I've read posts from various people stating that EBC Sintered brake pads are hard on OEM rotors. This statement is usually followed by "I've never used them, just OEM pads". I would like to hear from people who have used them and if they found they really did damage their rotors and how well they worked. I contacted EBC and they claim their pads are softer and put less wear on OEM rotors and they have not received any complaints from Valkyrie customers. Please do not respond with "I heard of a guy who used them". I would like to hear about first hand experiences. I have used EBC pads on all my previous bikes with complete satisfaction so I'm wondering why the Valk should be any different. Thanks guys.

If that is the way you feel then I suggest to just go ahead and use them.

With more "satisfaction"

Most all steel rotors are the same, not like stainless steel tho'

Hi Ricky-D. I guess you miss-interpreted my question. I have no preference for EBC nor do I have a problem using OEM pads it's just that I've never seen a post from anyone with first hand knowledge of using EBC pads. The three local Honda dealerships here all recommend EBC and have to special order OEM and if you take it to their shop they normally install EBC's unless the customer insists on OEM. I don't want to have to replace my rotors later to save a few bucks on pads now but if there's no significant difference then it's easier and cheaper to buy EBC. For all I know Honda may farm out the production of their OEM pads to EBC, they certainly don't manufacture them themselves.

I've used EBC pads on my Goldwing, and PO has them installed on the front wheel of my Valk. I've heard the comment about them chewing up OEM rotors frequently enough that I am convinced it is so. On my Wing I replaced the rotor on the rear wheel with an EBC rotor. If I had to do it again I would look for a used OEM rotor on eBay and stay with OEM pads. I don't like the noise with the EBC pads, and they are a bit 'grabby' for my liking.

see my post in this thread. People don't like EBC due to their braking torque curve which increases heat and wear, resulting in noisy squeel.

Made a significant buzzing noise when I used them, and for that reason I went back to OEM.

rccranger,

Welcome to the forum.

Because you are new, I will give you this warning.  Brake pads probably rank third, behind oil brands and tire brands, as the most controversial topic on this forum.

Again, welcome.

Had them on my Valkyrie when I bought it. Impressive stopping power, however, I didn't care for the scraping sound they made so went back to OEM.

Thanks for the input guys. I know, like oil and tires, it's a contentious issue. I think I'll take the advice given and order in some OEM pads. Thanks again.

EBC rotors with EBC Brake pads, Honda Rotors with Honda brake pads. I had EBCs put on my trike by a mechanic, who asked a Honda dealer what they'd use.  Rode with them a while, didn't like how they gripped, plus loud. Replaced them with the Hondas, and am happy again. The EBCs are quite a bit thicker than the Hondas, but they marked up my Honda rotors. May change to EBC rotors mext time around; have a friend who runs all EWBC and likes them very much.

I am the guy you are looking for.  I replaced my original worn out front brake pads with EBC pads, sold to me by my Honda dealer.  The result was ruined front rotors.  I then replaced the rotors with EBC rotors and new EBC pads and have never had a problem with wear on either rotors or pads.
