Looks as if my front is going to be needing replacement soon.

Is putting a back tire mounted on reverse just fine?  I'm guessing it will last longer?  How much longer?

My new rear is an E3.  Any reason to go with same?

Is the correct size 150 80R 17  ?  If I go with a rear on front in reverse, what size?  What are the risks, if any??

From what I hear Avon's will last quite a long time..

That Shinko seems like the lowest priced tire of them all.  About 129 with shipping from MC Store?  What's the handling like?  Wear?  To me most important is ride.......

As I have a new E3 Rear, does it make any sense for an E3 front?? Does it matter?

I'm running a dunlop D404 rear tire (bias ply) on the front and although I don't have many miles on it, I've got to say I love how well it handles. It is mounted reversed, and I am running a car tire on the rear, but in this weekend's ride in heavy winds, rain, snow and hail, not even once did I feel like the handling was any different than dry pavement. SO, I am personally impressed with the tire and it's performance. Oh, I believe it is a 130/90/17. Too lazy to get dressed and go look.

Ok, I've been doing the searches and reading the attached links.....But really can't find out why people mount a rear "backwards".....

I understand a rear has more rubber and will last longer, but why mount it backwards??

has to do how the tire belts are made. there was a post about this a few days ago. metzler FAQ has a good answer.

I'm running conti-go some sites i.e. http://www.americanmototire.com/catalog/index.php?manufacturers_id=691&osCsid=826adef5e7748a86b4289ab8ce7f5337
have it for $100 and using E-3 on rear, posted about this combo and pics in one of the threads I posted. this conti-go is v-rated and puts the speedo 5 mph fast and the ODO spot on for my std.

I did it.

I didn't like it.  I had it on for about 100 miles... and went back to the Metz 880.

To each their own.

Falken Ziex ZE-512 205/65R-16 on the rear, Dunlop D404 130/90-17 bias rear on the front; mounted normally cause I'm more concerned with water shedding in the rain than I am about cap delamination. Dyna beads for balance.

Both Michelin and Metzler say it's OK to put a bias front with a radial rear, but not the other way around.

Rode for two days in light to heavy rain on hiway 19 over Lake Superior from Winnipeg to Sault Ste. Marie last summer and the bike handled it way better than I did. 12,000 miles on the combo and they both still look like new.
