Wanted to let everyone know that I am doing OK other than being pretty sore.  I went to the emergency room in Indio, California and they cleaned and treated my abrasions and sent me on my way.  I am holed up in a motel in Palm Desert, Ca right now.  I got abrasions on both legs, both wrists and one elbow.  I was very lucky to get by with so little injuries.

I was on I-10 westbound about 35 miles east of Indio, Ca and was running right at 70 mph in the right lane.  An older couple passed on the left but he dozed off and hit the guardrail right after he passed me and spun right in my path.  I was able to slow down to about 40 -45 mph before hitting him.  The bike stopped dead in it's tracks and I was thrown off for a little tumbling act.  I was very aware of everything that was going on and did not go to the hospital in the ambulance.  They were very comfortable in letting me stay around until the CHP finished the accident and then the CHP officer took me to a motel in Palm Desert, Ca and helped me check in and take my stuff to the room.  He then took me to the hospital to get my wounds cleaned and treated. He went out of his way to help me get all squared away.

After getting treated at the hospital I got a cab back to the motel.  I was able to help the tow driver load my bike and trailer on the wrecker.  Both the bike and camper are totalled.  The box came off of the frame of the camper from the impact.  I am including the pictures from the accident scene.

http://s1008.photobucket.com/albums/af201/clintsdivco/Motorcyle%20wreck%20in%20southern%20California/

I will probably stay here at the motel until Monday to rest up and get ahold of my insurance company.  I plan on renting a car to haul my stuff back home but plan on going on over to the LA area first to see my daughter and grandkids.

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers sent on the board, and hope to see you all soon.

Wow!  I'm saddened to see this and sorry for your misfortune, but it's a blessing you were able to be in the pictures standing around looking over the situation.  It's stating the obvious, but it could have been much worse for you.    Take your time healing up....  you can get to replacing the lost bike and your property another day.

Clint,

You are one lucky dude!  I've caged through that area several times.  I'm glad your ok and heal fast.  One question, do you think you could have avoided him if you weren't towing the trailer?  I've never towed with a motorcycle, just wondered how much effect you think it had in a situation like that.  That was a beautiful rig. I hope you find a replacement soon.

Sorry to hear but glad you made it with minor wounds. Judging by that hitch do you think it was the weight of the trailer, I believe them are heavy, that if you were empty could have avoided?

Clint,
We rode together for a day at IZ9 last year. I'm envious of miles that you were logging on your Valk during retirement. Sorry that you were involved in this terrible accident and I'm very relieved that you are still alive.

Hope you heal quickly, find a low-mile replacement Dragon and resume your most excellent cruizin retirement!

Joe that same thought crossed my mind as well that trailer he was draggin' just look way to heavy to be pulling with a motorcycle. Several weeks ago when Clint showed pictures of the trailer I ask him about the weight  Undecided   After a crash everyone has a opinion about how it could be avoided sometimes nothing can be done but if he had time to slow 30 plus mph with all that weight behind him you gotta wonder " what if he was'nt draggin' the trailer "  Undecided

Clint:
If you had to have an accident in California, you picked the right area.

The boys/girls there are allowed more room to assist people at a time like this.

The head honcho there had an officer help his mother years ago and that was one of the 1st policies he put in place when he got assigned to the area.   Good man.

Now, you had a very big guardian angel covering for you today.    Glad to hear that.    Those road rashes are going to hurt till they heal, so just be patient.   Did the hospital give you a prescription for some salve to put on them?   If not go to a Pharmacy and ask for something to keep them damp as they heal.

Was that a Time-Out trailer?    That thing took a hell of a shot.    I'd say the front edge of it took out the rear wheel.

If ya need some help gettin back here, let me know and I'll find a way to carry my O2 and help ya............

I really don't feel like I could have avoided the accident even without the trailer.  I may have scrubbed of a few more miles per hour which may have lessened the impact a bit but it was right in front of me and not much distance at all.

I did put electric brakes on the trailer before going on this trip and had readjusted the controller in the morning before leaving out of Phoenix.  There is no doubt in my mind that the trailer brakes were working at the time of the accident.  The trailer apparently tracked just fine during the stop but when I got thrown from the bike and let go of the brakes, the trailer inertia took over again, especially when the bike came to the abrupt stop.

I am sore today, but not as bad as I had expected.  I just got back from walking about 3 to 4 blocks to get something to eat and some firstaid supplies to treat my abrasions.

Thank all of your for your thoughts, concerns, and prayers.

Wow..Clint, I'm so glad to hear your accident wasn't any worse. Bikes can be replaced. Body parts are tougher to get. There are a lot of parallels between you describing what happened to you and myself 3 yrs ago. Similar damage to the bikes also. It's sickening to think about bikes and accidents that aren't even our fault. I hope you heal fast and can find another bike.

So glad to see you walked away from that one.  Just taking a quick look at this board over the past couple months, you can see how lucky/blessed you are to have survived with minor injuries.

You actually will soon have some information that will prove valuable to the members of this site.

It looked like in one of the pictures that you are running a CT (Goodyear TT, maybe?).  One of the better debates I have heard against going Darkside is that insurance companies will not pay out in case of an accident.  For sake of this eternal argument, will you please comment in due time regarding how your insurance company handles this claim?

Not trying to be an a-hole and downplay the most important thing, which is your health.  But for those of us who have taken this point about insurance companies vs. car tires to heart, it would be nice to have some more concrete data based on actual experience instead of speculation.

Best wishes for a fast and complete recovery.

Anyone in this country (US of A) who tells you your insurance company won't pay because of the tire you might have on your bike is blowing smoke up your skirt.

Treat that information accoringly.

I rented a car today in Palm Springs, Ca and got my personal belongings out of the bike and trailer.  Didn't get  anything off of the bike. (Drats).

I made it to Camp Verde, Az tonight, just south of Prescot.  Should make it back home by Wed. night or Thursday morning.

I originally planned on it but the 1600 mile distance between home and where the bike is is going to make it impractical.
