I just purchased a motorcycle lift. Is the adapter I have seen on the board nessasary, for my '99 standard, or can I use the lift without it? Why should I use it? Thanks.

and I thought my jokes were funny. Seriously, though, if you do eventually decide to get an adapter be sure to tie a ribbon (like the kind they have for disc locks) to the adapter to remind you to remove it before you ride off in the sunset.

The adapter provides a proper place for your lift to mate to your bike... There's a kind of "stays on the bike" adapter that solves the dangerous "I forgot to remove the adapter before I rode off" problem. I got one of those after I scared the [bleep] out of myself by riding 50 miles through the mountains with the forgotten adapter hanging down there... -Mike

I have this adapter on both my wife's 97 Tourer and my 99 IS. Jack Adapter Works very well!! I only place 2x4s on the surface of the jack and lift away. If you don't want to spend that kind of money...take a look at this option... Low Tech Jack AdapterJoe

That low tech lift adapter works like a charm. You just might have enough material laying around in your shed/garage/basement/spare room to build it. And don't forget some 1 inch ratchet straps once you have your gal in the air on the lift. :uglystupid2:RIDE SAFE.

I just mounted the same lift adapter that Joe has shown above. Can't believe the difference it makes with the fat lady up in the air. There is no possible way that this adapter could cause an issue with leaving it on permanently.

I have the above adapter. It doesn't work if you have a centerstand. It is new. I never mounted because I have a Rivco Centerstand. $40 shipped if anybody needs it.

Mine wouldn't do right because I have BigBF quad horns, so I put a slot in the adapter... I guess there's more stuff in the way with a centerstand, ... -Mike

The centerstand mounts where the lift adapter mounts. So it's one or the other. You can't mount both. Someone will chime in if I'm wrong.

do you have an audio file for the quad horns?Nope... I looked on his site, didn't see one there. They have a good/authoritative sound, and they are loud. They can beep people on I85 in Atlanta back over into their own lanes -Mike

I had a Rivco Centerstand on my bike for a little while right when i got it. I would use the centerstand bracket with one 2x4 placed under it to lift my bike (still using the 2 - 2x4s under the motor). I have since sold my centerstand and went to the jack adapter. An added plus, the adapter bracket makes a great spot for mounting things like horns. Joe

I have the stays on bike adapter. I use a piece of 12"x18" 3/4 plywood board that I use with it so I can move the jack fore or aft of the adapter. And yeah, I've learned to take speed bumps carefully because of it. Fred.

The home made wooden plan on this site work like a charm. Light weight easy to make and very solid. I had the wood in my garage total cost ZERO. One strap across the middle 2 straps to the hiway pegs rachet down ready to go

pics are more descriptive. Below, from Sodbuster from this earlier thread. I don't happen to have this type of stay-on-bike adapter, but on the same thread some people mentioned that it only weighs in at two pounds or around there. Also, with a wooden adapter, I think the versions with a horizontal cross-brace bridging the two uprights makes it stronger. Whether, it's plywood or a 2-by. The reason I say this is that end grain (in the two uprights) don't provide much holding power for fasteners, nails or screws. Avoid using drywall screws which have little shear strength and are brittle. Dowels or mortices would be overkill but at least smear some wood glue betweem the different parts. And yea, still no work from the carpenter's hall yet.

With a black jack scissors lift??. I now have a lift table and the black jack scissor lift for on the table..Q-can I still use my low tech adaptor that I have been using for several years now, the 2 x 4 material one, ( will it fit between the bike and the blackjack jack ) or will I have to make a new one with a 1 x bottom plate . Thanks In adv. Paul.

Only way to tell is stick it in there and lift her. You need SOMEthing at the back of the jack or it doesn't touch the bike. The front arm of the jack lifts square at the bottom of the engine. Fred.

Doc, I bought a bolt on from Hoghead in East Texas. I have a 99 I/S with a centerstand. Hoghead built this one and helped me bolt it on. It works great. The centerstand stays on the bike and it works as it should. I've had it in the air a couple of times without use of wooden blocks. No problems whatsoever
