Gently pry against the housing and twist the grip back and forth or remove the housing and pry the grip open and shoot WD40 in it and repeat.

If you can't use compressed air, the best method is to slide an icepick under and sister up the long skinny nozzle of a solvent (Gummout carb cleaner) next to the icepick and spray.  Do it several times, and it should come right off.  If you don't need to save it, cut it off.
