Ron (Polky47) is in. McKenna (Disket) and Dave (Brewer) might show. I know Dave and Robin are always up for a gathering if they can make it work. I talked to a new member yesterday by the name of Kent Dix. He may show to meet the group. Dean will more than likely bring Kris or Jessie along. It's possible that Chase could bring his girlfriend if she is not scheduled to work. It would be really cool if I could shame Whooray into flying in and eating with us.  cooldude

I can't think of a good reason to not come on down and eat good brisket crazy2

Poor Psycho... did y'all forget about him?   Of course, we're still deciding; the weather has me a bit concerned.  I have to be at work on Monday... can't get stuck between here and Colorado.  I can't believe it's snowing already... WTH??

Cheeto and I are planning on being there.  Living in Gunnison, we're also afraid of the weather.  In October, we could ride to the front range Banana Belt and end up being snowed out until spring's thaw!

Hey, you should be good coming up from the south.  The only real threat could be the high passes at our latitude, Oct 11 wknd.  And even then this early they would be cleared immediately.

The entire ride looking back with Misfit immediately behind.  This first edit is a test - to see if my expanded videos will post.  40 minutes long.  Working on another edit, with clips from the front camera (I'm right behind Darby) and cropping/zoom edits.  No music here, just the sweet Valkyrie singing (and a bit of a luggage rattle).  I'll play with that on future videos.

Filmed in 720p.  File sent to Youtube over 2Gb.  Took 500+ minutes to send.

Thx.  Yeah on the flat section just North of the S curves near the top of the pass.  And also coming down on the flatter section near Silverton.  We had a bit of the Yo-yo effect and I had to stay close to Darby for the front camera while there was lots of speed changes so needed the acceleration.  Of course you lose some power at altitude.  Didn't check it exactly on the GPS track but the top of the pass is near timberline - over 11,000ft.  Misfit is closer than it looks due to the wide angle lens - he did a pretty good job of staying close for the camera w/o getting too close - considering all the speed changes.

Good video Mark.  I've also patiently uploaded (from a 1.5 Mb/sec connection) most of the same day's ride from a different perspective.  Mine is in 5 minute chunks that continue via the playlist link posted here. Do you have any video from that Saturday's spirited Black Canyon ride?

The best part of that ride was not filmed because the leader didn't stop at the beginning so I could mount and turn on the cameras.  And when I did catch up at the overlook and get them mounted, the group took off again before I was ready and I had to ride like a maniac to catch up.   Too bad, the twisties overlooking the Black Canyon on the south end are the best of the ride.  I had not asked the leader to stop (didn't think of it in Gunnison) so I just hoped it would happen as it has on many other group rides - stopped at the overlook just past the dam.

I did get the sequence when I caught up however.  I'll work on that next.  Also need to get some up of Darby, and GreenDragon wants to see the video over Wolf Creek Pass - I was right behind him & I think he wants to critique his riding.  BTW I used to hang glide with a camcorder on the keel so I could relive the flights and also learn from my mistakes.  Would have been a lot better and easier with today's digital cameras.  I made a fiberglass & foam rubber camcorder pod and counterbalanced it on the nose.

Here's one of those videos - SNAFU on Lookout Mtn over Golden.  Posted this before - and the TV show Right This Minute had it on the air the day after I put it up.

Damn that so-called leader!   coolsmiley  Da noive of da guy!  I'm pretty sure the reason he was cookin' is because every time he looked in the rear view there was a big, mean looking dude in a devil red jacket flogging him along.  That and it was a blast!  Oh well, there's always next year.

Ya didn't HAVE to own it.  But it's not a blame thing anyway.  Simply the reason I don't have videos before the overlook.

Got some Australian licorice, BTW...

Just talkin about this last night with June.  If perhaps we want to have the North and South rides converge in the middle, and then ride together to Elizabeth.  Of course this makes it a longer ride - but then that's sort of the point.  If we want to do this, I suggest converge in Castle Rock or Sedalia, then ride together from there  I know all the backroads in the area, have suggestions, that include no riding on I25.  I'm talking about South ride coming from Damon's - 13mi via Hwy 83 N to SR105, 5mi W to Monument, Perry Park Rd N to Sedalia (or Castle Rock), 19mi toWolfensburger, 6mi E to Castle Rock, SE to Lake Gulch Rd 12mi to Hwy 83, E 2 mi. to S end of Russelville Rd, N. 8mi to Deerfield Rd, E 2mi to Hwy86, E 5mi to Wingnuttz. North ride - depends on who's coming, but probably use Sante Fe (Hwy 85) but there is also Daniels Park Rd out of Highlands Ranch.  Meeting point - either Sedalia Bar & Grill parking lot or the gas station just East of there, or if in Castle Rock, the large strip mall parking lot next to McDonalds at Wolfensburger & Park St.  BTW, there's a new gun store and range just a block north of there, pretty nice shop if want to meet there and browse while waiting. There's also 3 gas stations right nearby E on Wolfensburger.

This would also enable us to have a ride that day - we'll meet at the rendezvous and lead the last part of the ride.

This southern route looks like this.  Includes low traffic twisty roads that likely only locals know.

I'm also good with ride, eat, hang out, repeat.  Just saw the weather gal saying we need to keep an eye on Hurricane Simon's remnants when it comes inland.  Looks like it could rain (and/or snow) on the planned parade.   tickedoff

Looks like the consensus might be, it's on regardless of weather.  However I haven't seen a forecast talking about Simon's effects, but generally good weather.

I'm thinking let's plan to meet at the Conoco on Plum Creek Pkwy at 1:30, and kickstands up at 2:00.  Picked this location as it has easy access from all directions and has gas and sundries and is on the side of town we will be heading out on the backroads to Elizabeth.  Wingnuttz is approx a half hour from here via our route.
Any issues with this time / place?

I say we have to do it on Saturday. If it were only locals a rain date would be fine. Whooray took Friday off and is flying in to Denver to eat with us on Saturday. It wouldn't be cool to cancel. Dean has a meeting on Saturday so he is planning on going straight to Wingnutzz after the am meeting. Chase also has a work related meeting on Saturday so I will more than likely hang back and ride over with him. Not sure when his meeting ends but we may also be heading straight to Wingnutzz. As far as a head count this is who I know that are planning to go.

Yep.  I got that.  That's why I said "it's on regardless of weather".

So can someone step up and lead the ride via Perry Park Rd and Wolfensberger to Castle Rock?  Or is that even desired for those coming from your area?  IMO that's a way better ride than I25 and puts folks in the right place to enjoy more great roads between Castle Rock & Elizabeth.

Also, no one has arranged to lead the northern ride, with a meetup - it least not in this thread.  Or maybe that isn't needed if not very many from Denver area.

As far as a head count this is who I know that are planning to go.

Well crap.  We were planning on riding over Friday and riding with the group Saturday, but as luck would have it heavy rains are predicted all day.   tickedoff  Rethinking it now, we may take a boring cage or ride straight to Wingnutzz Saturday.

OR....   Sat is forecast to be great.  Gunnison to Castle Rock via Canon City is 207 miles - an easy ride to arrive by 1:30 with an early start.  You could avoid much of  I-25 via Hwy83 or Perry Park rd for a bit slower ride.  Also there's Elbert rd, I posted the map on pg 5, for a direct to Wingnuttz ride from the Springs. With the HCC we did quite a few day rides that took back roads and went as far as Crawford - significantly further than Gunnison - like 450-500 mile day ride loops. Shame to give up the two-wheel trip.  However that doesn't stop possible rain on Sunday.  Just sayin...

You're just gonna hafta trailer your bike!!!

Don't have one.  If I had a Toy Hauler I'd set up in some remote southwestern desert about six months out of the year.

Those are some very cool pipes on Chuck's bike.   cooldude

Thanks.  I was pleased with the build. Cool, literally!  They should be like my other 5" pipe builds, not hot to the touch with an air gap behind the chrome.  Haven't heard them yet, and their design & build was a one-off prototype.  I understand they are quieter than they look they might be.

A HUGE SUCCESS!  It was a great feed.  Good ride, short but high quality, a half hour from Castle Rock to Elizabeth.  Got some good videos, editing now.

Looks like a very worthy cause for a ride-to-eat / eat-to-ride!

It must have been really good.  Diskette ordered something other than chicken tenders!!!   Evil   Wink

Here's the entire Castle Rock to Elizabeth Great Brisket Ride.  Still a camera vibration on bumps.  Might be internal and why I got it on ebay for a good price.
