Those of you that carry openly or concealed, what are your methods of doing so.?
I had thought maybe a shoulder strap, or a tank bib large enough to cary my XD. I just figured it wouldn't be comfortable on the hip for a certain amount of miles. Also I am a little nervous that I would lose it, that would be bad news.

Usually, mine is in the trunk, propped to draw easily. I rarely shoot from a moving motorcycle.

5 shot .357 inside belt holster, tank bag when riding, tank bag locked in saddlebag when not carrying. That's what I would do if I carried! Hoser

Yeah, it's dorky looking, and a dead giveaway to anyone In The Know, but I carry in a fanny pack while I'm riding. That way it's secured (Always worried about an IWB weapon popping out while I'm riding) and, if I find it necessary to get to it while on the bike, I can do so quickly and easily.

There are several t shirts, vests and jackets that would work well if I chose to carry. A jacket from Fox Creek will even keep your firearm safe in an accident, if I carried one.

Carry in a tank bag when on the road along with wallet, phone, iPod, glasses, etc. then lock the tank bag in the saddle bags when off the bike or if at a place where it is legal just take the tank bag in with me.

I have a gun safe I used all the time I was an LEO. Gun went in there when I got off of work and staid there till I went back on duty.
NEVER carried when on the bike on a trip, in 50 years of riding, I never had an occasion to pull a gun or shoot one.

40 is on my hip in a paddle holster. TCP in my vest, sometimes in my boot. If I'm wearing my bibs, in the side pocket or the chest pocket. Kit will usually keep hers in the saddle bag during trips but around home its on her hip. Going thru Ill I follow FOPA. But once I stop its on my hip. If I happen to get separated from the bike, I really want my gun 'by' me. My paddle has a strap so I'm not worried about it falling out. All I could find since I'm left handed. Kits revolver stays put in her Fobus.

Rarely carry on the bike. When we do, a small pocket auto is indicated. Currently, that is a Diamondback DB9, but the little thing is so violent in recoil that we are considering making a change. A 13oz pistol launching 9mm ordnance is no fun to shoot.
We trudge on.

If I were gonna carry on the bike .... KelTec PF9 , IWB cross draw for comfort and ease of access while in riding position. Colt 1911 custom with 3" bbl, shoulder rig under jacket when the weather calls for heavier gear in winter. A weapon locked or stored away will do no good when a quick response is needed ... if it isn't a quick response situation then a weapon should be avoided anyway. Thats just my opinion in the event I were inclined to carry

You have to practice to stay proficient !!! I have to admit, that's something I've always wanted to try. Some targets setup where I could ride by (slowly) and shoot. I've got access to a gravel pit but it's not very "valk friendly".

Taurus 745 .45 cal 6+1 w/an extra mag inside the waist band High Noon Holster appendix carry position while I ride my Valkyrie. The barrel is only 3.25 inches. That way I don't have to worry about my jacket or shirt blowing up in the back from the wind.
Ruger P345 .45 cal 8+1 w/extra mag inside the waist band holster @ 3:30 position for the rest of the time.
It's awesome if you've never needed your weapon. I carry 100% of the the time and I pray I NEVER have to "need" mine. I have 6 beautiful daughters & step daughters and 9 beautiful grand kids, I carry so I can protect them... An armed society is a polite society...

Hey, MarkT, according to your signature pic, you were awful cute in 1970. Thumper was nice too. Hoser Yeah I put on some weight, and hair greyed up some. And it's long again, after years of short in the service and corporate worlds. Wish I still had Thumper but I plowed it into a Buick at 70 that turned in front of me, later that year. First time I went down HARD - but not the last. Still have great legs and ass...

I carry several ways on the bike for long rides I will usually use the belt pouch listed below from fleebay, it sits nicely while on the bike, and looks like a camera case to the average person, and my Keltec PF-9 fits perfectly. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170692615751&category=73966&ssPageName=ADME:B:SEMK:US:SHOWI&emailtemplateid=41141151&sellerid=zTpVD1PmK5ItgTgwHM1WhA==&buyerid=FpRekKD1aqApmSTTlj5RPg==&refid=storeI also wear these type of T-shirts, in fact I found (can't remember where) the company that makes the actual gun pouch for most of these shirts, I ended up buying them for about $12 to $15 (IRC) and my wife sewed them on the some of my T-shirts, they work great in hot weather with a loose Hawaiian type shirt over it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CONCEALMENT-T-HOLSTER-T-SHIRT-WHITE-/270794378267?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item3f0c9a4c1bI also wear this vest when it is not really hot out, paid much less for it from The Sportsmans Guide, it is a really nice vest, holds the gun very securely. http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Stone-Safety-OLIVE-CONCEALMENT/dp/B004O5LDJOOnce in a while, depending on what pants I am wearing, I will just put it in my pocket. Hopefully, you don't have to pull it that often! I have heard 'range time' is no fun. But, if you don't like it.. I might be interested. I currently have it's little brother, the DB380.

i've been in a car accident, so yes i have insurance for that, yes, i've had a flat, don't carry a spare with the cycle though (and a cycle tire is harder to find in a small town). i had a guy break into our business after hours once, i had a gun then, it was the ONLY time i had to use it, even though had i just yelled at the kid, it would have worked just as well...... i'm just saying that in most cases you don't need to carry a gun, so why have something "more" to worry about?

I had a conversation with a co-worker once... a little Jewish grandmotherly type and can't remember how we got on the topic to begin with, but she made the comment, "Oh, I'm terrified of guns!" to which I replied, Susan, "Why are you terrified of an inanimate object? Are you terrified of cars? More people die in cars than from gunshots... wouldn't it make more sense to be scared of bad drivers and criminals, not the objects they use?" She replied, "Well, okay, that makes sense but I just can't imagine why anyone would ever want a gun!" So I asked her, "Do you have a fire extinguisher in your kitchen?" (I knew she would) and of course she said yes. Then I asked, "Well, have you ever actually had a fire in your kitchen?" She answered, "Well... no." To which I responded, "Well then why do you bother to have a fire extinguisher if in all your years in the kitchen (she's around 70) you've never had a fire?" She gave the obvious answer, "Well, JUST IN CASE." I spread my arms, nodded my head and said, "EXACTLY! That's the very same reason some people choose to carry a gun." She was silent for a moment and said, "Wow, I've never thought about it that way."
All the comparisons are valid... insurance, spare tires, extra food during hurricane season, pretty much anything that we prepare for but hope like hell we never actually experience.

A small gun such as the Ruger LCP in a pouch will fit under the seat in place of the maintenance manual. Out of site, out of mind, unless you get stranded out in a deserted area .
