Its very painful the whole circumfrence around my lower abdomen and small of back.........so Imon morphene and vicoden and a a muscle relaxer......still hurts but only wheni try to move.

Gonna need a new bike.....back wheel bent up all to heck and seat and handle bars bent too

Hate to hear that - been hauling my bike around in the bed of my truck for about the past three weeks, waiting for my knees to get better so's I can ride again. I read that, if my muscles hurt, to exercise them - but, if it's joints leave them alone 'till they feel better. Now the guys at breakfast are raggin' me cause I unloaded the bike and loaded up two chairs! (meaning to take them down to the boat but keep forgetting to....)

Here I've been thinkin about dusting off the old Puch and getting some new tires and doin a little excersize.  But it looks like those bicycles are downright dangerous, so I guess I'll hold off.

A broke tailbone has got to suck. I would think it would hurt laying or sitting....does it? Hope you get to feeling better soon. Maybe you should take up a safer hobby like skateboarding or skydiving.

It's not the bike that threw you. Seems your technique needs some refining.  Sad Remember to keep the pedal and your foot up on the side you're turning to. But then you know that, and that's the worst kind of pain - self inflicted. Hope you heel quickly. I've been using my new bike every morning and LOVE IT! That plus watching what I eat (Weight Watchers) has allowed me to loose 45 pounds since January! cooldude

Hey CZUCH..........did you park the pickup at the top where the weather station is or at the parking lot 4 miles down where the scary road starts?  Just wanted to know.....because that last (or first) 4 miles is some hairy stuff coming down..........if you let off on the brakes you are instantly going way too fast, but if you dont let off on the brakes they melt and then you have no brakes..........but its a hoot!

Really do hope you get to feeling better soon.  Reading the above made me wonder though, could a rider's attitude or inclination as described above be an indication of that same rider's proclivity to be involved in other accidents?  Surely not.  Wink   Get well soon.

Thanks...I do feel better today

an answer though

dont ride=0 chance of falling

ride in protected zones....nice new smooth bike paths=little chance of falling

ride very slow and careful= little chance of falling

Ride for exercise and you are going to go a tad faster.........couple that with mixing it up with cars, pedestrians, potholes, and other hazzards and the chances go up.

40 years of riding and this is the first 10 speed wreck.  I have ridden the Canyons in SoCal.  A volcano in Hawaii and the hills and mountains of New Mexico and a 100 mile race in Texas.  Yes, I have taken my share of chances but its what I want from the experience...........a work out, some adrenalin rush and a feeling of accomplishment.........my stats are acceptable to me so far...........but that doesnt change the fact that this one was MY FAULT  I do feel dumb about it already

I went back and looked at the "crime scene"  And after my wifes son looked at the back wheel....it became clear....I didnt crash because the pedal struck the ground......the pedal stuck the ground because the back wheel gave out....it "sprung" and caused an unrecoverable problem.  In fact the pedal that hit the ground was the left one, and I was turning right so technically I had the pedal thing right..........I feel less dumb (thats the good news)

I had to go back to the hospital for more troubles and they found that not only did I break the tail bone, there is a compression fx at T-11.  They also found a lesion on my pelvise and inlarged lymphnodes and a spot on my lung (bad news)

So several more doctors appointments to go this week and next week

More later

Sorry, I actually meant it to be funny - stating the obvious.  Embarrassed  Obviously, I've had a bunch of stupid , self inflicted crap happen to me in my lifetime. Hence the comment about self inflicted pain.

I hope you are healing (or have healed). There are lots of hills in in Connecticut, and even though it;s a thrill coming down, the speeds are scary, and sh*t could go wrong at any time.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope the other possible problems discovered during exam turn out to be nothing. As for the bike wreck, everyone knows if you ride anything on two wheels you must have a death wish.2funny Sounds like your cause was equipment failure and there's not much you can do about that. Don't sweat it, things happen, just heal quickly and don't push too hard to to get back in the normal groove. With the injuries you have, if you don't let it heal completely it can lead to much more serious problems down the road. Best Wishes, Hef

+1 on what Hef said.

I've been riding bikes like most since a youngster and never have scrapped pegs like Smokin Joe does although on a bicycle enough to cause a flip.  I thought all along these postings that it be very rare to have a peg catch on the ground while cornering.  Not too many people can lean a bicycle over enough to catch a pedal and flip you off.  Either way, heel up and take care.

Chris, From the top baby!! I was stationed there in the Navy (!!) in the 70's and it was a regular thing. None of had girlfriends and were too busy having fun to sweat that. We went into the weeds more than alot of times. Once I almost made it to the road on a switch back, then that vindictive tree just had to get in the way. Ten speeds still there.
We were traipsing around up there one day and found a plane. We really freaked out because the folks were still in there. It was quite unnerving. Whole nother story there.

*UPDATE*  As already reported....all the other crud turned out to be not scary.......Dr cleared me to ride again if Im careful so I bought a new bike today.  Got one just like Valkahuna..........straight up riding position (my Dr requied that), and shocks on the front forks and the seat post.  What am I going to do with 21 speeds but hey at least if I need to go up the side of a bulding there IS A GEAR FOR THAT!!!!!

Went for a little break in ride today and love it............soft and gushy ride compared to my old "hard tail" 10 speed

Chris...

The tailbone will/might be an issues from now on.... I know Firsthand! Something to do with a very tall train trestle and a lower than normal river...... and beer... and Jack...... oh to be young and dumb again....

That was 20 plus yeas ago... make sure they do what ever you have to do to let it heal straight if possible.... mine healed crooked and I have trouble sitting for long periods of time or short periods on certain chairs.... but then mine was a severe break... literally could not do much or  even walk for 2 weeks... couldn't sit down for a month or so.. even with a "donut"

I have to modify all my seats.... motorcycle, snowmobile, Lazy Boy, and car (when possible) to sit for any length of time...  Lets not even discuss plane flights... I bring a donut... but only works for a while...

On the Valk, I have a modified 99 standard seat that has barely any foam under my tail bone..... takes all the pressure off and I can ride for hours without much problems....

Just sayin',,, make sure you do what is recommended to make sure it heals right or riding (and other things) could become an issue.......

Get Better!

Brad

Someone was saying they were thinking of getting a bike.  Well here is my recomendation.  I had a 10 speed that was set up for speed.  To get a workout I had to go faster than I really needed to (that added to the severity of my "incident")

You can get one of these babies that has lower gears so you can get the same workout at a slower speed.......makes so much sense its stupid.  I also like the upright riding position (I thought I would not like it) but since my doctor made me promise....I kept my word.  Wider seat and shocks.....even the seat post has a shock absorber

All this makes it more cofortable and safer....oh and strong shorter aluminum wheels that cant tweak like the old 27" steel ones.

Im a happy camper all around
