I changed the Windshield, Seat, Shocks and Tires (nobody runs the OEM tires...) but you can only select one
for the poll...

I went on the meet in the middle ride with Stanley Steamer's OEM shocks, they were OK, I could live with that...

The tall OEM windshield is hard to see through in the rain, but it is not always raining, I could live with that...

You can't get the OEM tires if you wanted to, so ...

I guess I'll click on seat, I rode on the OEM one for about a year, and got to hate it worse and worse...

Well Dag,  I've changed all the items from OEM, except for the last one on the list  Roll Eyes  And since I don't want to have to start using WIFE ver3.0, I'll keep the present 2.0 on the rear seat  Grin

Well, I clicked seat. I changed mine from the 1998 standard to the 2000 standard OEM. I would probably have clicked No change if that had been available. Most of the changes to mine are cosmetic. I've added a trunk to my tourer and a maiden head badge based on my wife's face to the saddle bags.
I'm running dark-side on the back and a Shinko on the front, but I never really considered changing tires as changing the bike. I look at tires as a consumable, and every bit as changeable as gas or oil.

Please add brakes to the poll.  coolsmiley

Is it perfect? No. Am I 100% satisfied? For what it is (a 14 year old bike) I'd be more than 100% satisfied if that were possible.

I have a standard with an after market sheild. I would like to try the o.e.m. windshield. Also would like the hard bags. Sounds like i should trade up to the next model. But i like my bike and know what i have. So i guess i am satisfied.  uglystupid2 As to the passenger read the bottom of my post. coolsmiley

Sorry for the hijack.
Now back to our regularly scheduled program/poll.
I voted for tires.  I have been darkside for about 30k miles now and the GY TT has another 10k on it I think.  I still have the stock seat, for now.

it's the seat for me. I've tried the OEM pre-2000 the post-2000, Ultimate Big Boy, Mustang, and a Corbin. Some are better than others but none eliminate the butt-burn. My next stop is the Russel Day-long. Hoping that's the one  Angry

Before you blow money on another seat (and assuming you haven't tried this already) give bicycle compression shorts a try. They worked very well for me and the gel padded crotch ones help with even the worst of seats.

I opted for windshield, as the previous owner was a tad "vertically challenged" and cut the OEM shield to suit him. Way too short for me, so that would be my first priority of the choices listed.

On my recent trip to Inzane I experimented with beaded seat covers. I switched back and forth a couple of times and the beads work wonders. It's about the captive heat and sweating that leads to my discomfort. The air circulation is where it's at. Sitting on small hard little beads takes some getting used to but I prefer it. In the heat they have my vote for sure. BTW I have a Big Boy Ultimate.

Amen to that! I am a native Floridian {yes we do exist} & I will NOT swim in water colder than 85 degrees. Anything below 70 is freezing. I'm too far north here in Ocala, I have no idea how you poor folks living above the 30th parallel manage to exist.  Shocked

Most important change from stock for me was 440's and progressive fork springs. After that would be tires and then my Ultimate seats and backrests.

If I could add anything I wanted to her now, it would be 20 - 50% more HP without losing dependability.

Seat had to go. I have an Ultimate now.  cooldude
Stock shocks, w/shield, & mirrors are great for me... it's a cruiser not a race bike!
Avons make me happy, never had the stockers to try.
Passenger has her own bike equipped just for her & since we both have Ultimate 4 piece seats the passenger is always smiling on either bike!
Gettin' a bit tired of the "Ice Cream truck" look on my red & white so the next big project will be a repaint. Garnet solid color with some gold striping is what I want.  Wink

100%

I entered the back seater just to 'play' but honestly? None of the said items. Yes, some bikes have things we'd like but they come with trade-offs. I've had Beemers with heated everything (never used the heat once). Power windshield - nice touch, sure. But it comes at a price in other areas. For one, it's not a Valk!
Like Al said - 100% perfect. (Except his is black, so that's more like 82%)

When you update the results, please don't say something like 52 out of 40 riders are happy.  2funny
