Big Al and I just got back from the hospital. We walked into the CCU waiting room that only had two lady's sitting in it and ask if either was there for Amanda . This young girl said she was her best friend but they would'nt tell her anything. While we was talking to her Amanda's father called me and said they took her off the breathing machine this morning but had to hook her back up within minutes. The doctor's took her off again this evening and she is breathing on her own now. I ask him if he could make arrangements so her friend Kelsey could see her he said he would. She took my phone with him on the line and went to the nursing station and got it arranged so she could see her. They only let her look in on her for a minute but told us that Amanda opened her eyes and took her hand . She is not out of the woods by any stretch of the imagination however it is looking better now. Al and I left that hospital feeling much better than when we arrived.I saw in the other thread about sending her a card if you'd like to send a " Thinking Of You " card I think that would be great...PM me and I can give you the address.....Thanks for all the comments , thoughts and prayers on the other post.

Thanks for the update Joe.  As you have experienced, the power of prayer is very strong.

Glad to hear that they took her off of the breathing machine.

Joe, What a great Christmas gift! Even though Amanda has a serious battle in front of her, her friends and family can breathe a sigh of relief that she is breathing on her own and responding to others.  More prayers are needed and I'm sure more are steadily pouring in from all our brothers as Amanda continues her struggle for life.  Well done my friends, very well done!

Joe would have it no other way, he felt he had to be there.

Now I know why.

Could not have worked out better.

Kelsey was so wonderful as she was just quietly sitting waiting on any news she could get about

her friend in CCU Waiting Area.

Joe was in a position to facilitate this happening and made sure it happened.

With Amanda's father's permssion.

Kelsey was allowed to see her friend!

News so far is encouraging.

Keep up the well wishes and communication of Devine Nature , it is a great day to pray.

Joe,

Tonight we opened christmass presents.  My daughter got a scarf.  It looked exactly like the one Amanda was wearing in that picture.  All I could think of is how she had a blanket over her legs, her eyes were closed, skin looked ashen.  I hope she pulls through with no ill effects.  I hope all ends well…..  Please keep us up to date.  It is greatly appreciated.

Al.

Is there a link to previous post, I don't remember this being brought up before?  Search for Amanda only showed this post.

Does this hospital have a e-mail system that allows posted comments to be printed and sent to patients?
I think this would be a better way to send her comments. Let the pros keep comments from her that may hurt rather than help.  I believe that there are some in the world that would say hurtfull things to her without any knowledge of what drove the poor girl to consider this course of action.  In case you haven't noticed, there are some real 'jackwagons' on the www.

As a new grandfather this year, this is a real heart tugger for me and I will keep Amanda in my prayers for a turnaround in her life.

P.S. Thank you Lord for sending Amanda some angels her way.

as I stated in the other thread. I would BET you a real card, paper not electronic would have more of an impact on her than a bunch of emails and ecards. because someone went thru the trouble to send one, that in itself means more than just the words inside...

Joe, when you're able to speak to Amanda, let her know she's been officially adopted by the VRCC.  Aside from her own loving family, she has a whole new family.

As far as cards go... perhaps we can send them to you, instead of her directly.  Then you can keep tabs on when it would be best to give them to her (if at all).  Also, maybe screen the cards for some concerns that someone else posted.

Just a thought.

Every single person that has sent me a PM through the VRCC asking for her address I have no doubt whatsoever they will only offer words of encouragement...I would trust you as well to do the same ....Send me a PM and I'll give you her Dad's address he'll make sure she get's them.

What a bittersweet story. You guys are awesome! Like others, I am glued to the screen waiting for (good) news.
Not if, but when, you get to speak with Amanda, be sure to let her know about the hundreds of people (if not thousands, by now, thanks to the net) who are rooting for her and her family. She "owes us" to recover.

by Tammie Byram Fowles, LISW, Ph.D -

I’m sorry that you’re hurting so desperately right now. I know how painful the seconds, and minutes, and days can be, how long the nights are. I understand how very hard hanging on is, and how much courage it takes.

I ask though that you hold on to one day at a time. Just one day, and slowly this despair will pass. The feelings you fear you’re trapped in will serve their purpose, and then fade away.

Hard to imagine isn’t it? Almost impossible to believe when every cell in your body seems to cry out in agony, desperately in need of comfort. When it feels like the only thing in the whole world that can touch your pain and banish it is beyond your grasp.

And after all this time, the assurance that you will heal has become an empty broken promise. Just let one tiny cell in your body continue to believe in the promise of healing. Just one. You can surrender every other cell to your despair.

Just that one little cell of faith that you can heal and be whole again is enough to keep you going, is enough to lead you through the darkness. Although it can’t banish your suffering, it can sustain you until the time comes for you to let your pain go. And the letting go can only occur in its own time, as much as we would like to push the pain away forever.

Hold on. Hold on to appreciate the beauty of the earth, to feel the songs of the birds in your heart, to learn and to teach, to laugh a genuine laugh, to dance on the beach, to rest peacefully, to experience contentment, to want to be no other place but in the here and now, to trust in yourself, and to trust your life.

Hold on because it’s worth the terrible waiting. Hold on because you are worthy. Hold on because the wisdom that will follow you out of this darkness will be a tremendous gift.
Hold on because you have so much love and joy waiting to be experienced.
Hold on because life is precious, even though it can bring terrible losses.
Hold on because there is so much that you can not imagine waiting ahead on your journey – a destiny that only you can fulfill.
Hold on although you’re exhausted and your grasp is shaky, and you want more than anything to let go sometimes.
Please hold on.

So much in life can be difficult, even impossible to understand. I know, I know. So many of us have cried in despair, why? Why? And still the answers and the comfort failed to show.

Survival can be a long and lonely road, in spite of all those who’ve stumbled down the path before you. And it can be a treacherous, tortuous journey - so easy to get lost, and yet impossible to avoid even one painful step.

And the light, the light at the end of the dark tunnel for so long cannot be seen, although eventually you’ll begin to feel it’s warmth as you move forward. And forward you must move in order to get through the hell of remembering, of despair, of rage, of grief. Keep looking forward, please.

Rest if you must, doubt your ability to survive the journey if you have to, but never let go of the guide ropes, although when you close your fingers around them, your hands feel empty, they are there. Please trust me, they are there.

When you’re exhausted, when all you have to count on is weakened, weary faith, hold on.

When you think you want to die, hold on until you recognize that it’s not death you seek, but for the pain to go away.

Hold on, because this darkness will surely fade away.

Hold on for one more day
