How many U-joints, or perhaps more correctly yoke joints, are you holding?
The second and unpolled question is would you give up your spare or one of your spares for someone whose Valkyrie was actually down waiting on a replacement joint?

I have the spare in my saddlebag for myself or anyone else on the ride who needs it. Bought it before the GOTF after remembering Disco's u-joint failure last year while he was at Hotglue's. It's not new but appears in good condition.

I replaced my ujoint, driveshaft and pinion cup a year or so ago - the pinion end of my driveshaft was gnarly... so my spare ujoint is used, but I have one...
I'd give it up to someone who was SOL...

See thats the thing.....I have a spare, but it has 100,000 miles on it. I was holding onto it in case myself or someone on a ride had a catastrophic failure, this would definely get someone home, but If I didnt trust it before, why should I (or anyone else) trust it now. But, that being said, IF someone who was down wanted this, I would be willing to order a new one and give it up, I would just feel terrible if they got 20K miles down the road and it flew apart on deals gap or something. PS. New one is on order fron HDL...I suppose Im just waiting for the "sorry its on backorder" notification, but theres one used one available

I turn a wrench on mine from time to time but by no means do I qualify as a mechanic.
So this may be a Silly question:
Isn't there a "generic" U-Joint that can replace ours if the yoke hasn't been damaged?

I have a used, and worn(yet usable) U-Joint. If anyone needs it to get by until they get a new one, its free for the asking.

I had two new and one used (not good, play in bearings)
I used one of the new ones when I blew one and gave up the other new one to a dead machine.
So, none really...if I were to lose another I might try the "bad but hasn't exploded" one...but I don't think it's good for very long. The only reason I didn't throw it out is the new/backordered since last summer one hasn't come in yet.

I have two Valk's and two new u-joints one for each. I would be willing to share with someone who's bike is down for lack of a u-joint.

Pinwalled myself one about 2 years ago and am gonna start carrying it around from now on. I can't detect any play by fiddling with it by hand so I guess we'll see how it holds up when I change it out next tire change (if the existing one is iffy). I'll hold on to one or the other so someone won't have to be singin the blues on a ride somewhere!

I spoke to one of the guys at HDL oem parts store today. I have one yoke on back order and he said the latest word they have is that they should become available 5/19 but he said most likely June or July.

I had one...but a fellow rider near Buffalo required one so I sent him mine. That was just before the shortage came into play. By the time I went to order a new one...they were not to be had. But...I am not worried for my bikes...I have friends that have them... Joe

My spare has about 100k on it. If anyone needs it they're welcome to it. It feels tight and should run along time.I just would like it back when new one becomes available.

i have 2 new ones. gave my backup to shades a while back and am putting one of the new one in the fatass. broke on me today. sucks to be me sometimes....so I have one spare.
the u joint is the same u joint used in the big atv. cant remember which one.rubicon maybe? I know its in the foreman line just not which model. maybe some resaerch is called for. as long as the yoke is fine, the joint is servicable. something to consider.
and a gold wing shaft and yoke are different?

Got a good but used {100K} U-joint that I changed out from my '97. I have 3 Valks & I was keeping it as a spare but I would be willing to part with it for a Valker in need. I guess as soon as Honda gets their act together I'll order a new joint for a spare. With 3 Valks I always have a spare BIKE so I guess I'm covered.

Have one I replaced last year, still tight. 50,000 miles on it. And yes, would lend it to some one in need. I just kept it as it is a good spare. And just for grins, I carry a spare alternator ( rebuilt ) on long trips. Would have been handy at the last Inzane.

I have one, but there is play in the bearings (I think). I understand that it can be rebuilt by a drive line shop using the CRV u-joint. There is a thread here with the part number needed for the rebuild. It's free for the asking, but I can't guarantee that the play is in the bearings and not the cups in the yoke(s) which would render it useless. The u-joint only has 34k miles, so I'd be surprised if were the cups. LMK. Nothing lost if it won't work.

My point is there are a lot of joints out there unmounted, although judging from the responses to the poll I believe many are still reluctant to say so.
My other point is that if one finds himself with a broken U-joint, there are some who would be willing to bridge the gap until the joints are again readily available. I think the VRCC is a community good for that sort of thing. [ i]

The second and unpolled question is would you give up your spare or one of your spares for someone whose Valkyrie was actually down waiting on a replacement joint?
Not only would, but did. I've been promised a replacement, but with the 'backorder' I don't expect it anytime soon. I have a used one from a 'Wing that I'm sure I'll never use, but if someone needs it I'll be happy to give it up.
