Couple of years ago rode from my house in Rio Rancho NM to the GOTF, 1069 miles in about 18 hrs, was a long day but a great weekend.  |

The MOST improtant thing to remember is that when you get tired STOP! Anyone in the emergency services has heard the famous last words "I know i was tired but I thought I could make it" Sleep can catch ya in weird places. Caught up to the wife with the twins in the truck on her way back from shopping 15mn away from the house. She was 2 blocks from the house when a telephone pole interrupted her nap. Thank GOD everyone was ok ( slow speed crash 20mph ish , and the ARB bumper on the Grand Cherokee) But things could've been a lot worse just as easy. If you feel tired take a nap. Be careful and enjoy the trip.  |

I have ridden several 1000+ days in my life the most rememberable one was for charrity, Iron butt ride, 4 of us did it together, they made us stop every 125+- miles for fuel, took tag numbers so no one would skip the stops, then we had to stop for lunch, the officals from Iron butt were their, we were the first to arrive, We were told it wasnt a race, (we thought it was). Had a 45min. traffic jam, and still did it in 15 hours 3 min. Of course we won. Great day really kind of fun.

October 1953, left San Francisco, CA on a 1949 74 Harley ci hard tail, and rode to Tallahassee, FL in 3 days. There were no Interstates then, Route 66 (all 2 lane) got ya to Missouri, and it was still 2 lane the rest of the way to Florida. Total trip was 2800 miles and did it in 2 1/2 days.
That has to be one of the coolest motorcycle ride stories that I have ever heard. |

I went a little over 400 on my 84 V65 Magna from E TX into Ark to the ozarks. I wasn't tired but my butt was sure ready to quit. I know I can go lot farther on the Valk, and I'm fixin' to find out thanks to Disco, 5_19, and Hayhauler and their iron A$$E$.

767 miles, Beaumont, Tx to Boise City, Ok. About 15 hrs. on the I/S. 729 Beaumont to Atlanta, Ga. about 16 hrs. on the first motorcycle I ever owned, an 02 Ultra Classic, had it about 3 months, thought my legs would be complete BBQ when I arrived there.

Back then I had a cast iron butt. LOL......
I've ridden several 1,000 milers on the Valkyrie. When I had my Russell Day Long saddle a 1,000 mile run was a piece of cake. Can't really say that for my Ultimate, but, the Day Long got a little tired and torn, should have had it redone by Russell, but I didn't.

Solo 1225 mi. from Hotglues to Franklin,IN just south of Indy in 17-18 hours three different times.  Two up from Frisco CO to Cameron, MO 850 looong mile. in 15 hours from IZ6. Took I-70 to US 36all the way across KS. It was 100 degrees when we hit the Kansas line and 100 degrees when we hit the Mo line.  Went thru 1.5 cases of water thru the course of the day and was never so happy to get a cold shower with the ac cranked as low as possible that night.  |

With your frequent u-turns, I'm sure you've gone over 1400.  (Psycho's longest day rides have been from MasterBlaster's house in Leesville to ours ). My longest days are in the 1200's; and not by choice (couldn't find a hotel or just needed to get home). Generally, I don't plan for more than about 1000/day. At that point I'm looking for a motel... what a wimp!!  |

First full day of owning the Valk, July 1, 2007 I rode 876 miles from Colorado Springs to Austin, TX.
First tank of gas I got 22.666 mpg. Having WAY to much fun.
Just realized that I have had my Interstate 4 years as of yesterday.
I filled up my tank yesterday and mileage was 39.867 mpg.
Mileage when I bought it was 25,450 and yesterdays mileage was 109,007. That is 83,557 miles in 4 years.

The school was on the other side of the hill.. leave home uphill, leave school uphill, I use to do it. I bet u are spoiled. |

1000 mile days are pretty common for me...
I've done 1500 and a smidgen in 24 hours...could have done some more but when a big white wolf walked out of the woods at a gas stop, clearly called me a f***ing moron, and took my keys I decided my judgment was most likely impaired and got me a motel room next door.
I got a "no smoking" room but I paid the pet deposit for the wolf.
When I questioned the clerk the next afternoon (yeah, I slept in a bit) why they had charged me a deposit for a quote "cursed big annoying white wolf" she said I insisted.
Either my judgment *was* somewhat impaired, or the wolf left early. Even odds on which...

Back in the early to mid 50's when I was running all over the US from base to base, there were NO rest areas, but almost every little town had a city park with a picnic table. Either laid on the seat and slept or up on top. Was really never bothered for it either.
Had a Town Marshall stop and ask me one night what i was doing, told him I was riding from 1 duty station to the next and needed a place to grab a couple of winks. He said OK, enjoy.
Just about daybreak, him and his wife showed up again, with my breakfast. Nice town and great people. Breakfast was good also and a nice hot cup of coffee.
Back then, if you were stopped on the side of the road, before you could get off the bike about 1/2 dozen cars had stopped to see if ya had a problem and needed any help. Now, those were the gold old days.
NO Interstates, but a lot of nice 2 lane's, especially Route 66 from California to Missouri before it headed NORTH.......... Some of the roads in the Appalachians were something to be dreamed about. Some roads in Alabama and Mississippi were not the best, but passable and pleanty of gas stations along the way, and lot of good eatin joints, ma & pa ones.
Back then was when I did the lower 48 the 1st time. Mostly on a hardtail HD, and a few on the Snortin Norton, I traded for in da South, Florida I think it was. I know I had just finished doing an engine major on the hardtail in a parking lot, guy walked up, made me an offer, I rode his Norton and traded on the spot. I could do 700 mile days on the Norton and be ready for more after supper.

I will point out that 16 hour days can really drain your body and mind. If you want to do anything that requires mental dexterity when you arrive in Maggie Valley, like ride a motorcycle, I would not recommend a 16 hour ride. The last several hours really become mind numbing.
To each their own. It doesn't matter how far I've ridden in a day, what is most important is how far have you ridden in a day recently. If you haven't spent more than a few hours in the saddle at a pop recently then a 16 hour day might be something to build up to.

1150 from Our house in Bryceville Fl to St. Joseph Mo. on the way to Sturgis the first time. It was brutal. We got to the hotel and I asked Joanne If she wanted to ride to dinner... she said NO. That was the first time I heard her say she had had enough riding. 1846 miles in two days. It was brutal. But then again we did the GOTF twice, and that was 980 miles. We had Robert (green Valk) with us the second time, he said we were nuts and would never do it again. We haul ass, no stops more than gas and go, chow was beef jerky at gas stops, and the speed limit was just a suggestion. But I did get him home in record time. |

From Albuquerque to CT with 3 700 miles days in a row, two up, with tropical storm Ivan (previously hurricane Ivan which we hit on the way out to CO and WY) laying some nice rain and wind on us on the way back. Also losing a timezone each day sucked. From CT to Moosehead Lake in ME and back to the house, 980 miles in 22 hours, all to have some lunch with some friends Twice the New England Saddle Sore 1000 (second time just to ride with some friend going for it). That is a tough one with over 300 miles of two lane critter filled roads. First time in the rain in early May. I will probably be doing this one again with my 21 year old son with him on the Valk that we just fixed from hydrolock. the dalai |

1540 miles on the Iron Butt Bun Burner Gold ride. Two of us left Kerrville, Tx and rode to Benson Arizona, got our papers signed and turned around and rode the other half back to Kerrville, Tx in 23 hrs 10 minutes. Did it in March of 2006 on my 2001 Valkyrie, the other guy on a Honda VTX 1800. He added a gas tank and I installed the interstate tank on my Tourer.

1140 miles, in June, from east of Austin Texas to north Phoenix (where my house is), that's pretty much desert all the way with temps over 100 and it took me 21 hours and 23 minutes.

Geez everyone here is 'way over my miles in one day.
I only have three personal bests. One is two 350 mile days back to back on a hardtail Matchless thumper in 1949. No interstates then.
The second is a 650 mile day on a Honda 900F.
The third, and last, is a 565 mile day from Gatlinburg to Indiana on the Valk at age 75.
I could try for a 400 mile day from Indiana to Bellaire Michigan on the Vstrom at age 83 but I won't . As Clint Easrwood said "A man's got to know his limitations." I now have a few.

mmmm, my trips have always been from here to there, never worried too much about how far or how fast, some days 500 miles is good, others maybe only 300 or so..all depends on the mood, weather and such..been on 50 mile trips that felt like a 1000, and others that felt like 50..just the fact that I'm gettin to ride, away from the house is all good for me...

980 from Orlando FL to Greenwood. I didn't know about the IBA then... I did it on a 1987 VFR-700 interceptor. I did it in a touch over 12 hours. It was in 1990. Don't ask how fast I was running between gas stops.   Luckily I did not see any  . I'd not wish that ride on anyone. Jabba |

1546 miles on the Iron Butt 1500 within 24 hours on my '98 Valk. I rode several Iron Butt rides in 2004. Coast to coast to coast tied into 5000 miles in five days ect, ect, ect. The one I want to do on the Valk is the Four Corners of the USA ride.

I guess most of us aren't made of the stuff that a few riders are.
Imagine, near 70 mph for 15 hrs., or 65 mph for 13, or 80 for 12 hrs.
I guess there are tough ones on valks. Heck, it would be near impossible to get these averages in a car with no traffic. I'm impressed.

I was living in VA and some yahoo blew up our bridge! I mean couple cases of dynomite blew it up! shook the house about 1 1/2 miles away. that was the long way out of where we lived, we had to walk down the back side of the ridge to catch the bus at the bottom about 3/4 mile, steep tho. going home was when you had to climb |

it is real hard to stay frosty and alert for that long, lucky for me i was riding out I-80 and mostly dealt with truck traffic as it was during the week. |

Just did a run from HotGlue's GOTF in April from Houston (Friendswood) TX to Mooresville NC, 1150 in about 20 hours ... did this with Yogi's wife riding her new Victory and she did 1000 or so in a little less time ( I had farther to go)...
Done 1100 milers several times, couple on Valk, couple on FJR...
advice on Hydrate is spot on... hydrate hydrate hydrate...
