I was talking to a local trike shop and he says he has a valk final drive he will sell. I have only been in mine once and noticed some wear on splines. So thought it might be worth picking up if price is wright. I do I know its off of a valk and not a wing? Any easy way to tell? What do you think its worth if splines are in good?

Wing final...

Valkyrie final...

Good splines...

Splines with some wear... see how they are stepped on the wear side?

People seem to get $500 or more for unworn Valkyrie final drives these days.

Some of us have been rebuilding Valkyrie final drives with good splines from
1500 wings. It might be a pain in the rear end if you were trying to do it to
save money or in an emergency. I'm doing it so I'll have a spare, and because
it is fun... since my Valkyrie's final drive is currently OK, I don't have a time
constraint...

The splines in the pinion cup (that thing sticking off the end of the wing final
in the picture above) need to be OK too, but pinion cups are not expensive new.

Other stuff inside the final drive (bearings) could be bad even if the splines
on the outside look good, but I don't think that is common.

thanx for the photo didn't realize that big of difference. I have a new pinion cup and shaft. mine stripped last summer 400 miles from home. I bought the bike used and put a new tire on it thats when i noticed a little wear on splines. didn't know to look any farther. I know now wont happen again.

Hmm, that's weird...I have both a Wing and a Valk final sitting on my bench right now and the Wing final doesn't look like that. Bought it for the good splines which my Valk final needed.

Does it look like this?

In my haste I picked the first clear picture of a 1500 wing drive
I saw on eBay... it was from an 88. 88 & 89 are different from the rest, but the fiche shows
that the ring gears are the same throughout... The above picture is also from eBay,
it is labeled as a 97...

I'm just trusting that they are what they are labeled as... in any event, 1500 wing
drives look way different from Valkyrie drives.

I have the wing drive carcasses I scavenged from at home, but no pictures of them.
