Has anyone tried the led bulbs with the LEDs on the side of the bulb so you don't get the hot spot in the middle? I just ordered some and wanted to know if I just wasted my 5 bucks

Yes many have. Wasted your money? depends on which leds you ordered..

I did a write up with  led's and honda rebel harness here.  In there is a link to photos of various leds.

Did the rebel harness with blue led's for the tach and speedo backlight...wow..I sure get alot of compliments on them !
