I have read several posts about using the guts of the Goldwing final drive on the Valk.  I compared the part numbers and only the pinion cup and 5 pin coupler have the same part numbers.  I could not find any post where someone has actually done the swap and what the results are.
I have located a couple of GW final drives, but what to make sure that they will work for the Valk before going to get them.

I believe you can use the driven splines if you press them out of the ring gear. I have heard this as been done a lot. I plan on doing it this winter to mine.

It's not the entire final drive but some of the parts on it that are interchangeable. You mention the pinion cup and assoc. parts. But the main thing is the spline that the flange drive mates with. That part can be pressed out and pressed into a Valk final, making an otherwise useless final drive good again. I picked up a used 1500 Wing final off ebay last year for $45 & free shipping. I removed the pinion cup and its parts, the outer plastic ring, some other parts I don't recall just now, then pulled the internal parts out. Took it over to a friend with a press, along with my Valk final with bad splines. Pressed both parts out, pressed the good Wing spline into the Valk piece and reassembled. I now have a good spare Valk final.

The first web server in South Carolina probably ran on hubcap.clemson.edu... a
computer with that name still exists, I just drop files into a directory there and
they're on the web... that doesn't help you if you are not affiliated with Clemson...

There's plenty of free places you can put stuff, and it won't go away, but it is
usually no where near as easy to do as when you have command line access to
the server....

Back when I joined the VRCC, I made a scvrcc web site at sites.google.com... that's an
example of a free place you can "permanently" stash pictures on the web.... this picture is
from there (right click on view image info) it has been there for years...

Hmmm,, hadn't thought of trying Google, I have tried Photostash and many other picture hosting sites, but have issues with all of them.

Hey bikerboy,, if you do the spline pressout, just be sure to get the proper backlash between ring and pinion on reassembly, and watch where you put the sealant when putting the cases together....  those things are outlined in the service manual.   http://www.valkyrienorway.com/download.html

Not part of the original thread (sorry) but thought it was worth mentioning.

I use Photobucket, and have a folder named Forum Posts, where I place all my pictures that I post on different forums. This is so I don't accidentally delete a pic that I posted to a forum thread, and therefore making it less than it originally was.

I said Photostash, but I meant Photobucket as one of the hosting sites I have tried.....  I had problems with the organization scheme for some reason... don't even remember why... I am going to look at using Google as it is my go to and I use a lot of their other services.

bikerboy,, I didn't mention that the spline pressout is a fairly straight forward process,,  I did mine a few months and it is running troublefree. Pick yourself out a GW drive with good splines and go for it. The reason for the part number differences is that the splines and ring gear are sold as one part and only the pressed in splines will interchange.

Good luck,, it can save you a wad of cash.
