i can not, nor will i attempt to understand how a "MOTORCYCLE" forum can allow a comment regarding "gay marriage" continue for 5 pages while a comment regarding a motorcycle design patents gets locked after just two pages!!!

http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,29638.0.html

this place should be renamed Valkyrie Religious Corner Club.

My guess is that Willow saw the H-D thread as getting a little too personal?

hahaha... I stopped reading the gay marriage thing about response.......... 2!  But I kind of agree, why block any thread that is brings lively debate.  Politics, religion and your wifes age or weight.... all taboo.

I agree... I was enjoying the Harley bashing and the "HD forum ambassadors'" fierce defenses much more than the gay/straight political debate.  I am sure Honda bashing threads go into perpetuity on the HD forums!

I was also somewhat surprised it was locked.  I'm guessing Willow decided it was becoming a brand bashing session by a few members.  It looks like the last message was someone flying off the handle in an attempt to justify their disdain of the brand.

I was amazed to learn that Porsche used a V-twin engine in their cars, and that there’s a 4 cylinder V-twin that’s liquid cooled??  Funny thought, wouldn’t it be a “gay marriage” to put two V-twins together, then bathe them with cooling water??  Grin Grin

Not to derail this and turn it into Liquid Cooled Patent Smackdown II but you might be surprised to find that it's not as prevalent as you think over there. Sure there are H-D asshats who are hung up on bashing other brands but really, they're just as dismissive about other bikes as they are actively hostile, which is almost MORE insulting to me.

And Buell riders, those poor people get crap from EVERYONE because they're orphans. The H-D guys don't like them because they don't ride "real Harleys" and Japanese sportbike guys give them crap because they think that if it isn't making 150hp then it's not a "proper motorcycle". Really, who cares? I've loved all of my bikes and to some degree, regret selling each and every one of them.

Alph, I guess Willow didnt think anyone would move on just because he said to.  I didnt see that thread as much bashing as in times past.  There must be a sensitivity to be political correctness between brands now a days.  Way too much time spent trying not to hurt some little feelings about ANY subject

H-D really flubbed up on Buell...  I have heard that the teen and twentysomething riding crowd is overwhelmingly buying and preferring sportbikes.  Even folks at my local Harley and all-brand metric motorsport store think that any manufacturer, including Harley, that does not offer sportbike products are going to see sales declines.  It also seems to me that even the metric manufacturers keep slimming down their cruiser lines and focusing on their sport lines.

Harley sells a tough image to fit into...  Look as much like a one-percenter as possible BUT you must have deep pockets to afford our product.  If you ride any other bike built in the US, you are still unAmerican and laughed at.  If you buy a Sportster or a Buell... you are STILL laughed at until you trade up.  If you ride a Harley but wear protective and/or hi-viz gear you are laughed at.  If you ride a Harley but don't wish to engage in the biker-bar atmosphere you are laughed at.  I think these are the things that breed resentment in the non-Harley crowd.

And yet Valkyrie owners ride the bikes associated with Viking lore!  Cheesy

I fell in love with the Valkyrie before knowing about any Viking stories or any other branding issues.  I have friends that ride Harleys and make fun of me (in jest) for riding a "rice burner" I have come across a couple Harley drivers that appear to actually hate anyone that rides another brand.  I can easily blow them off, its just stupid.  I have poked fun at Harleys for years and its 99.999% of the time taken in the spirit inteded....in jest.  My friend calls my Bike a "Valerie" just to mess with me.....Its all good, why do we have to pretend the poking doesnt exist

I just had a look at the "Liquid Cooled Harley Patent" thread and saw no reason to lock it.  Willow, if people are beating a dead horse, so what?  It was an interesting read showcasing people's misunderstandings of engine balance and how it relates to horsepower.  I see plenty of threads showcasing people's misunderstandings of politics, religion, and economics, yet these bags of skin and hair aren't even recognizable as horses any more.

I agree with Gryphon Rider.  Many threads that descend into arguments quite often produce much more interesting information than one where everyone simply agrees.  Arguments usually force the participants to research areas and details they normally wouldn't, and it can enrich everyone's knowledge.

I, also, know someone who asks if I'm still riding "that Valerie". I don't remind him of the night I ol' lady sat for him while he went to church with his stroker in the bed of his truck. Grin
A  firefighter (newly Harley-ized) used to call her "The Hot Water Six", again in fun.  His old lady, though, got to where she wouldn't acknowledge me in public.  I took some pleasure in knowing he got custody of both the Harleys and  her silicone tits in the divorce.

H-D really flubbed up on Buell...

They did, and badly. And all because the incoming head-honcho of H-D wanted to make an example for the shareholders.

I talked to a Honda stealership owner that told me there is ONE man that has the final/ultimate
decision on what Honda brings to the USA....and he is convinced that everyone wants a v-twin.

alph,

Post a few pictures of the beautiful work you did with LED's on your Interstate. That's sure to improve the tone around here. As a general rule, I seldom look at, or post on a thread, regardless of the topic, when they go over 2 pages. Typically, well before the 3rd page the original topic turns in to a shouting match.
Also as a general rule, I don't bother reading posts from a few on here because they all too often have diarrhea of the mouth and constipation of the brain.
But seriously, post some of the great work you've done to your Valkyrie. It's inspiring!

All the best,

Mark
