Alright, I’m heading to Maggie Valley with a NITRO and we’re wondering if it can be done in one day.  I’m not too fond of riding in the dark (animals) but if it can be done, well hell, I’ll do it.  It’ll be a 955 mile ride, that’s about 16 hours straight, 6 am to 10 pm if we average 60mph.

1018 miles, and was ready to do another 500 but the spousal unit cut off the fuel funds...

If you're gonna go that far, add another 50 on to it and make it formal, get your IBA membership, it'll make the ride a little more fun... (Did for me at least...)

Davenport IA to Sturgis SD. I think it was 800-900 miles. Slept at a rest stop the night before so sleep wasnt the greatest. Left at 9a and rolled into the Chip at 11p. Took my time with alot of breaks along with shopping at K-mart. Wind was very strong on 90. Was gonna stop at another rest stop for the night but got my second wind and made it. They wouldnt let me in early so I stripped down and curled up next to the bike for a good nights rest.
Pace yourself and you'll be fine. You may want to started earlier then 6 since the son will already be up by then. But, from expierience it makes you more tired leaving in the dark.

London Canada to Warr Acres, OK = 1170 miles.  Left after breakfast and got home sometime around 1:00-2:00 AM (can't remember exact time).

My suggestions:

HYDRATE!!!  Make sure that you are constantly sipping water.  If you end up getting dehydrated you are going to be worn out and it can get dangerous.

If you get tired STOP!!  Making a long distance trip is fine but if you crash because you get tired and make a mistake it just is not worth it.

HYDRATE!!  (see above)

I've made several trips in the 900-1000 mile range in a long day.  Just be careful.  When you stop for fuel be sure to stretch well, and not just walk around.  Do stretching exercises.  Get your blood flowing a bit.

If I ever get too tired I just pull over at a roadside stop somewhere, find a shady spot and catch a 15-20 minute nap.  You';d be surprised at how much a short nap like that will help.

Have fun on your trip but above all be safe.

You have to go with what is comfortable for YOU.
I considered 400 my max.  Coming back from Kentucky I did about 600 and felt comfortable riding the rest of the way which came to about 850.  After I got home I would have gone for a ride except I was wet from the last 50 miles of thunder storms.

I'm not into self mutilation, 750 a day is my self imposed limit.  I stop every 120 miles for a 10 minute break.  I'll never break the big 1k mi. unless there is a large wager involved.

I've done around 800 miles a few times on my Valkyrie....That's about all I want I'm never in that big of a hurry when I'm doing what I love to do. I rode my Suzuki Bandit 1200 S down to Florida one time and did about 750 miles that day when I got to the motel I did'nt even care if I put the kick-stand down all I knew was I wanted off that motorcycle....My butt never really bothers me it's the twins that start giving me problems...When the twins are over it I'm over it.

My wife and I did 15 hours on the valk in 2006 to get home.  The first 13 hrs was ok the last 2 hrs hour were a killer.  We should have stopped though after the 13th hour, reflexes were down.  Not worth it.

It all depend upon the road and route.

Interstate - 1,000 miles in a day easy.

2 lane roads - 1,000 miles in a day hard.

Anyone that rides further than their body and mind is agreeabale with is dumb.

Having said that.

I've ridden over 1,000 miles in a day on my ex Valkyrie. 2 lane roads. That hurt.

I've ridden over 1,200 miles in a day on my ST1300. A mix of roads. Easy peasy but the sun was swiftly disappearing.

I've ridden over 500 miles in a day on my KLR650. 2 lane roads. That hurt.

Of these the only dumb mileage was the KLR cause I was hurting.

I tend to ride from sunrise to sunset. Animals and crappy night vison are limiting factors.

I once rode about 400 just for breakfast, round trip Evil

I rode from omaha NE to ogden UT. my atlas puts it at 928 miles, I think I was a few short of that. by my odometer I needed to get to snowville UT for an unofficial iron butt.  when traveling from east to west you get to pick up time zones and you roll with the sun, I would have made it too but there was a HUMUNGOUS thunderstorm at the WY/UT border. I was shutdown for 2 hours.

ossining to markleville indiana (near indianapolis) around 750 miles

left at dawn 6am got there 7pm but gained a time zone done it twice each way

I am with Fudd I stop every 120 to 150 miles for gas, drink a liter of water eat a banana or some m&M'S and stretch and bathroom wash my face and during midday soak my doo rag and evaporative vest

You will not get untired once you get tired

Also I cant eat carbos cause I will crash out and need to nap Gman can tell you what happened once on the way home from inzane lol  I have the gift of being able to sleep under an overpass with trucks wizzin by

I think I could do 8o0 if I had to but only on a superhighway with higher speed limits  In the northeast the limits are too low and traffic too thick  Down south and west you can make good time

I left InZaneX last year from Bellaire, MI.  at 6:00 am and was home in Winston-Salem NC at 11:00 pm that night.  It  started raining in Knoxville TN. and rained all the way to my driveway.  The total mileage was 1026.  (Unofficial Iron Butt)

1028 miles in 15 hours
Average Speed(stops included): 68.5mph

Of course 99% of those miles were on I-40. Get off the interstate and those miles, in that amount of time, is almost impossible.

As others have said, keep yourself hydrated! For the first half to 3/4's of the trip you need to keep gas stops to the absolute minimum.  Fill the tank, go to the bathroom, drink water, and GO!  If you piddle around for 15 or 20 minutes at each stop you are going never make it in the time you expected(and you won't average 60 mph).  Do the quick stops early in the ride so that later as you get tired you can take a little extra time to rest at stops.

Nice work, guys!

Valkpilot, Yoda Master, and I rode our Valkyries 1,065 miles from Denton, TX to Deadwood, SD last July.  Total time: 18 hours.  Ride time: 16 hours.

(plus the 25 miles I rode to get to the start point)

Previous best was 665 coming home from InZane IX - Colorado City, CO to Frisco, TX.  Doesn't count, though.  It was on an 1800 'wing...

A few years back I rode from Frisco, CO. straight to my home in Fort Worth, Texas 848 miles (17 hours). Didn't make good time.

Last year I rode from my home in Fort Worth, Texas straight to Ocala, FL. 1057 miles (17 hours). Made better time on this trip.

I think it was Oct. 2005.  My brother and I rode to Apache Junction, AZ from Iowa in 3 days.  Coming home, the first night we stopped in Santa Rosa, NM.  Next day went all the way home to Hiawatha, Iowa...1124 miles in under 24 hours.

Rode straight home from the first InZane at Johnson City, TN to Altoona, Iowa...926 miles.

The 1124 miles from NM to IA was a killer because we really hadn't had much rest on our trip.  We rode every day while we were in AZ.  The last 250 miles I fought to keep my eyes open.  Now the trip from TN to IA seemed like a piece of cake.  When we got home, I felt I could of done at a minimum 100 miles more.  Now I really don't like doing that.  A 600 mile day is more reasonable.

1147 miles in 22hrs 54 mins. Denver Colorado to Winnipeg Manitoba.  I had to stop and sleep twice for 20 mins.  I left after a full day of classes (15:13) and arrived at 14:11.  I don't recommend this technique.  I still had to drive 200 miles more in the car afterwords.

I also did 900andsome miles coming back from InzaneX, no rest stops there and mostly two lane.

As other's have suggested, stay hydrated.  Another tip is make sure your credit card works and you have advised the CC company of your travel plans.  Pay at the pump and your stops can be as quick as 7 min, pay with cash and it can take 30.

The big one is if your tired pull over and grab some sleep.

Ride safe.

October 1953, left San Francisco, CA on a 1949 74 Harley ci hard tail, and rode to Tallahassee, FL in 3 days.   There were no Interstates then, Route 66 (all 2 lane) got ya to Missouri, and it was still 2 lane the rest of the way to Florida.     Total trip was 2800 miles and did it in 2 1/2 days.

Back then I had a cast iron butt.    LOL......

I've ridden several 1,000 milers on the Valkyrie.    When I had my Russell Day Long saddle a 1,000 mile run was a piece of cake.   Can't really say that for my Ultimate, but, the Day Long got a little tired and torn, should have had it redone by Russell, but I didn't.
