I'm going to have the tank off to replace the air filter. I don't know that I have any vacuum problems, but thought after 12 years, the lines must be getting brittle from the cumulative years of heat. Thought I'd replace all of the rubber(?) vac lines while I was in there. Yes, I know I should just desmog it, but I'm not ready to take that on so close to InZane. Don't want any of my own miscues preventing me from making that trip.

Can I just get tubing from an auto parts place to replace the vac lines, or is there something special about what's in there? Any idea how much I'll need, ID, OD, proper material?

The Red Eye guy sells a good precut set, and there's something called "the string trick" in
Shoptalk or over at rattlebars that makes the job pretty easy... me and Stanley Steamer did
it to his bike one day...

Here's another thread with the link to the string technique:

Just replaced my vacuum lines today. Didn't do the string thing(Thanks for the link, Bobbo) only because I couldn't see my way around. So I took the airbox out, wanted the experience of doing that.
used the 3/16 lines with a pinch clamp although the 5/32 fits. Bought 3 ft of hose at Auto zone didn't need that much. Just cut to size.

Get rid of those things.  Desmog your Valk.
