I know there's a specific alignment/positioning of the plates in the center section when reassembling them. However, I've not found any alignment requirements or specific postioning of the clutch package when reinserting into the outer basket. Am I correct on that?

John there is a specific alignment of the steels and frictions for sure plus you know about the thicker one I am sure.
Once aligned they need to be securely clamped together so that they do not move and then the circlip and washer has to be installed while the clutch assembly stays clamped.
I saw a great video of a fellow using two bolts and a flat piece of steel or aluminum to do the clamping and a harley oil filter removal cup with a cut out in the side that was used to engage and insert the circlip while the whole assembly was clamped and compressed in a simple bench vise.
Of course thee is a YouTube video showing how to do this and it looked pretty straight forward.

Pappy, I got that part OK, I'm talking about when the clutch stack is assembled and you go to insert it into the outer basket. Is there a specific orientation, if there is I haven't found it.

John - I've never noticed, just put them in, never had a problem. But I check the basket for wear and any burrs first. SteveB

My thoughts also Steve, I've checked the basket and it's in good shape. Now just waiting for a new torque wrench for those special lock nuts and it will all go back together and ready for the swap later this fall. I am going to look at using some of the speed control wiring from a Wing, don't know if I can make it work but will at least try.
