As soon as the hurricane passed overhead and cleared out I took a ride on the beemer to survey the damage.  I saw an incredible amount of water entering the hudson river off of the croton gorge so turned up 129 to hit the Croton Dam and see for myself how much was going down.

The access road to the dam was closed but there was lots of cars along the road so I rode onto the road and parked so I could get out quickly if need be

I saw three adult males preparing to white water raft down water that was really moving wildly they had full gear  and what looked like one oxygen divers tank (just in case) In the pic are the guys I saw especially the one on the right in the pic

Today in the paper I learned that Dr Peter Engel (who actually was a psychiatrist) 53 will not have another birthday as he drowned in water clocked at 48mph (how they clock it is a mystery to me)

He musta hit one of the hundreds of trees in the rampaging Croton River and overturned and never made it   Rescuers themselves were tossed overboard and were rescued by the brave volunteer firemen of croton rescue  The Croton police marine unit actually picked Engel up from the water

In the video I posted maybe I said holy cow ten times and at least one holy $hit I just could not find words to narrate the video that made any sensse

As with motorcyclists you don't get many old and bold white water rafters.  Shocked

Going into flood swollen rivers is extremely dangerous. The continous torrents never have any pools. That was way to narrow to run with raft. I think if they were experts they would have been in kayaks.

Down here... we call them 'strainers'  flood waters through the trees.... trees uprooted by the flood... and the water going though them.... ya get caught in that.. yer not coming up....
Such a shame for the loss...
