risers question

I'm looking at getting the Aero Mach risers (part AM-4190C also known as Lamonster risers), but it looks like it will take another 4 to 6 weeks for Aero Mach to make a set. The original reason for the risers was the 1.25" of pullback without having to change any cables. Has anyone successfully installed a different set of risers that are perhaps more readily available?

Yep, Harley Deuce pullback risers is what I put on the wife's trike. No modification necessary, but remember, hers is raked 6° so the everything is moved slightly back because of that as well.

I also bought a set of adaptor studs, can't remember from where. They were SAE threads on the side that screwed in the riser and metric thread on the triple tree side; was able to use the OEM metric nuts.

The aeromach risers are worth the wait....be patient, it's a half hour job once you get them.

When I changed out my handlebars to Volusia bars (I liked the hand position better) I also installed HD deuce risers.     
1-1/4" thick, 6" rise and 2" pullback.  They also came with 1/2" spacer (bought them from an individual on the Volusia site) that was made for the risers, if I remember correctly the risers have a shoulder on the bottom.  So it was a 6-1/2" rise.  This set up fits me well and is very comfortable.

The deuce knockoffs (no reason to pay HD for theirs) require you to drill a few thousandths out of the riser bolt holes thru the trees if you are using the supplied bolts (no big deal, a very small amount of material is shaved off, and you can go back to metric anytime, no problem)(if you can find the adapter studs mentioned above, this step is deleted), they come with a raised ring of metal on the bottom which must be cut or ground off (again no big deal).  And they will require some longer brake and throttle cables/hoses (the OE throttle cables may work if rerouted inside the trees).  I have them and they are great, but they are not no mod bolt-ons.

The LaMonster/Aeromach are no mod bolt-ons (except you need to turn the plastic wire keepers on the back of the handlebars around 180*).  They are not as tall as the deuce, but a great improvement over stock, and the most movement you can get in a straight bolt on.  

The stock risers are 3 1/8" tall.  Most aftermarket risers for cruisers are 4" tall (and because they mount on an angled tree, taller means more pullback).

The next best/tallest risers you can get (for function not looks) are HDLs own in-house Cycle House risers which are 4 1/4" tall.  I don't know why, but the picture has been removed from their site as has the description of the part.  And they used to be about $65 (last time I looked).  They are now listed at $110.

Bought these riser extensions on E-Bay & bolted them on the '99. I have the Aeromach/Lamonster risers on my '97 & the extensions feel very close in rise and pullback. Neither required longer cables.




I paid about $50 back a year or so ago. Very happy with them.

You might check HDL aftermarket parts.  I just got my LaMonsters from them a week ago.  HDL was also cheaper than buying direct from AeroMach.

Don't believe their "Free Shipping" BS, though.  At check-out, they charge a $7.50 HANDLING charge, where when you buy anything else from them it's a $7.50 SHIPPING charge with no HANDLING fee!

Thanks for bringing these to the conversation, ptgb.  The adapter studs are from Baron Customizing.  I have them on my bike, too, and they are great.

Paul at Aero Mach found a set to send me. They arrived on Monday. Got them installed. They look very nice. Went for a short ride today. What a difference! No longer reaching with arms straight. Arms are now comfortably bent. They were worth the wait.

Hey guys, this is Paul @ Aeromach.  We do have some AM-4190C risers in stock. There was a box on the shelf of unpackaged products.  While I was in Daytona no  one found the box!

As for Lamonster, they are not Aeromach.  Only Aeromach is Aeromach, there have been some knockoffs (ripoffs) over the years when the old owners were winding down.

Thanks for the info, Paul.  I couldn't figure out this connection/nonconnection between Aeromach and Lamonster.  If you google Lamonster risers, it will take you to Honda Direct Line (HDL), who markets their risers as Lamonster.  I ordered Lamonster risers from HDL, and received Aeromach.  Looking at pictures, I couldn't tell the difference.  Looking at old posts, it's common for people to refer to them as "Lamonster/Aeromach."  So I guess I still don't know what's up, except I got some risers, and I like them, no matter what you call them.

They are either perfectly or nearly identical. 

There is a longstanding argument about who's came first.  I think Aeromach made them first, and LaMonsters (HDL) initial copy did not cover the riser holes entirely, then that was remedied.   It doesn't really matter to us end-users.  They are good risers for Valk.
