October 1953, left San Francisco, CA on a 1949 74 Harley ci hard tail, and rode to Tallahassee, FL in 3 days. There were no Interstates then, Route 66 (all 2 lane) got ya to Missouri, and it was still 2 lane the rest of the way to Florida. Total trip was 2800 miles and did it in 2 1/2 days.
Back then I had a cast iron butt. LOL......
I've ridden several 1,000 milers on the Valkyrie. When I had my Russell Day Long saddle a 1,000 mile run was a piece of cake. Can't really say that for my Ultimate, but, the Day Long got a little tired and torn, should have had it redone by Russell, but I didn't.
RJ's been my hero for years... he da baddest!! ... waytago RJ! woulda loved to have been able to ride with you way back when... Mosa!!

About 1065 miles. At every other gas stop I would drink a bottle of water and eat some beef jerky. I was on my first of two Moto Guzzi Bassa. The two middle fingers on my right hand have never been the same. I ordered a Throttlemeister the day after I got home but the damage was already done. Those fingers still hurt today and if it weren't for a throttle lock, I may not be able to ride at all. All the best, Mark

1541 in a 24 hour period. I once rode 1900 miles before stopping for the night, but it was a day and a half. That's some amazing saddle time and mileage. In particular, when your not behind a windshield.

I'm a little vain. I post the pic to be sure the point isn't missed. I should be honest enough to say those two rides were over four years ago during my previous life.
Incidentally, my friend, Raymond, makes my rides look wimpy.

Plus the fact that a good stretch of I-10 is 80mph. Yep! That is one long ride.

June 30th-left willow springs mo and headed north to my brothers place near cary il. I checked the Il D O T road repair board b4 i left. Lets just say it was less than truthful. Left a 15 to 6am on the 30th. Tied up with my brother at about 7:30 pm that night. 623 mls and i was toast. The first 2 or 3 fuel stops(about 125 to 140 miles) went fairly quick. They got longer as the day progressed. The miles between stops got less. My old bones kept reminding me how old i are, I did a little over 700 miles coming home but took my time and spread it out over 2 days. LOTS more enjoyable thataway. And staying hydrated is very very important. Coming back south got hotter very quickly. For me gator ade is fantastic. Seems to perk you up as you drink it. I was thinking about doing an iron butt. 2 key words there-was thinking As an ex over the road trucker-know what your limit is-and never exceed it. RIDE SAFE.

<<1541 in a 24 hour period.
I once rode 1900 miles before stopping for the night, but it was a day and a half. >>
I rode about 1050 miles in 20 hours, 98% state highways during a trip from Maryland to OK. That was simply a matter of getting up early and arriving late- we just rode as steady as we could, and averaged about 50 miles an hour including stoppong and ordering lunch at a DQ. My brother was with me on his Bandit 1100. I was on the LD Rider email list a few years back, run by all the Iron Butt cognoscenti and it was amazing how many miles these guys rack up. I mean- 500 miles for a burger happens all the time. And if you ever read some of the writeups of what they go through during the Iron Butt rally- they get routed from NYC to AK and then over to FL, or you could pick some other route to rack up points yu need to win place or show.... So they have sanctioned rides- 1,000 miles in less than 24 hrs (Saddlesore 1000), and then the SS1500, and BunBurner 1,2, and 3000, which I think is back to back SS1500's... only a handful of people have these hanging on their walls. And then there is the CC50 and CCC100, coast to coast in under 50 hrs, and coast to coast to coast in under 100. Not sure if anyone keeps any stats anymore- I know they used to, because I read a lengthy writeup by a guy who did the CC50. That's from the beach at Jacksonville, FL to ...San Ysidro I think- or wherever the end of the Interstate is when you're coming from FL. It was a good read, and this guy had the fastest time. It was documented. (I read this onlline somehwere probably in 2003-2004). Anybody want to guess what he was riding? Mark

I made it the 1,000 miles down with Alph to Maggie Valley and 800 on the way back. Considering we rode through some heavy storms (my boots and butt were wet for 700 miles) and 100 degree weather most of the way, I think we did pretty well. Had it been 70 and no storms, I think another 3-500 would be very reasonable.
