Still trying to help out my friend.  Does anyone know if Re-Jetting for Cobra 6 into 6 pipes consists of different needles, different jets or both?  If needles, are they adjustable?  If jets, what size?  TIA, Stan

My Factory Pro kit came with 105 mains and 38 slow jets and needles.

If you get the Cobra kit, get the one that comes with the carb springs and pilot tool as well as the adjustable needles and jets.  I can't speak as to what size comes with the Cobra kit but I would expect either 102s or 105s or both.

This was posted by J. Orr, 3/27/1998, on the GWRRA BBS, valkyrie section.
The following mods were done by Marc the owner of Factory Pro of a valkyrie that had cobra 6x6 pipes.
K&N filter (w/o prefilter)
Air box mod (remove plastic welded baffle)
38 pilot jet
3.5 turns idle mixture screw
front needles set on #3
mid and rear needles set on #2
115 main jets all carbs
this picked up 5 hp over the base run with the cobras which are down about 10 hp from stock.
this HP is still down from the stock pipes

I talked to Marc when I was jetting my bike w/glass pac mod about the cobras and the testing on the above bike he did, he said, "u can only get back to stock oem HP, anymore and major jetting and air inlet changes need to be done but mpg will go down." more or less his words.

drag pipes aka as straight pipes which the cobras are, came about from the HD dirt track racing program. they will make more power but only in a very narrow HP range such as used on a circle track. anything else and they are terrible for HP compared to other exhaust designs.

Thanks, guys.  He has removed the Cobras installed by the PO & put stock pipes on.  His issue is very poor mpg above 3K--23-25 mpg.  Getting 39-40 @ 3K & below.  Needles are not adjustable, so wondering if the PO put needles with a different taper or really big mains in?  Guess he will have to tear into the carbs to find out.

non-adj needles are the stock needles all others are adjustable.
mpg sounds about right really drops above 3k, 4 degree TW will help.
hwy cruise 3-4k rpms should only be about 1/8 throttle if the pilots jets are the right size and the idle mixture screws are set right.

you're already in the sweet spot mileage-wise.  no changes needed unless you want to do some actual dyno tuning.

+1 on those guys ^^^^^

You can get up to about 30 (ish) above 3K rpm (I get about 32 until I get close to the 4K range)... but you'll be on the lean side and down a few horses (as I am).

Plus... I'm at sea level.  My mileage does drop a little in the higher elevations, but I'm never there long enough to get a GOOD feel for high elevation mileage.

My only reason for not trying to adjust more is because pulling the carb bank is such a PITA!!   Grin

There is a lot of good information in those links.

except for about 80% of what the anvil posted, since he/she just liked to argue every point.

It is not necessary to pull the carburetor assembly to check the jets.

Of course you would have to assume that identical jets are in all carburetors.

Simply drop one float bowl and the jets are right there for inspection.

The jets are identified with the number to which they correspond.

Was that what got your two posts deleted???.

My impression of Anvil is that he wouldn't back down and had a tolerant social persuasion.  I don't have any issues with either.  My apologies to the original poster for participating in de-railing this thread.

it posted something about me or it was just an outright technological lie/s so I defended myself and called it out about the lie/s and Willow jumped in and rightfully so and stopped us both, if I remember correctly. and there were other threads besides that one, so then I just stop reading its post. and there were a few posts whereas I pulled my posts myself.
