Heres the situation: New girlfriend doesnt like to ride much, but will ride every now and then. Even on short rides she complains about but and inside of thighs hurting the next day. NOw i have very comfortable seats (Mustang Tourers) and i think she is simply not interested in riding and using her ass as an excuse . Sooooo.....my question is.....what lil mind tricks can i get to get her to enjoy the ride more???? i know there are some of you out there that started with other halfs that didnt like to ride........cmon....share some wisdom......

see if she's interested in her own ride. when i rode with my husband, i never completely enjoyed it 'cause i'm, admittedly, a control freak. so, ask her if she'd be interested in riding her own bike and see what her reaction is. my 2 cents.

Agree Mustangs like Corbins are not suitable for lotsa folks. Although I would put Corbin way ahead. I would try to find some buds that have the different types, to include Ultimate, and switch out for a trial run. Good place to do this is at a gathering, like GOTFs or Inzane. Cold be like you suspition she is just not into bikes, but the only way you will know for sure is to try all the different approaches. Nothing more miserable than a seat that doesnt fit your ass, and it is more common than you think.

bribery, pure and simple. Promise her nice meal at the halfway point of the ride - may work magic. Plus maybe a foot massage when you get home-they all like that.

How attached to the "new" girlfriend are you? How attached to the Valk are you? I had a new girlfriend who didnt like to ride. I asked her to be dressed up hot when I got back. She might have been, but at least she didnt take anything when she left. Kinda sexist, I know but the next new girlfriend was a nurse.

Footboards made all the difference for my then girlfriend. She started riding more often and further. Then she married me. She says she loves me, but I think she's in it for the footboards.

Hmmmm....all good answers. New girl is outta the question because the notes are paid on this one. i have cobra floorboards already for rider as well as passenger. thinkin maybe a gel seat. local rides with the "boys" she doesn't go on.....its the couples two day rides that i want her on. aint no fun going on long rides and have to share rooms with another solo rider when i got a squeeze that could be with me..

Buy her a convertible and let her follow you... But don't make the mistake I made and refer to her red car as your "Big Red Saddlebags"!
Other option is to just let her fly most of the way to whatever destination you're riding to.
If she's not comfortable on the bike, she's just not gonna be happy riding along with you, IMHO, no matter how hard you try...

Some good arm rests might help. It will give her some leverage to move some and relieve pressure. It might also help her relax and enjoy the ride it she feels more secure in the seat. Made all the difference in the world for my wife.

what lil mind tricks can i get to get her to enjoy the ride more???? http://www.viberider.com/On a more serious note, if her inner thighs are sore after riding either she's too tense or she's struggling to maintain foot position the whole time she's on the bike.

Get the Airhawk for butt pain. The thigh pain may be due to not relaxing, fear of falling off, etc. Is there an easy way for you to make her feel more secure; armrests, maybe?

I like this suggestion the most and agree. My wife does not like to ride and no matter how much I talk about it, she just doesn't care to. It took me a long time to realize this, let her do what she likes to do and you do the same. When it is time for us to be together for married people occassions, it a done deal. You can change seats, raise footrest, and any other thing you want, she's not going to enjoy it unless she really like to ride. My wife said if I bought a Goldwing she would ride, because the seats are more comfortable, guess what.

Look at her seated on the bike. Her legs MUST be horizontal. If down toward the knee, she needs higher boards. My wife did.
Take her on short rides, with frequent stops. Do NOT take her on only long rides that are tiring. BAD.
Try to go to events such at GOTF, Inzane, etc. where she can get together with others and socialize. MORE than just riding.
Better seat than Mustang.

Nothing can ruin a nice ride more than knowing your passenger hates it, even though she won't say so.
If you start going riding solo and more often,,, she may change her viewpoint because of many reasons but mostly because of the fact you are alone with other riders and she will not want to be left out.
Stop trying to do more since what you've already done is not resulting in anything in the way of improvement.
I've seen many couples break up because of a motorcycle so if no headway is evident you also might consider selling the bike and keeping your mate.
It all depends upon you and what you want.

yeah.....i think adding armrest or lifting the floorboards will b a waste of time. Maybe some reverse psychology might work. Tell her she can't go and maybe she will want to go out of spite. the little bit that she does ride is because she wants to please me, but i want to try and make it enjoyable and comfortable as i possibly can. i've had ppl tell me that at first their wives/ gf's woulnt even get near a bike,, rode a couple times after much much begging and now love it.

No difference in men and women on this one. I really believe you either like to ride or you don't. It's not something you can acquire a taste for. Sounds like she is tense on the bike. If she has any fear she will not enjoy it. I know several guys who liked the idea of riding, went and bought a bike and now it sits in the garage 95% of the time..... but they happily tell everyone they own a bike. Sounds like you ride alone and if she's ok with that, problem solved. If not, you will have to give up the bike or the gal. Bad situation and I feel for ya Bro.

My wive likes to ride but to make it more enticing I ride to places she like. We will hit several wineries, and she does the "tastings" Usually the scenery is great around the vineyards. Basically incorporate what she likes into the ride.

I had the same issue on the IS. Got new floorboards and raised them. How long are her legs? My issue with the thighs was that my knees were lower then the seat, which put pressure on my thighs. Had the seat custom built by Cowboy, just made the seat area smaller to form just on the cheeks. That made a world of difference. So make sure her knees are at least higher then the seat, and if she could handle that, fix the seat if it still bothers her.

If her legs get sore, every so often have her put her legs up on your knees. Her legs will be straight out and it may help. Kit does this all the time.

I used a sheepskin/wooly on the back of Bob's IS and he has an Ultimate seat! Makes a nice and cushy place for her behind. Or maybe try a covered gel pad. Her thigh problem...well I agree w/Karen. If she doesn't feel secure and is all tensed up, her muscles are gonna hurt. If she is "independent" and is used to making her own way in life, its kinda hard to give up "control" to someone else, that might add to the uneasiness of being on the back. Do alot of short rides till she is more confident. Good Luck!

my wife won't ride with me, period. i thought about getting a sidecar, thinking that she might like that, but the kids thought it was ugly, so now i'm thinking about just making my IS a super Valk and going solo 100% of the time.

Headset communication helped me getting the wife to ride longer. She would get bored sitting back there trying to yell over my shoulder - we both wear full face/modular helmets. Also picked up an Alaskan Fur seat pad for her. The above extended our rides to about 5 hrs max. Then she starts grumbling for about 5 minutes and then radio silence. That's when I know it's time to end the ride.... I'm trying to talk her into going to Americade this year. That's 11 hrs on the superslab or 17 hrs the back way. I don't think she'd be into going for any of the rides up there after that! I may have to trailer the bike up there or leave her at home. Someone mentioned seeing if she wanted her own bike. Bought the wife her own bike last fall which has peaked her interest in riding. She just ordered not one, but two pairs of riding boots and a second jacket. But hey, if that's what it takes to get her riding.... Now I have to get her shopping for chaps
