Did someone open a can of tuna and leave it sitting around? Something is starting to smell fishy around here. (Hope I'm wrong, since a part of me wants to believe the story)  Undecided

i think this "alias" guy wants us all to pitch in and make him feel better.  maybe if we all send him a few dollars, that'll make it right......

many years ago i wanted a gold wing really bad (didn't know anything about the valkyrie then) and i came across an add on eBay which was about the same schpeel, "i live in france, the cycle's in virginia, send the cash to such and such western union in paris, and i'll send you the title, blah, blah blah.....  back then i was taking clases in Cisco switches and router programming, and i knew a little of tracking were your email ends up going, i did that with the guys email address, and it was going to some city in RUSSIA!!!  when i found that out, i started playing games with the guy, asking "did you get the money??" and stuff, saying that i had a confermation number for the transfer and why didn't he send the title???  sure it was all a lie, but if he could do it, why couldn't I ??  never did get that goldwing, (probably cause i never sent the money) uglystupid2 but it was fun f-ing with the guy....

I also wrote the scammer, but backed off very quickly. He sent this link full of pictures, almost a year ago:

Valkyrie Scam

But, then I went out and got scammed on the Interstate tank, on ebay, just a month ago...I DID get my $$$'s back from THAT one!

I feel for you. And, it doesn't ALWAYS have to be a good deal - I bid $680 on the tank! Not a BAD deal, but not a GOOD deal, either. Sorry to hear about the scam. The only way I could think to catch them, would to somehow be there, when they scoop the money...

Scammers do suck.  I have only done one purchase online that was not from a real store.  With a registered member here, was nervous about it because of the not talking on the phone or seeing the stuff in person.  Went great for me but still have my paranoia (sp?) screens on high when dealing not with a real (?) store.

Sorry to hear that you got scammed. I got scammed on eBay years ago on a $350 camera. Paid thru Paypal and all communications were thru eBay. Guy kept stringing me along for 32 days after payment until I finally filed a complaint. I then found out that Paypal complaints have to be filed within 30 days. So they wouldn't do anything about it. I did get half of my payment back thru some kind of insurance that eBay has.

I also filed a complaint with the FBI internet crime division. Don't know if anything ever happened to the guy, but it made me feel better.

Here is the link to the FBI.

Or, maybe, he's just legit, and got fed up with the crap tossed out here!!! Seems someone looked at his profile, and declared him bogus, but didn't bother to read his posts, on the same page? Seems he was pretty darn excited to get the dream Valk!! Take a look...

Alias' previous posts

In case you don't have time, here's what he wrote, and some of the "friendly" replies, before the snarling dogs showed their teeth:

Quote
On May 13th....Hi Guys, I just bought my first valkyrie this week.  I'm all goose flesh & it's still sinking in that I finally have begun to fulfill the dream.  She's a '98 w/ only 16 k miles on her.  Beautiful two tone colors & she's in flawless mint condition. It's been a long road to get to this level, I've waited a long time until I could pull the trigger fiancially.  She gets delivered on Monday, Uh, I won't be going to work that day sorry boss.
I live a half hour west of Philadelphia near Valley Forge & West Chester area & would be appreciative of some riding buddies.  What a great machine to own and great club to be part of !  Life is good.

im in Ocean city Md. there are many in the philly area. you shouldnt have a problem finding a few. I do a party/get together for delmarvabikeweek here. www.delmarvabikeweek.com is the address to find the dates. you would be welcome to attend. we have a few nice B&B's near me so, maybe??

oh, wlecome to the vrcc.. Cheesy

Sad that NOone saw this for what it was, and gave him a "heads up", when they saw the price, etc. I hardly ever read the general any more, because of the crap, but wish I had seen this, before he sat around all day, waiting on nothing! At least he might have had a few days jump on the guy.

As I said earlier, in my excitement when I first saw the Valk ad on Craigslist, I emailed the ad, and it could have been ME, that got bitten. And had it been me, I would have been very upset, and had I come here, and gotten the crap I just finished reading, I KNOW I would have left, and NEVER come back, regardless.

Fortunately, I'd been here enough, to figure out the A***s, and just put them on "ignore".

Alias, if you are still around, and DID get burned, I STILL feel for you! And don't let a few, destroy the VRCC - you can do what I do, and cruise the tech for the most part.

And before some of you all jump ME too much, I got the same exact emails back from the scammers, the Auto Trader deal, living in Tucson, bike in Florida, free shipping already paid for, etc, etc. If you want PROOF (since there are a few who feel everyone is deceitful), email me, and I will forward the 2 or 3 emails.

And as an aside, when I got my Valk, I didn't know too much about the differences between Tourers, Standards, and I'states, other than the Interstate had a fairing, like a Wing....

My $.02 worth - off the soapbox now, geez, what a tough crowd!!

When I first posted this message about my getting scammed I had only just found out an hours or so before.  I was shocked & upset.  I think my 1 st thought was maybe it would be useful so it didn't happen to someone else. I hope thats the case, it certainly generated a lot more people to be aware of this thing going on.  Wish I had had a heads up, it might not have happened.

The other reason I posted this is I just wanted to vent.  I had just joined vrcc less than a couple weeks ago right after I thought I had purchased a Valk. It was great to feel like a member & owner of a Valk & the club.

I'm not sure why folks wanted to think I  might be some kind of scammer myself.  Just the nature of cyber space I guess.  As the night wore on I tried to keep up w/ some of the posts coming in but was feeling awful so I realized I just wanted to stop thinking about it especially in a public forum.

I'm not going to address it any more, it's a hard one to live down.

Again, Alias, don't give up on the dream - they are worth having, even if you find it easier and better, to ride alone, such as I have...

I will say this though...It was reported to IC3 an internet crime watch and to my local authorities. I've been looking for postings on Craigslist for the scam to start up again in a different city. Found a rather suspicous add in Phoenix w/ someone looking to buy a Valk for half the going rate.  It could be something or nothing.  It's next to impossible to catch the perp.

Since I'm new to vrcc and in light of what happened to me, I just want to get on w/ my life.
Thanx to all of the condolences. I wasn't looking for sympathy as much as to get the heads up on apparently this "on going scam" ......I was the victim of my own greed & feel really lame.

I still think vrcc is a great group of folks & someday hope to join your ranks as a proud owner of a Valkyrie.  Be safe as Iknow i will from here on.

Alias,
I'm sorry you got ripped off, but I'm even more sorry that a few people felt the need to pounce on you here.  I sure you were feeling bad enough without the dogpile.

If scams didn't work, they wouldn't be out there.

It's easy for everyone here to realize it's a scam, because we know Valkyries and would recognize the red flags.  Someone just starting to look for a Valkyrie wouldn't necessarily notice the discrepancies.

I bought my first Valkyrie from an online ad and had it shipped from NJ to AZ... just saying.

I hope you haven't been soured on the VRCC... we're usually a fairly compassionate bunch.

Thanx again, best regards, Alias

I know the feeling! Sat on a Tourer, when they first came out, decided I wanted one, but couldn't afford it. Bought an '86 Wing instead, then waited 12 or 13 years, then FINALLY could afford an 11 year old standard, now for all intents and purposes, a tourer...well worth the wait! Keep at it, it'll happen!

The Valkyrie is a favorite of scammers. If you want to see a bunch of scams just use craiglook.com, search Valkyrie, and enter a price range of 2000-4500 or so.

Craiglist scams lose their magic when you see the same bike advertised all over the country like you can with:

www. craiglook.com

I can find scams like this on my other vehicles too. I usually at least forward their emails to abuse@_____.com or similar and get their email cutoff. They usually use a number series like jennifer76@hotnail.com or similiar as they are used to being shut off. They also have jennifer77, jennifer78, etc. If I'm bored I'll play with them and play along for a while making it look like I am really interested and stupid. Then I smile as their email gets cut off right at the moment they think they got me...

So, T-FREAKIN-P, which one is the apology?? Or, is that "above you"? And, I think there are a few more, here, that owe Alias an apology...I certainly hope they are forthcoming....

I'm not buying into this. Nobody is that dumb. There is a big bold sign at the top of the page that states offers to ship vehicles are 100% fradulent. However if anyone is interested I have some ocean front property for sale in Arizona. Just send me your money.  Grin

MINE didn't say that...maybe YOURS did, but you can't determine that the OP's did...SOOOOO quick to judge!!!

Im with laserpat and t.p. on this one. Check his/her profile, he/she doesnt show anything.

Yeah, you read the profile, but stopped there...didn't bother to read his other posts, about the excitement of owning a Valk!!!!

Craiglist scams lose their magic when you see the same bike advertised all over the country.

Wish that were true!! But, it's ONLY true, if you look all over the country!! Otherwise, you are apt to get caught up, in the scam. Again, it was only a narrow margin, that I didn't get caught up in it!!! I wanted a Valk badly, I was looking everywhere, and Craigs had a great looking bike, at a very reasonable price!!! I was just lucky, that as an IT guy, I did some searching. Otherwise, I would have been "Alias".

Now now... lets not be too hard on him.... he could be legit and is now just too embarrassed to continue.  I personally would never out myself on a public forum like this if I did something like that tho....  I would be too embarrassed in the first place.....     Shocked

EXACTLY what makes it tough - you'd be embarrassed to the point of letting someone ELSE get screwed? All because of PRIDE??? The though of humiliation, the other person be cursed???? That's what this world is coming to??????? Geez!!!

Go ahead, Willow, kill this...it wouldn't be the first....but, I think there are a few that owe Alias a sincere apology. I don't think he'll get it, because a few of those people, are NEVER wrong, regardless of the truth. And, it won't be the FIRST time I've been removed. But hopefully, those that it matters to, will have a chance to read it before it's removed....

Alias - I am sincerely sorry you got scammed. I'm just coming off a scam, myself, and find myself possibly in ANOTHER scam, this time on the good end. It SUCKS!!!!!!!! Maybe if you had found us a little earlier, or there was a category for "frauds", or you had JUST got lucky, you wouldn't have lost the money. That's a LOT of money!!!!!! I'm at the point in my life, that I can easily spend $2500 for something I want. However, I can't spend $2500, for NOthing!!! I would be really pissed. Then, to come here, and have a half-dozen or so, Valkyrie owners, chastise me??? For being fooled???

F them!!!!

I know I will regret this, but i want to respond.  don't want to step on toes.  I posted a couple of responses on why i thought this purchase by alias was foolish. I deleted one myself when I thought it was too strong.  The other must have been deleted by Admin along with a couple of other people who responded??

Alias if you lost this money i am sorry.  But i still can have an opinion.  You said you do not have a job and went in debt for your "dream".  You paid money over the internet for a "dream bike" at a price that was not believable.  You sent money through a source that could not be retrieved in the event of a scam.
Sorry,  this is just not fiscally responsible.  Not only did you make foolish mistakes on the internet, why are you buying something you can't afford, going into debt instead of getting your life in order, finding employment and then pursuing your dreams??  Undecided

Roger i always like reading your posts.  Both in the General section and especially in the Tech forum. You seem to be very knowledgable mechanically and i think we have similar political leanings.  You seem to have become the "white knight" for Alias, attacking long time board members who thought his decisions were foolish. To say that you would be "PROUD" to ride with him and that you would ride with "VERY" few is disappointing to me.  I would hope that if i was in your area you would be PROUD to ride with me because i am a Valkyrie lover who tries to know everything about the bike and love to ride.  i also hope you would be more selective in not basing your decisions of who you would be PROUD to ride with just because they were foolish enough to fall for a scam that they were not in any financial position to pursue.

i wonder if your strong defense of Alias is because of your feelings about your recent scam??  It sounds like you can afford to make online purchases and protected yourself from scam by using paypal.  For you to encourage Alias to buy a bike he can't afford is not good advice.  Give him some sympathy and then the good advice to get a job and out of debt.

And FINALLY to the Admin . . . is that you Willow? why delete my post disagreeing with Alias's decision to fall for this scam.  i have never had any post deleted except by myself.  Can't i have an opinion and post it??  Shocked

THE END!!!

IMO, there's a difference between thinking the purchase was foolish, and basically calling someone a fool, for their purchase. Don't get me wrong - I'm not pointing any fingers, here, as I didn't see your posts. I don't think there's a person here, that if that bike WAS legit, and WAS up for sale, for that price, wouldn't do whatever it took, to GET that bike, even going into debt!! On the surface, it appears to be a GREAT deal!!!!! Again, MY opinion, if it WERE legit, a person would be a fool, for NOT jumping on it!! Even if it were to "turn it", and double your money, or so...

Not only did you make foolish mistakes on the internet, why are you buying something you can't afford, going into debt i nstead of getting your life in order, finding employment and then pursuing your dreams??  Undecided

My opinion, not EVERYone's dream is to be "fiscally responsible", nor do we know the OP's status - I've been "self-unemployed" many a time, but with my skills, I've never gone more than a day or two, without employment, when I wanted it. I wouldn't have any problem borrowing $2200 for a Valk, even if I WAS broke, and unemployed. And, if I DID choose to do that, I would defy ANYone to call me "fiscally irresponsible", seeing as no one, but me, DOES know my circumstances. And again, if it WERE legit, everyone would be telling him, what a great deal he pulled off!

As for sending money through a source that can't be retrieved, for YEARS, Western Union WAS the primary, safe way to send money! And just because a lot of people here, are aware of the problems with it, I bet if you polled 100 on the street, a LARGE percentage, would think it was safe.

I also pursued the craigslist Valk. I wrote the scammer several times, becoming more and more aware that it WAS a scam, as I went on. Primarily, that it took several days before he responded. I figured that if it took several days to respond, and he still had the bike, that it was fishy. Ran like a scalded ape, but not after playing with him a bit. It didn't hurt to string him along, and figure out how the scam worked. People have been scammed since the beginning of time. And there have been scammers waiting to scam them. But calling someone a "fool" for being scammed, ain't right, in my book.

As for riding with others? I have very narrow beliefs. As do others. I do NOT surround myself with others, that criticize those beliefs. I merely choose not to, because invariably, the talk will evolve to beliefs, and that's where trouble arises. Nor, do I expect others that don't share my beliefs, to be subjected to riding with me. That being said, I should have written that there are few POSTERS in the forums, that I would ride with. I realize that it's a SMALL percentage of viewers of the forums, that actually post, and an even smaller percentage, that write crap that conflicts with my beliefs. But it's still a good number, that I wouldn't walk across the street to piss on, if they were on fire...and it USUALLY is because of their criticism of others. There are a heck of a lot of people that post on the forums, who have NEVER made a mistake, are NEVER wrong, and feel the need to let the world know it. Just as I know that there are a great amount of people on the forums, that I WOULD enjoy riding with. I guess I'm trying to say, that there are those, that I most definitely would NOT ever feel comfortable, riding with, and so I tend to avoid big, huge "group rides", for that reason.

i wonder if your strong defense of Alias is because of your feelings about your recent scam??  It sounds like you can afford to make online purchases and protected yourself from scam by using paypal.  For you to encourage Alias to buy a bike he can't afford is not good advice.  Give him some sympathy and then the good advice to get a job and out of debt.

No, it's not because of the scam I was involved with. There WAS no protecting myself against that one. Everything was done by the book, and it STILL happened - although NO feedback might have raised a flag, he also had NO sales. That, in my book, was better than BAD feedback. The auction looked legit - in fact, it WAS legit, the first time.  uglystupid2  I just didn't see it the first time. Am I a fool, because I was scammed? Not in the least. Had I not gotten my $$'s back, I would have been disappointed, but not devastated. But, I surely wouldn't have let any of that, NOT allow me to let everyone on the forums know, that kind of stuff is going on! I think it took courage for Alias to come out, and say he'd been scammed. For every person that's "too smart" to fall for it, there's another person that HOPES it's true. And then there's the person who goes for it, hook, line and sinker. The ONLY thing it makes that person, is SCAMMED!! NOT foolish, not an idiot, nor necessarily "irresponsible". There's a HUGE difference between "being fooled", and "being foolish" in my book. It's sad that it happens, but, as was said, if they didn't work, NO on would attempt to scam others.

As an aside, I've gone for 57 years, without feeling like I've ever been scammed. Until now, and it's all because of the big world available on-line. I am in the middle of ANOTHER scam!! Dealing with motorcycle parts. I bought some headsets, brand new, at a ridiculously low price. Figured I'd just gotten lucky, as he had 4 or 5 sets up for sale, and I lucked into a couple sets, at a really good price. All but one were delivered, so I called the company on the box they were delivered in. Yup, they had my order. Yup, they sent it out. Yup, they were paid for, but at the full retail price, 3 times what I had paid for them!! But, they weren't paid for by me. I paid through PayPal. They were paid for by some guy, who I had never heard of, who had NOTHING to do with the original auction. They are investigating - it appears that the seller, paid for the headsets with a stolen credit card number!! So, someone will be getting a $500 bill on their card, for my headset!! I really don't know how this one is going to sift out, as ebay/paypal will be responsible for my money. And I will have that money before I relinquish the headsets. But, EVERYTHING was done, according to Hoyle, so I don't feel at all "foolish" for being scammed, again. I'm just very happy that it's not MY credit card, that got hit!! And I do feel for whoever it HAS happened to! This global society, the free exchange of $$$'s across borders, and the ability to deal with someone from a 3rd world country, who has no money OR morals is sad, when they engineer designs to separate you and your money.

And FINALLY to the Admin . . . is that you Willow? why delete my post disagreeing with Alias's decision to fall for this scam.  i have never had any post deleted except by myself.  Can't i have an opinion and post it??  Shocked

THE END!!!

I didn't see your posts, sorry that I didn't. I've had one or two removed, myself. I will admit, I tended to deserve it. Proudly.

As for riding together? I ride with anyone. But, I am always ready to ride off, on my own. I make sure there's never anyone "depending" on me, to ride with them - carrying their stuff, being the only one who knows where we are/where we're going, etc. My fur doesn't get rankled TOO easily, but at the first little tugs, I'm gone. Just my way. I avoid a lot of crap that way. Kind of like waving - I wave back. Very seldom do I initiate waves. I mean, I don't wave at everyone in a pickup truck, just because I'M in a truck. or at Chevy trucks, because mine's a Chevy. Or, at people with blue T-shirts, if I happen to be wearing a blue T-shirt...I don't feel bikes are any different. It's not that I'm unfriendly - I just don't see the point in it.

Yeah, and with that, I'm at an END, also!

He has been found out,  I don't think we will see him again.

Still waiting for an apology. Unless that is below you....

Guess it's not forthcoming...

Just called my sister - she hadn't heard of this. She is now aware of it. She asked me why you allowed me to be scammed on the Interstate tank, since you are "all-knowing"...told her I'd ask. What should I tell her???

Roger didn't want to highlight entire post because it was so long . . .

"IMO, there's a difference between thinking the purchase was foolish, and basically calling someone a fool, for their purchase. Don't get me wrong - I'm not pointing any fingers, here, as I didn't see your posts. I don't think there's a person here, that if that bike WAS legit, and WAS up for sale, for that price, wouldn't do whatever it took, to GET that bike, even going into debt!!"

Last post on this.  The guy made stupid mistakes.  uglystupid2 If true, my sympathies. Usually don't call people a fool unless they are, but I didn't do it this time.  Hope most regulars here would not even need to be warned about avoiding this.

Where are some newer pics of your painted bags.  Don't keep us in suspense.

Last post on this.  The guy made stupid mistakes.  uglystupid2 If true, my sympathies.

No, he didn't make "stupid mistakes". He made mistakes, yes. Stupid?? No, just as Arnold let his "little Arnold" make the decisions, or Newt let his "little Newty" make his decisions, or Father Gropelittleboyz let his little tiny "Father Gropelittleboyz" make his decisions...okay, Father f*cked up....

Alias made a mistake...NOT  a "stupid mistake"...I'm sure we ALL have made a few mistakes. I NEVER made a "stupid" mistake. I've made plenty of mistakes. But none, that you, or anyone else, can prove were "stupid"!! And if you think you can, boy, are you stupid!! (that's a joke son, I mean, a joke, son....)

Where are some newer pics of your painted bags.  Don't keep us in suspense.

Okay, I'll admit - they ain't done yet!! When i got the paint, I neglected to get the masking. Got it today - I work 3rd shift - midnights - the "dead shift"....and I'm off at 7. They don't open til 8, and I'm home by then, thinking of zeepy-time....but today, I waited, and got the silver striping tape, as well as the masking tape. Won't be long.   Cheesy

I'm too fricken lazy (trust me, I COULD do it!!!!), to make a quicky php page, to determine how long it's been since T-FREAKIN-P has posted, and NOT given an apology to Alias, but suffice it to say, it's been a while...how's about it, T.P.? C'mon, man up, and admit you were wrong.....

We conclude that you at CRAIGSLIST  are too busy doing business to actually mind the store.  You have empowered your computers to “manage” rampant fraud.

These CURRENT POSTS are just a few out of dozens throughout  the nation on CL over the past year or more. Needless to dwell on, this is a gross violation of Craigslist’s own policy.

Moreover, because of the duration of this fraud, by YOUR INACTION YOU ARE COMPLICIT to relentless violations of the Interstate Commerce Act.

FYI: We at the Valkyrie Riders’ Club just had one of our members get ripped off by this swindle, across state lines.

It has been going on for too  long without any  action on your part to catch the thieve and to stop the fraud.

Again, your lack of action spells complicity, no less than when rapists use CL to hunt for victims.

Your FRAUD WARNINGS AND DISCLAIMERS will not cut it.
You do have a responsibility to act on, rather than ignore this persistent scam.

It is abundantly OBVIOUS that you have allowed this scam to continue unchecked.
You ought to be working in concert with federal Authorities to protect the public;
not just benefiting from it.

Again, your warnings and disclaimers are not an automatic license to avail your business as a vehicle for gross violations of state and federal laws.

Consider that when people post on CL to sell a $5 item and someone flags it, YOU IMMEDIATELY SEND your computer-generated  notice that
the harmless little post has been deleted.

Therefore, because your negligent INACTION OVER A LONG PERIOD, WE ARE NOT JUST demanding that  you merely delete these patently FRAUDULENT posts.

Make no mistake. YOU ARE PUT ON NOTICE:  We are ACTIVELY DEMANDING that you investigate this matter and bring the culprit (s) to justice.

Your failure to IMMEDIATELY ACT ON THIS MATTER will only increase your liability and will encourage collective legal action, already under consideration.
Let alone the negative publicity that you will generate on your volition and ours, so help us God!

We expect your prompt response.

POSITIVELY.

Hello Craigslist’s Legal Minds…

WOW,...   angel    Your computers are really on top of things... Very responsive... aren't they?

PROBLEM: Contacting “local law enforcement” might get you some sympathy,
but they lack jurisdiction to combat interstate federal crimes,
as Craigslist would have us think.

As pointed out in the original email below, Craigslist, like every other business in the USA has an AFFIRMATIVE OBLIGATION / RESPONSIBILITY to protect the public.
Especially when put on notice about preventable, long-term-on-going fraud across state lines.

Craigslist’s encouragement to pursue knowingly “ineffective “solutions” to this major problem is indeed an act of complicity with the crime.
It places the weak in a position of  powerlessness.

So much for corporate responsibility... err...
OK, let us be shocked.  Shocked  Ready? Go!    Shocked Shocked Shocked
