Took a ride down to WV to see this infamous Mothman thingy that I'd ever heard of, and Kali also wanted to tag another state on her "States Ridden In" map. She technically did ride in WV. For about 1/2 a mile, until the front wheel found a DEEP rut while changing lanes, straightened the wheel up violently, flung her off the bike and the bike over on its' side. (Disclaimer before the pics - she broke her sacrum, is otherwise okay, and thanks to Rams and Psycho her and my Standard are back to the hotel.) Moments before the accident.... We were having such a lovely ride. And at the scene... This was the road rash she got from inside an armor plated mesh jacket. So glad the Mommy insists she always wear that jacket! As I said earlier, Psycho and Rams were kind enough to bring their truck and trailer, loaded my Standard up and Kali laid across the back seat and brought them both back to the hotel. Kali's sitting up in bed texting with her friends. I got her her Rx pain meds and other meds and some beer for daddy now that this day is handled. Have a few possibilities (THANK YOU for all who have offered! Still trying to figure out what will be best...) to getting her and the Standard home. The Standard does have some issues, a mirror destroyed, my Kurakyn ISO pegs are smashed off on both sides, the left grip snapped in hald. It starts and runs, I rode it across the hotel parking lot but it's very hesitant to start, the clutch is odd (Release pressure at ALL and it grips) and there was a "kshhhlshhhkshhhh" rubing sound from the back end I haven't been able to figure out yet, but that can come later. The important part is Kali...

HATE reading this! Sounds like the right good people were nearby to help, and she's on the mend. I know riders say it often, but this sure coulda been worse -- and I'm sure glad it wasn't.

Serk - hope this won't mess up her Army plans !!
Wishing her the best for a quick, complete recovery.
She might want to talk to her recruiter when you get back to Texas (or maybe sooner, if she is up to it ?). She doesn't want to get into trouble for missing her reporting date when it can be avoided.
How is she going to get home ? Or is that to be worked out yet ?

After speaking with you tonight and seeing the other pics on your phone I think Kali will make a good recovery. The bike is just a thing. Kali is irreplacable
Do not know if they did a concussion protocol as you mentioned she did pass out in the hospital
Keep an eye on her overnight

Wow total bummer. Hope she heals fast both physically & mentally. Hopefully can be analytic and make the experience a positive learning one. Is renting a truck to haul the bikes and yourselves back home in the works? That's how we handled it when I broke my leg on the wing in '02, near Green Bay. Found out later, a friend who was an airline pilot and in our club said she could have flown out and rode it back, if she knew. The bike was OK it was just my leg out of commission.

glad she will come out fairly unscathed and hope her bones heal quickly before the military comes along. Must have been one heck of a hole in the road to jolt the wheel like that and loose control. Like you said she was changing lanes for if she hit it head on probably would have controlled it better, maybe? Reminds me of the time when kid age 17 a few years ago coming home from seeing his then girlfriend in nearby town texting him when he going to get home was at her parents hanging out since heard sleet hitting window of my house looked bad out. I was very worried when he called ME NOT MOM since Mom was in bed of course after 11 p.m. and my cell phone rang him telling me he ran off the road and down an embankment unable to back out was VERY icy and slippery out sleet/snow coming down in winter. I darn near lost it with my 4wd truck getting out there when a few deer crossed my road around midnight VERY slippery. He took the curvy backroad from their house vs. sticking to the main roads. He should have known better even snow tires not save him going around that corner with any speed sliding right off. He missed a tree but was stuck pretty darn bad bottoming out the car, snow piled up lifting car up on top of snow and plastic grill cracked some hitting a snowbank off the road, guessing going off road 20 mph or so around a corner. He was fine but my heart sank when he 1st told me he went offroad and is stuck. He was darn close from going all the way down in only had 50ft tow rope with me luckily the snowbank stopped him dead in his tracks vs. going more downhill off road thru the woods/brush. Since he was fine, I handed him a shovel and pair of gloves and told him to shovel the snow from under the car while I stood there for the most part taking 1 hour was buried. Put tow rope on truck and his rear axle and pulled out car easy enough once unburied. Wife drove 4wd truck home with kid while I drove his car to make sure was driveable taking it VERY slowly all the way home on backroads. The other time with my sonata car he drove OFF the road coming home at night from his other girlfriend age 16 or 17 of course in deer country avoided the deer but ripped off lower rocker panel bottomed out entire car dirt buried above plastic skid plate went WAY down into a ditch and power slid thru it and seeing his tire marks missing a telephone pole at say 45 mph by mere feet was scary. Morale of story, keep Kali as long as you can safe from boyfriends, they be trouble - LOL

I think there may some degree of leg pulling on that one, unless he means they picked her up at the hospital.

Thank you everyone for the well wishes, prayers, positive energy, whatevers.... It's appreciated, sincerely! While I went on the Joe Boyd ride/train ride (She was adamant that I go) towards the end the little whipper snapper (That was not the term I used in my head) sent me this pic from the parking lot of the hotel: Few other updates: Kali was taken to the hospital in an ambulance (Her first (And hopefully last) ambulance ride, my first as well (As a passenger). Psycho and Rams drove to the hospital, Kali had a delay being released (She thought she was ready, but not quiteeeeee yet) so we went and picked up the bikes, came back to the hospital and they took her and my Standard back to the hotel while I rode my Interstate back to the hotel once she was discharged. So many wonderful things have occurred around this accident. One of the first Gryphon and his wife were riding to see the Mothman, saw the Valks on the side of the road and after asking around town about a motorcycle accident decided to head to the nearest ER and see what they could do. It seemed a small gesture, but having someone from our group surprise me in the ER was just the morale boost I needed while in a very bad place emotionally. Thanks! Also, thank you to all the generous offers of assisting Kali and I get her and my Standard home, I've got an old non-motorcycle buddy who I helped with some things in the past and he's been begging to pay me back for years. When he saw the Facebook post about the accident he told me he's on his way. I can say no, but he's coming anyway, from south of Dallas (Waco) to Athens with his pickup and trailer that should be large enough to haul both Valks and a backseat of his truck converted to a bed for Kali to relax in. Sorry to get so wordy, off to go see about some pies and such and see where Kali scampered off to... Will update as I can.

Thanks for the update. All in all, it's not nearly as bad as it could have been. But bad enough. You didn't tell us how she is doing, other than the upbeat selfie. I would think sitting would be ... unfun. How's mom doing? (My default would be to not tell her till I/we got home.) It's really nice to have friends.

I would think sitting would be ... unfun. How's mom doing? (My default would be to not tell her till I/we got home.) It's really nice to have friends. She's lowered the wheelchair down the stairs herself so she could roll around and be around people. She's totally doing great right now for only being a little over 24 hours after the accident. Kali was feeling well enough to help make the pies with Lori... Also my buddy that's driving here to help us really likes Jack Daniels so I rode over to get some, and just for S&G I did it on the standard... Looks to be mechanically sound as far as I can tell at this point. Lots of little things (Mirror, foot pegs, highway pegs, Mick-o pegs, windshield cracked etc) but from a mechanical level seems to be fine. Funny story about telling the mommy. Being an analytical guy, I don't think I'd wanna know at all until there was something to know, so I was hesitant to call her immediately. There was a very nice lady that was coming the other direction, saw the accident, and stopped to help. She was a nurse's assistant. Once 911 was en route, I asked her "Ma'am, are you a mother?" "Yes....." "If that was your daughter, would you want to know immediately or only after more details were known?" ...."Call your *()@# wife RIGHT NOW." So yes... Tarynn knows... And is mostly okay. One of her skydiving friends said "See why we skydive? Jumping out of airplanes is a LOT safer than jumping off of motorcycles!"

Please pass on best wishes for a full and speedy recovery to Kali from our BC/NW Valhalla group... we all enjoyed meeting her and your family at Billings Inzane when you joined us at our fire that night.

Glad to hear she's okay and that (all things considered) it was somewhat minor. On our way home out 50E, we saw one that didn't look so minor. Bike vs loaded semi flat bed is never going to go in favor of the rider.
