I've drove up to this car dealers lot twice this morning only to turn around and leave. I know I don't need and really can't affort ( 4 ) bikes if the truth be known. Man this is a sweet low-mile ( 12,000 miles ) Wing and I've always loved this color on the Goldwing. Dude that own's it own's the car lot and is close to 80 years old so the bike is'nt hurt and when I talked to them on the phone the re-calls have been taken care of.Been on my mind all morning and I'm still working on talking myself out of going and getting it  Undecided  I've fished with one of the longtime salesman and can do " ALITTLE " better than the asking price.

If that's one of the years where there was a recall regarding needing the frame welds being touched up, I'd walk away from it. Do some research on how well the fixes were handled...

(Or for that matter, PM Hotglue about that issue, I'm sure he'll fill you in.)

That's just it a Goldwing is like a Harley if you've seen one you've seen them all . The main reason I love the Valkyrie is you don't pass one at every turn. I'd have a hard time getting rid of the fat girls and damn sure would'nt part with one of them to own either a Goldwing or Harley so I'd have ( 4 ) bikes in the garage.

Bikes had two re-calls one for frame and the other for brakes and both have been done by the local Honda / Yamaha dealer.

Joe,

If you can afford it, do it.  Life is short and opportunities come and go if you don't jump on them.  If you get it and don't like it or decide you just don't need 4 bikes, get rid of it.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained.   cooldude

Just do it Daddy, I'll be purchasing one as soon as my school is done. Yeller is the best color out there next to the blue. I love my valk and will never get rid of it, but the thought of traveling by myself on it scares me anymore. Honda dealerships are carrying less and less parts every year as the valks get older.

After the hillbilly ride, I tried staying with the Maryland goldwing clan (Todd and TODD) on route 16. The improvement of technology of wing and valk is no comparison. The wing out performs the valk in every aspect but appearance (IMO).

One of my local dealers has a few NEW 2010 Yellow Wings.... but the prices on those are a little more than the new ones (and I don't care for the new ones).

You never did say what the price/mileage etc is..... you know, just in case you don't want it... some others here might be willing to jump on it.   Wink

Hey, if the price is right on that yellow wing, go for it.  My opinion, but the yellow ones don't sell too well around here and not too many takers so the price is lower on yellow color.  I like the maroon red best of all and seems to ask a pretty penny more than most other colors.  Red and blue and black and titanium seem to be the most wanted wing colors.  Yellow and white the least popular.

I have seen some good used wings with low miles (under 40K miles) year 2001 thru 2004 let go for around 10-11K which I don't think is too bad.  Just waiting say another 10 years+ until my Valk wears out (if ever) so the 2005-2010 goldwings get to around 7-8 grand which is what I paid for my black Valk I/S 4 years ago.

Just remember Joe,  scrapping pegs on the wing will be coming up on ya a lot sooner than your Valk.

Two of my cousins had wings (an 2006 & an 2008).  They both got rid of them.  They said that they were way too hot to ride in the summer time.  When they rode them in towns they said they felt like they were getting cooked on them.  The one traded the 2008 on a Victory Cross Country and the other one traded his 2006 on a Vulcan Nomad.  I drove them both, I didn't like the way the handle bars positioned your hands.  It got uncomfortable after a while.

Our Valk I/S's are pretty hot as well to drive in 90+ degree temps but would agree the goldwings with more plastic upfront are a tad worse.  If it wasn't for my upfront hwy. pegs to put my feet above the engine while riding 90% of the time,  I couldn't stand driving my I/S in that heat either.
I do like the Victory Cross Country looks but the price is a tad out of my league.  The Vulcan Nomad not so much since heard they are pretty slow, but do look nice as well and well engineered, or so I am told.  Also agree 90% of all bikes around me are either wings or HD's, makes my I/S unique and hear often what kind of HD is that -  Grin

It might be ok in Tenn. but here in Houston, it is too hot to ride the Wing in the summer.  Anything above 80 deg. starts to cook me and I jump on the IS with the shortie shield.

Come on down, I'll let ya ride it a few days and see how you like it.

Well Joe it's not always the bike that makes the rider. I think it would be a great stable mate for "Half Breed".  If you don't put all that crap that most old Goldwing riders put on it, it will look different.  Come to the dirty side my friend.  Come to the Dirty side.

Steamer has the stuffed animals and a DQ homing device installed on his I/S.  I thought that only Wings had those but somehow he got one installed.

Yup...them wings can fly!  We found that out last year chasing them down to the 1st Hillbilly Ride.  What a BLAST!!!  Oh yeah, Todd and TODD can ride the crap outta them too.

On the other hand, Joe, I've heard your complaints (no air, too hot, etc. etc.) about the Valk IS...and I'd guess that most of them would carry over to the Wing.  That being said, if I were looking to replace my Valk, the wing would likely be at or near the top of the list.

Ditto.  Got a buddy with a white Wing.  Don't like where the handlebars put your arms/hands at all.  That, and the plastic lower fairing pieces/parts/thingys cut into my legs when my feet are on the highway pegs.

Love my valk (although it cooks me in the summer heat and humidity), but I'm not a big fan of the Wing.  They don't have personality.  Say what you want about the Harleys, but they've got personality.......Wings, not so much.  Seen one Wing, you've seen them all IMHO.

No matter what everyone else's likes and dislikes are, Joe, do whatever YOU want to do.  If you want it, go get it.   cooldude

Joe - You know I have both. An 05 Wing and the 98 Tourer. The Wing is faster and handles better. I bought an IS to replace the Tourer and promply resold it. I felt it was top heavy compared to the Tourer. Then I found the Wing and use it for long distance rides. The Valk has become my commuter bike. (128K )
Good luck with your decision.
