What is there to talk about.  Demand is up a little elsewhere, people are scared of the [enter middle east country name] thing, and speculators are speculating...  Same thing different year.

Demand will pull back some, prices will follow some....

Last time when prices went up, it was all Bush's fault.

Of course, NONE of it is now Hussain's fault!!  What a joke!

I just get mad when the government that should regulate gas prices stop speculation on the market just sits there and lets the people get the shaft all the time. Yet we will watch Exxon profits post another tremendous jump in profit all the time hearing well there's nothing we can do. If people just let this go then they will feel free to keep up this garbage. Led like lambs to the slaughter.

Why should government regulate gas prices any more than they should any other commodity?

It's often government interference in a particular market that fouls things up to start with... and then people buy into the "it's the evil, greedy oil company's fault."  This despite the fact that oil industry profit MARGINS are relatively meager. They make billions because it's a mega billion dollar industry, NOT because the margins are high. http://mjperry.blogspot.com/2011/05/oil-profit-margin-ranks-114-out-215.html

What needs to happen is our grand imperial federal gubmint needs to stop impeding our domestic energy producers from producing. It makes me ill to see BHO trying to take credit for an increase in domestic oil production when it's PRIVATE industry is managing to produce ... in SPITE of his administration throwing every possible barrier up.

I dont disagree with you entirely but the speculators drive the prices up for one this should be stopped and two if you look Exxon profits have never gone down but have in many cases doubled.
revenue rose to $125.3 billion from $95.3 billion in the year-ago quarter, the company said.
HOUSTON—Exxon Mobil Corp. on Thursday said its third-quarter earnings surged about 41% despite a drop in production as it continued to benefit from climbing oil prices and stronger refining margins.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203554104577001523057007892.html
All this coupled with the billions in tax breaks these companies receive and they say if pulled will lead to lower production as a veiled threat. So yes I am not for goverment control but the regulation of these areas alone would go along way in helping the US.

I kinda agree with you but I think its a great way to see the apathy of all of us to take the reasons for the stuff that hits us rather than fighting back. Kinda like a dip stick on the bike when the oil gets low. You dont just let it go and say that its just going to go low again so why fill it. All we need to do is accept this is the way it is and it will be the way it is. All it takes is us/US to let those in Washington know that its not them but us that is in control. How do we do this one outraged citizen at a time. Thats really all the lobbyists are special interests pay people to bend the politicians ear well call do something or just complain to a neighbor.

Oh SE about those other people yep you are right, but Saudi Arabia still has the production ability to keep up with demand. Plus the US if allowed has enough reserves to keep it going independently for say at least another 200 years without the drilling of all the protected areas. The Iranian oil accounts for only a small percentage of oil not really worth mentioning that the Saudis have already signaled they willingly will make up for. Also how about the oil in Iraq or some other places we have poured money into why dont we get some of that investment back rather than just the oil companies and private companies. Under Saddam Iraq was one of the top oil producers and how can we go into a coutry supposedly turn it around our men die there spend trillions of dollars and we get nothing back and the country kicks us out. We dont show the Iraqis how to make their economy  to work so all benefit. So as I hear you talk more and more I know that you are in the same pack as the politicians and  have the same makeup.
Plus the way supply side economics work is that when the demand is high and supply is short then prices go up. There is a consistency there. But when to many have their hands in the till it happens differently prices stay level till some anticipated activity happens then they raise prices and when things go back to normal they lower the prices again. Or may try to keep prices at a inflated level till so they make more money like Exxon and other companies. Do we have a embargo? Did the ships stop pulling into port? Did the Saudi run out of oil? Did the estimates of the remaining oil change? Has the US reserves had to be used to avert a National problem? OH there are so many more questions like has the Saudis stopped taking US dollars to pay for oil?

Supply and demand works fine if you keep the politicians completely away from it.  When government tries to regulate ANYTHING  it goes to crap.

Stop whining that congress should give you gas for  " A Dollah " unless you really think Obama is gonna pay your rent too!

In just a little less than a month here in the Ozarks our gasoline prices(all grades)have gone up .30 .35 cents a gallon. Took a short ride today and took notice of 3.499 a gallon. I would tell that "energy czar" i don't live in europe and don't need to pay the prices they do. Course you KNOW how much good that would do. uglystupid2 RIDE SAFE-even though it's gonna cost WAY MORE. 2funny

Unfortuantely if we did drill, drill, drill and produce more "home grown" oil the rest of the global oil producers would cut back on their production. Why flood the market and lower prices?

All of you with a pension you contribute to OR if retired take money from need to take a look at which companies your pension fund is invested in.

There's a very strong chance it has millions of $ invested in oil / gas companies. Some at home, some abroad.

If you are willing to tell your fund manager to stop investing in these companies and they do (unlikely) maybe (unlikely) oil / gas prices will come down.

I do notice travelling around that their is one obvious disparity with pump prices. Here in GA during the last gas price run up in 2008 under George (it was his fault remember) gas suddenly developed a 15c per gas grade increase.

There are some states where it is still a 10c grade increase.

Market forces at play. If they charge it and consumers keep on buying it.................................

I will agree that hearing the Federal Govt tell the people of America that we don't pay enough at the pump sucks. What business is it of theirs?

4.13 a gallon in my area ridiculous.
$5.oo for a 12oz coffee must be even more ridiculous then.

Afterall the Coffee companies didn't spend billions finding the coffee
Drilling for Coffee
Building pipelines for coffee
Using vast amounts of other energy refining the coffee into other usable products.
All while paying the highest of 1st world wages to its employee's

Also there is no eco-war being raged coffee.
The EPA does not place higher and higher demands for the refinement of cleaner coffee with a longer and longer list additives to be put in coffee.

And theres not much to talk about when it comes to taxing coffee by the different levels of Government.

Maybe $4.13 a gallon isnt so ridiculous afterall.
