I had some choices to make on the pack list Smiley difficult to fit enough mead for everyone to get a sample plus gear and clothing.

I brought 6 Valkyrie beers to share. Just saying...  Wink

Have we all recovered from InZane? If so let's get back in the saddles.  Around this time last year Dead Pan and I rode Highway 12 and had a great time.  Let's do it again.

Who: You & anyone you know who rides.
What: This will be an 82 mile ride down the Highway Of Legends (Hwy 12) through beautiful and breath taking views.
When: Saturday, July 18th @ 9:00am (Mark your calendars)
Where: Meet at the Loaf N Jug on the south side of pueblo (1201 W. Pueblo Blvd 81004)
How: The plan is to ride to Walsenburg,  to La Veta, down through Stone Wall, then on to Trinidad. Of course there are many beautiful stops along the way. We will shoot up I-25 and have lunch at Obies Fillin Station in Colorado City (BBQ). If time allows we can head up to Bishops Castle on the way back.
Why: Do I really need to say why?

"Friends don't let friends ride OEM Valves Stems."

At InZane Brother Brewer walked up and handed me two aftermarket Valve Stems. Having recently replaced the rubber on both the front and rear I also replaced the OEM Valve Stems with the aftermarket stems that Brewer kindly gave me.

A big thanks to Brewer!  cooldude

Looks like you guys had a nice ride on the 19th.  I've been crazy busy at work, but have had a few nice short rides, rode up to the rodeo in Cheyenne a couple of times during Frontier Days.  Fired the old dragon up this morning and discovered gas just pouring out of somewhere under the tank or around the two rear carbs.  I hope it's a rotten fuel line and not the fuel rail o-rings.  I dread having to pull the carbs off ....oh well.  I'm getting tired of these Ethanol problems in fuel systems.  What a great time at Inzane!

Wrangler,

It was a good long ride. Sorry to hear about your fuel leak. I hope it is something easy and not the notorious fuel rails.

Keep your eye on this Colorado Riders Thread. I am going to try to do my Pikes Peak or Bust ride at the middle/end of August. Then we will have the Labor Day weekend Hagar Memorial Ride. Hope to see you on those rides.

Josh, Must have been a piece of dirt under one of the float needles.  I had my wife sit on the bike tonight and hold it level so I could see where it was coming from and no leak!  Rode it around, ran fine and rechecked, not leaking.  I hope that was all it was, crazy thing though, it was running down the side of the rear carb on the left bank and not out one of the bowl overflow lines.  Oh well.....maybe my visions going!

Man I would also check the drain valves and make sure they are all closed tight. I hope it's resolved and that easy.

Itchin to do a ride.  Besides just puttin around on errands / dinner rides.  Got the Pikes Peak ride upcomin?  Not really a big ride but nice local diversion.  Got the Darby ride but still weeks away.  We haven't talked about details.  Do we want to hit the San Juans again - like the Dolores river valley with the Gateway museum / Telluride / Cortez.  Head as far as Utah, maybe to Arches N.P. in western UT on a 2-night ride.  Could ride 191 S and pass thru Monument Valley; hit 4-corners, back thru Durango / Ouray / Montrose.  Just Blue-skyin.

First annual Darby (Hager the Horrible) Memorial ride. Labor Day weekend, Saturday - Monday. Planning on heading over Independance Pass and into Aspen. One of Darby's favorite rides. From there maybe a ride up to Ruedi reservoir and back down to Glennwood Springs. I'm thinking west from there to Rifle for supper at Shooters Grill showing our support for our second amendment. I have not yet lined up a place to stay over there but I think we could stay in either Rifle or New Castle. From there head east through GW canyon to Minturn and head south on 24 making our way towards Canon City. If we stay there for the night we could meet Terri and Zander in Florence for supper at Quincy's. Those of you coming from the north could meet the southern riders in Buena Vista on Saturday morning at say 10:00 am and plan to roll from there by 10:30. Anyone interested??  cooldude

What a coinkidink!  We were actually going to suggest Independence Pass.  Haven't ridden it in years.  The rest sounds good too.  Looks like a great ride in remembrance of a great man.

Scuba is not really work for me. I'll be hosting a rebreather seminar and try rebreather session in our pool. Earlier this year I added the rebreather equipment to my teaching profile, really cool tech for diving.

Assuming a mild rider from Bama would not be turned away, I've made tentative plans to cruise out your way for the rides y'all have been discussing... if they actually occur... Any update on the Pike's Peak Or Bust Ride the weekend of 8/29 - 30 and the Darby Memorial Ride Labor Day weekend?

I'd like to do both with a bit of cruising around in between enjoying some of Mother Nature's finest natural air conditioning during the late summer heat... pretty warm down here in dear Ol' Dixie and I could sure use a break...

That would be great Bruce. Seems to be a draw from the south this year. JP called me yesterday and said that he was headded here for the Darby ride from Lake Charles. I would be extra proud to ride with you again. It's been awhile. JP was gonna drag Strider along also but he has to head back to Africa about that time. Bummer. Come ahead on Bruce and if you need a place to stay I have plenty of room.  cooldude

DDT,

Speaking in regards to the Pikes Peak or Bust Ride I can say that we would love to have you and yes being up at 14,115 feet will really cool you off. You might even get snowed on.

I am traveling this week (up in Fargo, ND (and yes on the Valkyrie)) so I haven't yet had a chance to put the details together for the ride. Since you are coming such a long way I will go ahead and get the details out. For those who did the ride last year it will be a repeat of what we did last year (hopefully without the massive flooding on Hwy 24).

Who: You
What: Ride 19.5 miles around 162 turns, making a 6,000ft ascent to the top at 14,115 feet.
When: Saturday, August 29th @ 10:00am
Where: Pikes Peak Highway Main Gate (5069 Pikes Peak Hwy, Cascade, CO 80809)
 - Park outside the main gate and we will go through together. We may be able to get a group rate.
How: Gas up & Show up
Why: Because it is glorious to see a group of Valkyries at 14,115 feet.

After the ride we can stop to eat at Rudy's, a local watering hole outside Manitou Springs and order BBQ by the pound.

WOW! Thanks for the response and welcome! I'm not sure when I may depart... I was planning to leave in the morning and swing through southwestern Virginia for a Scooter Dog, then meander out yonder on back roads... Rain, however, threatens to put a 'damper' on that, so we'll just have to see. The weather forecast does look good for this weekend, though, so while I may have to shoot for a Scooter Dog on the return leg, I will easily be able to make the Pikes Peak ride the following weekend.

I'm really looking forward to sharing some miles/smiles, grub, and socializing with y'all... It's always good to share windage and elevation with old friends and new... See ya soon!!!

DDT

P.S. ALI is really excited about this trip, as well... She seems to seriously like touring and roaming around North America... She's such a good partner...

First Annual Darby Hager the Horrible ride motel info. I have contacted two places and told them that you folks would be contacting them. I could not put a block on these rooms this close to Labor Day so don't procrastinate. The first night Sept 5 will be spent in Rifle CO at the Gateway Lodge 970-625-1777 CALL NOW. The second night will be spent in Florence CO at the Riviera Motel 719-784-6716 CALL NOW. I have not stayed at either of these places and booked based on reviews and price only. I hope that they are as nice and accommodating as the rooms that we are use too on this ride.  cooldude
