Has anyone purchased a 82-221 that is 11 3/4 x 6 1/2 and fiddled with the mounting brackets to make it work?....I think the back bracket looks like it could be reversed to move the entiire rack back by an inch or two so it cleared the seat...I hate buying stuff then it hangs on my wall..thanks again

Not sure, but I think I remember reading on here that somebody made one fit from a 750 shadow (or something similar). Don't remember who it was or what mods had to be done....sorry.

+1 on BonS's response. Also, you might want to PM a fellow member that calls himself Reb from Carbondale, IL. He has a nice solo setup he created for his bike.

Update...I ordered a showchrome 53-448 for my 98 valkyrie...I got it for 89 no freight or tax...I had to throw away the front mounting backet and make my own out of 1/8 inch aluminum..2.5 x 3 inch piece...one bend and four drilled holes...polished it up and it looks good...you only see 1/2 inch of it when the seats on..you hardly even know its there...tools I used were a drill, several bits, jig saw and of course my dremmel tool...I'd rank this up as fairly simple...took me two hours to complete...I used a vice also..I can try for a picture if anyone would like...craig

Hover your mouse over a thumbnail image in a Photobucket album and some options appear. Click on "IMG code" and it will change to "copied". Now simply paste this code anywhere in your message and the picture will appear there. There's no need to use any of the hyperlink icons that are above the "Post Reply" editor window for this to work. You can check your handiwork by clicking on "Preview".

Thanks for that tutorial....lol....anyway theres a couple pictures for you...I liked the way it turned out. I used the same holes that the rear seat was mounted to...makes for easy removal, should my wife wanna ride along...this was not very difficult to complete..hardest thing was finding a scrap piece of aluminum...home depot did not carry such a thing...my neighbor had it...any other questions go ahead and ask..craig

One other thing...that rack I installed measures 11 3/4 inches which is a good 1.5 inches longer than the original out of stock one...but it still works for me..
