Offered again at work. I declined, as usual. Boss was po'd. She said 'what about if your kids get sick?' 'Dont have any.' lol 'What if your wife gets sick?' 'Shes not afraid to die either.' So I had to write a reason not to get it. I put 'not afraid to get sick/die.' She didnt like that answer to well. She said I will have to get it if they make it mandatory next year. I guess NY made it mandatory. She then asked my partner if she was getting it and my partner said no. Boss bout had a MI there in the kitchen. lol Its part of the job if you get sick. I cant tell you how many times we've (partner and I) been highly exposed by the HIV, Hep, and other stuff. Last time I got the flu shot, It made me sick.

I got side effects from my flu shot this year... first time for side effects ever for me... got it on
a Tuesday, and was all sore and bleary-eyed while on family vacation in W. Va. on Thursday and
Friday... I remember having the flu one year, it was awful, I wouldn't have gotten out of bed if the
house was on fire...

Got it for the first time in my life this year (Did the nasal thing). I got sick as a dog for several days afterward. However, with 4 month old preemie triplets in the house and RSV season upon us, it really was necessary for me...

I get it because I don't buy into the hysteria surrounding flu-shots and vaccinations. I leave that kind of thing to big-brained people like Jenny McCarthy. Two years ago the company paid for the flu shot and dig a big "flu shot day". Three of the mechanics on the floor declined. All wound up sick that year and one wound up hospitalized for a week (heavy smoker).

Besides which, my wife is a pharmacist and can get the vaccine at work so if I didn't take it willingly she'd just stick me while I'm sleeping.

So did I. With my asthma, the flu made it worse. Would have felt better if I was dead. Hard to breathe. I was almost begging for a tube. Was admitted for 2 days.

Side effects from the flu shot are not actually "the flu". It's your body's reaction to the dead bugs and your immune system kicking into turbo mode for a couple days. Depending on the vaccine manufacturer you may or may not see side effects. You also should not be allergic to eggs.

Then again, it's just as likely that you contracted a common cold from the health care professional who stuck you. These people see hundreds of people a day. Hospitals and doctors offices are THE breeding grounds for disease.

Wonder if that's the case with the mist that I took. It's live, but weakened virus. Didn't help that the #($*)@#$ that administered jammed it up my nose so hard it drew blood. I really think that's what did it for me, instead of getting the inhaled weakened virus like I was suppose to, I got it more or less as a shot since she jabbed it so hard...

Oh well, it's over for now. I've never gotten it before, and probably won't again. No tin foil hat thing for me, I just prefer a 10% (don't know the real odds, just pulled that number out of the same dark place economists pull their forecasts from) chance of getting the flu to a 100% chance of getting the mini-flu for 3 days that I had...

So, I showed up at the General Lewis in West Virginia, my eyes looked like Rudolph's nose,
and I was getting raspy and blah... Friday, I just stayed in the room while everyone else
was out having fun (cable teevee had a NCIS marathon that day  cooldude )... I realized
that the place where I got stuck was sore too, so I googled up "flu shot side effects", and
got this from the CDC...

Mild Problems

    * soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given
    * hoarseness; sore, red or itchy eyes; cough
    * fever
    * aches

If these problems occur, they usually begin soon after the shot and last 1-2 days.

Flu shot Tuesday, blah Thursday and Friday...

I was good-to-go on Saturday...

Reports indicate that this year's flu shot is only effective in 59% of the population.  Normally, it's effective rate is as high as 90%.

I used to only get sick once a year......with the flu......and it'd have me down for 5-7 days.....begging myself to get well soon.....this was in my late teens, early 20's......

I can remember having the flu and rolling around in the floor with severe aches and pains wishing for the pain to end....the vomiting.....chills.....aches were NO joke!!!......

For the last 10 or more years, my work place has offered flu shot,  and I have always taken advantage of them....and they've worked pretty much every year.....

I've been at home sick for the last two days with a severe cold.....probably made worse by the fact that I went to work sick on Monday and then got a flu shot after work.....I think the side effects were pronounced because of me already being under the weather......I had some muscles aches, congestion, HEADACHES, coughing, and bleary eyes that seems to be worse than a "normal" cold, but I never ran a fever or needed to vomit.....it's still better than getting the flu....... cooldude......and I did start feeling better just before lunch......

My doctor tells my wife and I not to get it.  She says the only ones who should get the flu shot is those over 60, under the age of 15 or those with a weakened immune system.  Never got the shot and I never will.  Plus, some vaccines contain blood and with my wife being a Jehovah Witness she will not take the chance.

I got the flu as a kid, not sure I've ever had it as an adult.  Plenty of colds, but not the flu.

The G gave me flu shots for years, and most years I got them, but others I didn't.... but I never got the flu.

Now that I'm retired (live alone) and don't take the Metro (subway) with thousands of hacking, coughing, breathing others, and don't share workspace with thousands of others, I don't even get colds.  So I don't get them anymore.

You want some fun, get a flu, yellow fever, typhoid, DPT, malaria, and other Middle Eastern immunizations all at the same time in both arms.  You don't just get sick, you pass out cold and slobber all over yourself in front of the the whole 15AF Mobility Team.

** Ordinarily, these are spread out over a few weeks, but not when you may get on a plane w/i 24hrs.  (Course we didn't go anywhere).

Then, to add insult to injury, the medicos chastised me saying I was setting a bad example for the others in line.............. WELL EXCUUUUUUSE ME!!!

No flu shot for me either. I avoid crowds and have an immune system.
I did the overseas shots too. WHEW!! That was a hoot. If youve never done em,, ya just havent lived. Once the medico couldnt get the thing to work. I took it from him, stuck myself and did the deed. The Pharmacist Mate passed out. Thats funny because I cant even watch em give a shot on TV shows much to the lovely's delight.

Jenny M. blames vaccination for her child's Autism. The mercury based preservative used in them. It has been disproved and the researcher who started the fiasco was penalized. It is an easy thing to fall into. As a father of an Autistic son, he had his only seizure two days after receiving his MMR vaccination and his speech and language development seemed to stop after that. But that is time that autism symptoms seems to manifest themselves. I'm sorry off the soap box.

there has been talk of the school system requiring children to have a flu shot in our school district.  neither my wife or i like the idea, so i told my wife to just lie.  tell 'em that they had the shot already.  your medical records are strictly confidencial and the school district has absolutely no right to look at your medical records.

just lie to your boss!!  tell her you got one already!!  (and for you church goers, though shall not lie is not one of the ten comandments!  cooldude)

What bugs me about it is that they completely ignore any OTHER data (freaking reams of it) that say vaccinations are perfectly safe while cherry picking the study that supports the pea-brained notion that their child couldn't possibly have anything wrong with them that was either congenital or inherited because they're perfect, beautiful people. A lot of kids were put at serious risk because of bubblehead egotists like her. But yeah, that guy who fed into it should be hung by his thumbs.

Never had the flu until I went to work in a high school with 2250 students. Got the flu the first three years I worked there so I started taking the shots. I have not had the flu since. I would not get the shots if I had a normal job but 190 teenagers go through my classroom everyday. Many are poor and have no health insurance, and many just don't take care of themselves. Some of them are always sick so I will bite the bullet and take the shots while I work here.

I'm among those who thinks that Autism (along with a number of other maladies like ADD and Asperger's) is over-diagnosed. Of course you could argue that fifty years ago real disorders were treated with an ass-whupping and a dose of ignorance. Maybe the rise in the diagnoses of genuine disorders vs. garden variety behavioral problems stemming from a lack of direction and discipline lies somewhere in between. But any number of environmental factors could be contributors to the rise in true disorder cases.
