« on: December 02, 2012, 11:15:47 AM »

I ordered the Polk 501 speakers and was not happy to find they are smaller than the stock speakers on my Interstate... and actually I could probably use the Polk 521s, a 1/4 inch larger dia....

Anyone know why the 501s are popular here instead of the 521s????

thx, confused

Hey Rocker Have put sets of 501s on both my I/Ss and do like them over stock.Stocks were a single driver at 10 watts while these are dual drivers at 45 watts. Use heavier magnets and do sound better. You do need to use the basket of the stock speakers to mount the fronts . Maybe abit smaller but better sound. Chrome

I bought those  also a few weeks ago. Fit snug in the rear. Fronts, I didn't like the mods just to make a smaller speaker work. I decided to go with a 5.25" Polk audio speaker.  I made it work with a few unconventional mods to the speaker. Did not use the speaker buckets anymore. Added an amp and some other goodies. uglystupid2

I have been dying to try and fit a larger speaker in my fairing I just down have the money for a cheap set of the inner faring speaker mounts to cut up and experiment with. Used ones from Pinwall are $150 bucks unreal.

I think I could fit a set of 5x7's in there but I need to donor cover/mounts anyone got a broken set I could talk you out of.

rocker333 you can get a larger set of speakers in there you just can use any of the mounting location holes or stuff and at the replacement prices if you make a mistake nobody is willing to experiment the original screw holes will NOT allow for any larger labeled size of speaker.
