I rode in today, first day back since before Christmas. I guess it was around 40 when I went out to the bike, I walked out to the bike with my heated gloves and wore my heated vest under my Joe Rocket. With all that on, it didn't seem cold enough to plug in, so I threw the gloves in the saddlebag, and put on my silk glove liners and my normal gloves (the same ones I wear in the summer). After a perfectly warm ride to work, I find myself sitting in my office with my heated vest on, looking for a place to plug it in . -Mike "stoopid computers and their associated air conditioners..."

I rode in today. 35 on the digital therm. when I left the house. Not too bad, because it was real dry. Pulled down the built-in visor in the 3/4 helmet to keep the forehead from freezing and rode relatively comfortable. Leaving work now and the outside temp is 52 here near the Houston Medical Center. Y'all ride safe, Hay Jimmyt

Yep, just as suspected, the ride home was really great. About 52 deg. F so I took the long way home. Rode the HOV lane from downtown all the way to 2351 in Friendswood. Rode that road thru Friendswood, by HotGlue's house (he had a huge fire going), and on home. About 25 miles is the long way home.... Hay Jimmyt

First ride to work of the New Year, it felt good. In the 20's both ways. Willow, the socks were too thick for my boots, but the over-boots from the same website were awesome. I used them on the way in & my feet thought they were in Key West. Rode home without them, feet were cold. Couple inches of snow forecast for here tomorrow. Maybe next week...

Got the first week of the year covered! Nice crisp 24 out this morning with a slight chance of snow in the air, they say.... I do have the parking area for bikes to myself, kinda like having my own personal parking spot! Sure, I get some strange looks from people walking through the building in my gear , they just don't understand and aren't smiling like I am. I know y'all from the north think that 24 is a summer day in winter. I was raised in the great white north (MN/WI) so my blood hasn't totaly thined out....... so I will contiue to ride the winter blues away

I have had a month off of work. I've mostly stayed around the house and did very little riding because I was trying to save gas and money. So, other than the new year day ride I haven't had much oppurtunity to get out on the bike.
Consequently that means my bike has not been cranked in a while.
This morning I woke up excited because I was getting to go back to work and getting to ride again. When I checked the thermometer in the kitchen it was 13 degrees. No problem, I've ridden that cold before. Before I left I checked again and it was 12 degrees. I've ridden on days that cold too, but the falling temp at 7:00 in the morning were a concern.
As I was layering up and leaving I realized that my good thick gloves were not in the closet where they should be. I must have left them in the saddle bag. I don't remember even wearing them the last few times I rode. So I trudged up to shed where I keep the bike carrying an arm load of books and other things that felt essential at the time.
When I got myself unloaded into the saddle bags I found my gloves. I laid them across the tank and plopped myself down on the cold seat.
The bike hadn't been cranked in a while so it was a little stubborn in the cold temperatures. But I finally got it cranked and while I let it warm up I put on my thick gloves. I must have put them away damp the last time I rode, because as my hands slid in they crunched as if they were frozen. It didn't take long to realize that that was not going to help warm my hands up. So I jerked them off and shoved them under my jacket to thaw out. I put on my second warmest pair (sheep lined leather with a short cuff). I thought it would do for a efw miles while my glvoes wamred up.
So after a proper warming period I took off.
Five miles down the road I went to squeeze the front brake and realized I could not feel the pointer finger on my right hand. I headed for the closest gas station to stop and warm up a moment.
I picked up a drink and some chips for later as a reason to stand inside for a few moments. They let me use the employee bathroom whichwas nice. When I could feel my hands I realized the heavier gloves had thawed and warmed up as well.
So with the proper gloves on I hopped back on the bike and headed to work again.
The high is going to be 40 degrees today I thin so riding should get better as the day goes on.
But at the moment I am at work a few minutes early, warming up again, feeling better, and getting ready to get back to work.
Commmute to ride, ride to commute.

Gotcha covered, Raymond, high 20's again on the way in, and about 10 degrees colder on the way home. Only place I felt the difference was on my legs, leather over dress pants was not quite enough. 2 for 2 in January! Who knew?

After the 12 degree ride in on Monday I thought I would wait a little later and let it warm up today before I headed to work.
It was 17 when I got up this morning and started puttering around the house at 6:00am. It was 16 when the sun came up. I still don't understand how the sun coming up can sometimes drop the temp. The sun should be warm. But it isn't always.
I left about 8:00 to get to work by 9:00. When it warms up I'll go in earlier. Luckily I have a later start to my day this spring.
It had rebounded to 17 before I left the house. That's nice. My gloves were considerably warmer this time around because I had had enough sense to bring them into the house.
I rode in slow, not because of the low temp, but because I was riding directly into the sun. This spring I'm working to the east of where I live. I'm beginning to think that this is going to be a persistent problem. Riding into the sun is not a great way to start the day. I felt squinty by the time I made it to work.
So here I am. Between hours and still trying to get the week started. I'm only working three days a week right now, and traveling around extensively to make that work. Found out on Monday they're cutting the mileage money from 55 cents a mile to 50. Oh well. We do what we have to do and are happy we still have a job.
Commute to ride, ride to commute.

38 on the ride in this morning in the dense fog. Less than 100 feet visibility. It was fun. Went 30-40 mph all the way, 17 miles. Wore my warm-up pants over the dress pants and only got a couple of spots of water on the left knee. It WAS colder than yesterday with all of the humididily in the air. Looking forward to the ride home! Hay Jimmyt

I get to not only ride to work but also ride from job to job today. Three locations and one little ole me running between them. This morning was frigid at 17 degrees. Now it is closer to 40 and feels warm by comparison. No gloves as I run around. Nice.

39 on the way home, a lovely ride. 5 days in a row. Giving me the stage can be dangerous (I've had a few requests, but I'm gonna sing anyway). I'll look and see what I have with few enough pixels to post. More snow next week, so she's going to the car wash & then the pods are coming off for rehab. I tried smiling but it scares the other drivers...

we had icy rain yesterday and the roads were slick this morning I took the chrysler, but I came home at 1 and took out the Valk for her first ride since the 29th of Dec. It was too nice - 48 degrees and bright sunshine- to go to work tho - guess you could say I went and played hookie So do I get an honorable mention on the ride to work? Still have lots of snow on the lawn and some ice on the driveway

I actually got to ride to work yesterday...first ride in several weeks. I didn't ride in the morning because I had to drop my Mom off at work but when I ran home for lunch, I traded the Jeep for the Valk. It was nice. But today, freezing drizzle...so it was back to the Jeep...plus I had to drop Mom off at work again. She needs a ride until her Blazer gets fixed. Dad had to run all new brake lines for her...they were all rusted and one cracked. Then he found out one of the ball joints was bad, so he figured while he had it on the jack stands, he may as well fix that too. He got the brake lines done, but still needs to finish the ball joint.
