The Yooper Event 2021 is returning to Newberry, MI. July 30 - 31, 2021.
Rooms won't last long, you can book now:

Evening Star Motel
 Newberry, MI
906 293-8342

Say "GiG Up North" July 30 – 31, 2021. Rooms range from $62 to $84 depending.

We have also reserved the other Motel on the same property,  same PH #, same owner.

There was a full house at Ground Zero last year, in spite of government sanctions. We spoke to the Motel owners, and there are only a few rooms remaining for our 2021 event. LuLu has a list of folks that asked for her to book a room, and she did. It might be a good idea to call the Motel and confirm your confirmations.

When these rooms fill up, there are other Motels in this small town, so come join us.

There are rumors of food availability, made on-site at Ground Zero again.  cooldude

Looking forward to more Summer riding in Michigan's Upper Peninsula!

CHEERS,

GiG & LuLu

We have reserved a room again this year.  Sure hope we are able to make it.  Last year we had to cancel.  Great riding up there.  We are looking forward to visiting the UP again.  Thanks for continuing this ride.

Do not think I can swing by this year, but if you do it next year I will likely make it for a spell
while on a cross country ride to visit my son in Seattle,

There are a whole bunch of roads I want to experience  and the big plan is to
take a month off when I turn 66 in 2022, including 2 across the top of this country and maybe even some
more provinces in Canada

976 miles,  can not do that in 1 day anymore, need 2   Cool

Dan:  We missed you guys last year, sure hope you do make this year, will be good to see ya! You guys did it right in 2019, allowing yourself extra time to explore the UP. That is something I encourage everyone to do, spend time in the U.P. We will be making a long weekend of it, and stay as long as we can. Looking forward!

I had a great time at both Yooper events, and will be there this year.  I have a suggestion though for the food.  Instead of making up all the breakfast burritos ahead of time, just put out the fixin's and let everyone make their own.  This not only reduces the work load on the preparer (Lulu, Jig's sister), but the tortillas would not get soggy from being wrapped up and stored.  This is in no way intended as a complaint or criticism, Lulu did a great job last year, and spent way too much time preparing, and I'm grateful for that.  BTW Lulu, I volunteer to help in any way I can, just let me know what you need.  I assume you'd like me to make some beans again?

Sinkhead:

Aren't you BANNED from the U.P.?

Your astute observations regarding food handling have been previously addressed by the Executive Planning Committee and the new approved meal plan is to alleviate the labor on the OCD cook by having all the meals (not just breakfast) self serve. Things like make your own Sloppy Joes, Tacos and Burritos.
Thanks for volunteering, I will forward that to the Executive Planning Committee for approvals. Of course, bring your famous magic beans!

Yuri:

Based on my highly un-scientific poll, it looks like you's guys are in the lead for the "Longest Travelled to Attend" Award, currently in possession of Trout Dude (LA). Of course, its way early in the competition, we may have riders from other countries (hey, its possible...).
Please keep detailed documentation of all miles ridden to Newberry, and see if you can pry the award away from Dennis.

Brian, you ought to know Petra, she documents everything, it in her nature.
When I said she was planning and planning and re-planning, I was not kidding, since back in August when we last spoke and we said we were planning to attend she has been all over the maps and Google, and whatever other device she could find.
This will be one for the books for us, have lots of sights planned along the way....... But most of all we are looking forward to seeing the two of you.
BTW we have another member of our group out here, Scott who is planning to ride with us.
Cant wait to see you two......
Petra is chomping at the bit to go.......according to her its 191 days before departure, but she's not counting  Grin
I am sure Dennis will surrender the award, if not I'll fill him full of Turpentine and pry it away from him...  Evil

Gig,

Well, I dunno... My life has some competing prospects, possibilities, and potentially negative aspects that might get in the way... Everybody does, of course, but I happen to have a couple more 'wild cards' in the deck than I did just a year ago... so... I truly do want to make it again, though, as your gathering is a sure-fire highlight for any riding season! I'm going to dilly-dally a bit before committing or even make reservations... I would hate to miss this one, but... You and LuLu will put on a good show, feed everybody very well, and generously share your special corner of the universe...

P.S. I'd also really hate to miss out on sipping a few Dr. Peppers with Josh, too... one of the huge additional benefits for this thirsty rider!!!

Bruce:

The way you roll, summertime in Michigan would seem like an actual - plan. It would be great if you are up to it this year, I fully understand and anticipated your response, considering all your wild cards.
This event is evolving into its own type of aura, evident by the (former) strangers that are willing to change their itinerary, just to stay longer to come and hang out with us and drink DR Pepper, and you are a big part of that.
You lend a special aura of your own, and are a big part of any ride that you attend. Hope you are able to make it, if at all possible, we won't be too surprised to see ya.

Safe winds my southern friend, you are never far from our thoughts.

Gig--I neglected to say there would be two of us.  Justin is coming again this year.

We had a great ride up last year, taking the Western Route.  That is 22 up through Northport then back down to Traverse City.  We did hit a lot traffic in TC and construction delays, but what a great ride.  How could anyone imagine a town named Petoskey could be so beautiful?  We hit the Bridge at the wrong time also.  Took a good 40 minutes to cross.

This year I am thinking 75 (23 around Detroit) up to Bay City then 13 to 23 up the East side of Michigan.  Should be some nice views of Lake Huron.  All the boring riding will be on day 1.  I don't have definite plans yet but anyone from down this way that wants to, is welcome to join.  PM me if interested.

Road home last year in the rain with Big Rick and his Harley buddy on 127.  Probably do that again this year.  Leave a 6, home around 3.

This sounds like it would be a great event to go to, and I'd love to spend more time exploring that area. Had a brief taste on my way back from Morgantown Inzane several years ago. I think there's a good chance that the border may not be open yet by July though. What are the other motels in the area if one wanted to reserve one, in case things open up later in the Spring and the opportunity to go presents itself?
