I am in the process of converting my 2001 Interstate to a solo.
A new seat from a different brand of bike has been installed, and a luggage rack added.
The luggage rack is off a Honda Shadow VT750 Aero 750 and only required slight alterations.
This was bought from Bestem on E Bay.
The trunk has also been modified for quick release by modifying the holes in the side mounts where they attach to the frame.
Details of the procedure were found on this site.
However I wish to retain the radio aerial while it is set up as a solo and therefore need to fabricate a new mounting bracket for when the trunk and brackets have been removed.
Has anyone gone through this process who could provide advice.
A photo would be of help.
I can be contacted direct at   littleford@hotkey.net.au  .

on the bottom of the page there is an antenna for $40 US Dollars

He is also working on a combo antenna for those who have a CB and only want one antenna to control both radio and CB

I made a bracket using 1"x1"x 1/8"  aluminum angle from the hardware, that mounts to the two bolts on the sissy bar/ luggage rack bracket.  I cut and bent it to a right angle, then I  cut another small piece of the aluminum angle to use to box in bent section, drilled three holes and used the chrome antenna cover over the boxed angle.

Polished and waxed the aluminum, looks great.

I'm in the middle of a similar project and plan to go with a hidden antenna.  Take a look at this post.

I mounted a 12in black rubber antenna between the fender and the saddlebag and it work perfectly and is almost invisible.

Per Chips find, I went this route.  Permanent, not seen and no need for a special bracket.  Works well.  I mounted mine against the inside front of the fairing.

For what it's worth,

I went with the hidden antenna route, purchased one that was made for inside a motorcycle fairing, said it was great, etc, etc.

I am now looking to replace it with a more traditional antenna.  The reception just isn't what I want, or am used to having in a car.  Stations fade in and out that are very close to me.

Just my 2 cents but I would (will) avoid the hidden type of antennas from now on.  YMMV.
