I talked to Theresa tonight.  Jig was transferred today to the UofM Health Center in Chelsea, MI.  She said if anyone wants to send cards or visit you are more than welcome.  I may ride out to see him tomorrow.  Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers, it's good that he is closer to home.  It will make things a lot easier on Theresa.

So I went to visit Gig in Chelsea, MI.  He was transferred there yesterday.  It was the first time we spoke face to face since the accident.  The facility he is at is and in-patient rehab facility.  He is very weak and unable to stand on his own.  The first thing he said to me was, "I have two broken legs.", (not true, he has one), He repeated this several times and I told him he only had one broken leg.  So it was a major undertaking to get him out of bed when he said he had to use the bathroom.  It took me and three female nurses to get him into a potty chair and roll him over a toilet.  He took a bigboy poop (the term I asked all the nurses to use from now on), and they were able to get him back in bed.

Normally Jig has to shell out big money to get this kind of attention from 3 women.

He still has a section of his skull removed, so he has to wear his helmet anytime he is out of bed.

I asked if they allow dogs to visit and they said yes, in fact they encourage it, so I let Theresa know that she can bring Griswold in to visit dad.

Jig is doing remarkably well for what he has been through.  He remembers most things, not so much short term, but his sense of humor is intact and he has been joking with the nurses.  I told them to mess with him as much as possible, as he would be messing with them.  They assured me they will give him the works.

He can talk on the phone and can have visitors,  he starts OT and PT tomorrow, so late afternoon/evening is probably best if you want to visit.  Here is the hospital info and he is in room 2104.

Cards and photos can be sent to:

Brian Leggieri
Room 2118
Chelsea Hospital
775 South Main Street
Chelsea, MI 48118

(734) 593-6118

The nurses said they would like to have pictures in the room to help spark his memory, so if you can include photos with your cards, that would be great.  He seems to be in good hands and the ladies that are caring for him are great.  Things are looking much better than I expected them to at this point, so I'm very optimistic.

Just called Gig, he was pretty out of it but still knew who I was, which was a good thing.
It was really great to hear his voice. He’s got a long road ahead of him but I know he will make it.
Keep him and Theresa in your thoughts. He’s feeling the love.

Mike (Aquaman), Gary (Romeo) and I went to visit Jig yesterday.  He kept trying to get out of bed, where he could barely move last Saturday.  He is pretty sharp, but has some confusion regarding reality.  He continues to think he has 2 broken legs, he said he had a rental car in the parking lot, and he thinks the doctors said he could go home.  He kept asking me to call Theresa, and she could not answer her phone because she was at work.  He was angry with her for not being there with him, and when I told him she had to work, he kept saying she did not.  He wants out of the hospital, he thinks they are turning him into a zombie.  He gets daily therapy, and I can already see he is making progress, but has a long way to go before he goes home.

So my son Eric and his GSD Betsy and i went to visit Jig yesterday.  He was glad to have visitors, and would welcome more visitors, if you are so inclined.  He is doing very well, but has some confusion about what happened.  He claims that he was run over by a police officer, and saw a video of it.  I told him what really happened, but he argued with me about it.  He is anxious to get out of the hospital, and claims they are only keeping him there to fleece his insurance company for more money.  I told him he still has a piece of his skull in Columbus and needs to go back there to have it replaced.  His doctor said he may be discharged to The hospital in Columbus for that procedure Aug 1st.  He still has the feeding tube in, that is another procedure he will need to remove it.  He is giving Theresa a hard time about her not taking him home, and I told him he isn't ready to go home yet.

If you can, go visit him, late afternoon and evenings, are best as he has therapy until about 3:00 everyday.  His room is 2118 and his phone number is (734) 593-6118.

Sounds like a post brain injury/concussion with some resulting mental confusion (and anger/argumentativeness which often goes with it).

Without trying to be a nosy Ned (only concern), I am wondering if they have put him on any kind of psychotropic med(s) for that.  Hippa probably prevents them from telling you anything, but if you bring it up as a noticed symptom and ask if they are providing any treatment for it, they may tell you (or someone).

I'd want to research any meds like that, if given.

Thanks for all of the updates Joe!   Been praying for Gig since we heard about him going down.  Sounds like the worst is behind him,  but a very long road ahead.  I still haven't heard if there is a fund set up for him.  Us Southerners want to be able to help too.
Just let us know when something is ready.
EDIT!!!!!
I found the other thread.  Thanks Oss!

Thanks again,

I got to meet Gig over the weekend, what a awesome dude. He seems to be doing very well considering all he has been thru. Honestly I didn't expect him to look that good. I got to talk to him for a while- to tell the truth I don't know how long. We traded stories(he has some good ones) . He is going back to Columbus this week as he said, to put his skull back together. It's possible we meet at Athens but neither of us could remember for sure - he has an excuse I don't except old brain symptom , but when he saw my Inzane t-shirt he smiled at the conversations were constant as long as I was there. What a gracious guy, I look forward to our next encounter.

I talked to Jig and Lulu last night.  He is out of the hospital in Chelsea and they are in Delaware, Oh on their way to Columbus.  They are staying at the same motel Gig and I stayed at when we went to Wise. Jig will have his skull put back together on Friday,  probably a week in the hospital after the surgery.  He said he is able to walk with a walker, I didn't ask if they had removed his feeding tube yet, but they were having dinner at the Mexican restaurant next to the motel, so I assume he can eat regular food, which has to be awesome after the liquid/puraide diet he's been on.  It looks like the worst is behind him, but still a long way back to normal.

Got to visit Gig and Lulu yesterday.  He is doing great and looking forward to the Fall Color Ride, although they will be driving the van/car to the event.  He just went thru the Humpty Dumpty procedure where the Kings men put him back together--actually just his head.  He is getting a bone graft this week then it is off to recuperation.  He was in good spirits, misses his dog and his house, both of which he will soon be reunited.  Theresa is quite a gal.  What an ordeal for her-- all which she seems to be handling with grace and optimism.

He and Theresa also told me how much the visit by Mark(?) 3Fan4Life and his wife on Saturday meant to them and how much she enjoyed going to dinner.  Good on you Mark, a long drive to make a friend's day a bit better.
