I've had a 97 Std since 97 but will be picking up an IS next week and would like some input on any specific needs for the conversion.

Known:
Will need a brake/tail light assy (ordered)

Unknown:
How to do radio antenna hook-up (no CB to deal with) without the trunk bracket
Any functional shorter antenna options?

What else am I missing or will I need? Since I don't have it in front of me I can only guess.

Thanks, as always, your feedback is much appreciated.

Go to Big BFs web site and look at how to cut the rails for your trunk.
Also see if he still has the hookup and move for you ant.

Hey Gary,

I converted big_d's 99 IS over this winter.  The job wasn't too bad but you will want to get a couple of parts from a Standard/Tourer to make it easier.

First...you will need a taillight with the gasket.  The taillight is 33701-MZ0-671.  The gasket is 80122-MZ0-000.

Second...you will need the cord sets for the rear fender.  Get both cord sets.  The plugs at the fender break are different for the IS and the Standard/Tourer.  You will have to splice in the brake lights into the bike because the IS has a connector plug so you can take the trunk off when you want.  If you plan on going back and forth, you will want that ability.

The front section harness is 32102-MZ0-000.  The rear section is 32103-MZ0-000.

Other than that...cut the rails for easier installation and you are good to go.

Thanks to all for the input and good links.

I fly out tomorrow night to pick her up and drive her back after a stop off at my daughters place in Vegas.

I now have the rear tail/brakelight assy and gasket and what looks to be the rear section wiring harness. I guess I'll still need the front section.

Very much appreciated, thanks again!!!  cooldude

I can't get over you rlast post, I just drove out of Vegas with my 99' IS I bought in Dec and the dealer held till the weather improved. Drove out Apr 23/24 to vancouver BC. I didn't want to leave on the 22 since there was heavy rain. Instead I hit rain/snow in a couple of passes in WA.

I also bought a fender brake light, and now need to figur out what I want to do, make the trunk removeable, or just add the extra light for safety.

As far as the antenna,

I over drilled one of the holes and mounthed mine on the back right truck mounting bolt...just keeps people from banging into it, while checking out my valk.

I used a short rubber  antenna from autozone  and mounted it low between the bags and rear fender almost invisible and works great.
