I realized on my way home today that when going through twisty areas I tend to be a little more comfortable and aggressive on left hand turns than on right hand turns. Weird thing I thought, but figured I'd throw it out there and see if I'm alone or if there's a trend of being more comfortable with turning one way vs. the other... Yeah, the strange things you think of while commuting home from work...

I think it may be that left turns (where you drive on the right, like here) are easier because of a longer radius. Also, the throttle hand is more comfortable when the arm is extended as opposed being tighter in toward the body as on a right turn. Just my $.02

I like right handers, i'm left handed, I assume you are right handed. My theory is I'm more comfortable pulling with my dominant hand. Hey, it's as good as any other reason. Watch the responses, My hunch is the totals will reflect the statistics of the odds of being born left handed, with a lot more riders prefering left hand turns. About 5 to 1, about the same as the numbers in the righties vs lefties birth rate. hoser

Right; I'm right-handed though. In my case I suspect a vague unease about running out of pavement in a left turn, if I didn't lean her enough. As opposed to right - where there's room for error (if there isn't oncoming traffic, that is).

I'm left handed and am more comfortable with left turns. I think I agree with ricoman about the position of the "throttle wrist" being the reason.

Most everyone has a side they are more comfortable with. When I started teaching I realized my right side was my worst so I worked on right hand turns so much it is now my favorite side. One thing to memember; with crowned roads right curves are evelated toward the inside of the curve a few degrees so they are in fact easier. Conversely, Left hand turns have the road sloping away from the turn so things drag quicker and there is less traction available. Dubs

I like Right because I can take a line that goes closer to the inside of turn. On Left turns I am more concerned about a driver coming the opposite direction veering over into my lane so I don't get as close to the inside of the turn.

I am right handed. I prefer left hand turns but for a bizarre reason. Many years ago I lost most of the feeling on the left side of my body. Subconsciously I have always thought if I was going to go down in a curve I would prefer going down on the side that would hurt less. People who follow me say I lean much further on left hander’s than right hander’s.

Any kind of oval racing is almost always turning left. In my younger, dirtbike days I had a dirt oval in our field. I got where I could power slide, or dirt drift all the way around it going left. I found out one day that I never developed the same skills turning right.
The road is different. My pegs seem equally scrapped on both sides.

At speed, I don't really care. At slow speed I had trouble with left hand turns, so I did a LOT of lefties during PLP. So much so, that I'm actually more comfortable with them now.

I used to prefer one over the other......cant really remember which it was I preferred. Once I realized I felt more comfortable turning one way or the other, I made darned sure I turned, leaned and practiced the "off" side until it was as comfortable as the other. So now it makes no nevermind and I cant even remember for sure but I think I prefered the left turns back then

Right handed, left turns are more natural to me. Also noticed this when learning to ski; hockey stops are simply controlled skids while turning left, NEVER right (same as ice skating). Less noticeable on a bicycle, but still there.

I'm right handed, but prefer right hand turns. As I tend to hug the line on the inside of any curve, right hand curves don't have as many other vehicles approaching at high speed six inches away from me as left hand curves. If I ever train myself to be comfortable in the middle of the lane, lefties will be more fun cause you can go faster on lefties. And like Smokin Joe; I prefer uphill curves over downhill, blind curves. Especially in the rain...
Also, I prefer to push the bars into turns, rather than pulling, and the cigarette is usually in my left hand (coffee cup as well, as the holder is on the left engine block) so rights are preferred. Once the cruise control is installed, this may all prove moot. Rights for now (I KNOW my rights!). Fred.

I'm left handed and I like right turns much better, especially at slow speeds. As I aged, the feeling is even stronger. I think it's partly because My left hand feels cramped in lefties and partly because I'm aware that I'm turning against the camber of the road. This wouldn't apply to left curves and sweeps as they are banked (normally) . ,
In a related subject, I always thought that the increased wear on the LEFT side of the rear tire is due to the camber of the road (we're talking motorcycle tires here). No, it's due to the increased travel leaned over (radius) in left turns. Right turns are less. Our English friends should see the opposite.
Not my opinion or fact, but it seems logical.

This has been interesting to me at least. I don't dislike right turns, I'm just more comfortable in hard lefts, and tend to take 'am a little faster and more aggressively. The southpaw vs. right handed riders breakdown is also interesting. I have no preference, and had never thought about it. I'm sure I will think about it now! Thanks Serk! (is it still tongue awareness month?) No, tongue awareness month was back in June. This is blink awareness month, and get ready for December, conscious breathing awareness month. Serk, I have a preference for the left turns also. (I'm right hand dominant.)

Right hand turns. Crowned roads where I live. With no traffic I like to put the tire next to the line till the last second and dive. Guard rail never moves so I don't mind hugging it. I also have a tendency to pull not push the bars in a turn so I'm kinda hanging from my left hand. ???
