Went to three different stores, Walmart and Menards being two of them. Everything seems to now come with "energy conserving" crap in it so looking for suggestions. If I could find some Amsoil in 10w30 or 40 in either all syn or a mix I'd take it regardless of price. Two different auto parts shops carry it but not in the weight and without the junk in it. Not sure just where to try next. I have my '98 Tourer listed on the Facebook Valkyrie group and I'd like to at least give it an oil change before selling it. I've lost some of my maintenance records and the last oil change was one of the items lost so want to make certain that's done so it's fresh. Also considering flushing the hydraulics just to be certain. But my main gripe is finding the oil I want. I tried diesel once but seemed a bit noisy so went back to regular synthetic, that was quite a while ago and don't plan on repeating.

Walmart carries mobile 1 V-Twin oil. 10-40 and 20-50. They keep it with the boat stuff. I use the 20-50 works great

I thought Walmart also carried Rotella T6, which has the JASO rating.

I use Rotella T-6 from Wallyworld. But Pro Honda GN4 is synthetic 10W40 and designed for motor cycles.

oils that meet,
Ford Material Engineering Specification WSS-M2C171-F1  are oils to use for our GL1500 engines
https://www.fcsdchemicalsandlubricants.com/additionalinfo/Ford%20Motor%20Company%20CK-4%20FA-4%20Position%20Statement.pdf

JASO spec'd motorcycle oil are basically the same specs as heavy-duty diesel oil standards.
JASO does not test oils, manufactures pay a fee to JASO and state their oil meets the specs.
https://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,65911.0.html

New Diesel Oil spec CK-4 not good for motorcycles if also meets SN and SM.
https://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,96825.0.html

This new spec requires below 1000ppm of phosphorus and zinc if the oil also is to meet SN and SM gasoline engine specs. Levels this low will wipe out the cams and rocker arms. Ford has already come against this spec citing excessive wear in powerstroke engines.
http://fordauthority.com/2017/03/ford-launches-new-oil-spec-for-6-7l-power-stroke-diesel/
So far Motorcraft oils have a new Ford specific spec which has higher levels, and early testing shows rotella is maintaining the higher levels and is rated CK-4 but not SN and SM.
All Delos are below the 1000ppm level.
Present CJ-4 spec oils which are above 1000ppm are being phased out. So stock up.
So make sure to check your oil of choice in regards to this new spec.

This site does virgin oil analysis of oils and is starting to post the CK-4 oils.

I've been using T6 for  over 20 yrs.. And  the  ST6607 filter..
TheBeast has   200K+ on the  clock..The Black has 160K+
I  have  been happy   ...

I get  the  filter  and  oil at Wallyworld..
But sometimes I get my Oil at  Rural King

Found what I need at Walmart, seems they have motorcycle oil on a separate shelf and aisle from the automotive stuff. Who'da thunk?

problem with today's motorcycle oils that meet JASO rating also have lower zinc and phosphorus to protect the catalytic converters new cycles have. so Z and P levels are lower than the GL1500 engine was designed to have in '88.

Here's another vote for Mobil1 15-50-  about $25 for 5 qts at Walmart.
It lasts a long time in an underworked engine, like in the Valk.  I got over 20,000 miles on the oil now in my bike, I'm actually a little ashamed to say, but it still has good body or viscosity(not runny), and it's not very loaded up with black crud either...

I use Mobil 1 too. As stated their motorcycle version. It is good oil. Over 20,000 miles on the same oil on a Valkyrie is neglect and abuse. Sorry, no other way to put it. I say I change it every ten grand but I never actually make it. Somewhere between 8 and 9.

nice, great use of a synthetic oil.  Do u drain the filter and top off oil level at every 5k miles interval?  top tier filters are good for 15k miles.  have u done a used oil analysis?

    Oh, sure...
Last time I adjusted the valves (50,000 miles ago) they weren't even out of spec.   So nothing's wearing out too fast.
The bike'll probably outlive me..!  And probably a lot of us.

Here's how that oil looks, after 23k...  (Oh, the abuse, I know)
Looks good, probably could have gone longer, but I like to keep it on the safe side...  Kind of looks like dark honey...

Depending on availability, In the Valks I use Honda Full Synthetic, Golden Spectro or Mobil 1 Full Synthetic if I'm planning on putting a lot of miles on between changes (say, during a trip). For limited summer riding either Honda HP4 Semi Synthetic or their GN4 (the latter gets changed every fall at lay-up).

Both of my Connies are fed a steady diet of Amsoil 10w-40 full synthetic.

Tried many different oils in each before settling on the above G-S offers the smoothest shifts in my F6s and Amsoil, likewise with my C14s.

YMMV. Mine sucks because I can't keep my right wrist outta it... police

Waaaaaay long long ago, there was a moto rag... Sport Rider....
Did a extensive testing and analysis of various qualities, even a gear shear type testing.
Amsoil 10w40 motorcycle and Mobil1 4T 10w40 were 1 and 2....
Been running the Mobil 4T ever since....

I used the Amsoil 10-40 motorcycle synthetic years ago, and it was the quietest engine and gearbox I ever had (by far).

But at $16 a quart (today), I went with other good synthetic.

That was/is my beef with Amsoil... $$$$$, always been damn expensive. I would use it otherwise..

be careful, the new JASO spec lowered the anti-wear additives the GL1500 engine was designed to have.

I was an Amsoil dealer for 10 yrs back in the '90s into early '00s
back then they didn't have their 10w40 oil in a motorcycle labeled bottle, after they did their cycle oil sales took off. so for yrs their 10w40 and 20w50 oils where also their motorcycle oils, every bottle was labeled as such
so that being said this is basically the same oil, 50 cents cheaper per bottle.
https://www.amsoil.com/p/amsoil-premium-protection-10w-40-100-synthetic-motor-oil-amo/

their 15w40 diesel oil is still and always has been the very best deal and excellent oil to use.

While AMSOIL will never be the least expensive oil in a group, it can be had at a lower cost by signing up as a Preferred Customer. It isn't for everyone, but if it works for you, it gets you about 25% off as well as other perks. As I said, it doesn't work for everyone, but it is very beneficial for some.  https://www.amsoil.com/offers/pc/?zo=5889580
