Ok guys, I have known for a while about the lack of availability for replacement Dyna 3000s. Unless that has changed without my knowledge, they dont make them anymore, nor do they service broken ones.
So, what options does a charger guy have if his goes down. Mine is doing fine for now, but I was looking toward the future.
Would an option be using a stock ECM and making a custom trigger wheel with it retarded? Or something similar?
Or are there other folks that can repair broken units. For instance a company called Ag-Tronix (if I remember correctly) rebuilds stuff for tractors where parts have become unavailable.
Or are there other ways to retard the timing that I am unaware of?
Jeff, im sure you have faced this question or perhaps problem before. Thoughts?

Don't know if this is of any value to you. But awhile back in discussion about superchargers we had a shoot from the hip idea. From my limited electronic knowledge I found basically two things trash electronics. It is spikes and heat. My first 3000 I had issues but restarting the bike resolved the problem. My second 3000 I took the boot off the module and used a bungee band to mount the unit and never had an issue. Thought maybe keeping the module cool may help. Just an assumption.

after talking to a dyna tech yrs ago, he said the same thing about heat. so I attached mine with an aluminum bar. He also told me that the internals are the same as they use in their 4 cyl race units. They are sensitive to which coil is used. Only stock coils or theirs with the higher ohm rating should be used. lower ohm rated coils increase the heat the ICM has to deal with. see pics of my install http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,18653.0.html

I may make such a modification to mine. Thanks for the idea. The fact still remains, that we have no replacements. What then? Somehow rape 4 cylinder race units or something?
If the internals are the same, I dont understand why they wouldn't offer repair work. Put a price tag on it at least.

I was told that the company has new owners and that the new owners don't really care like the orginals and only care about selling new products and not servicing past customers. Don't know how true all of that is. one of my plans on plate #7 is to to use a GL1500 ICM which has a built in vacuum advance feature. maybe could be modified to retard, but I don't know. see this recent thread for some info I have found out. http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,26345.0.html

A few months ago I got a unit from another vrcc member for my supercharged bike and lost the instructions. I called dynatech to get them and the rep I spoke to said that he had 3 new units. I made a deal with him on all 3. Email me if you are interested. These are new units. ALL THE DYNAS ARE SPOKEN FOR.
