On my way to work this afternoon I rode behind a couple riding two up on a Maroon and Creme Tourer. I met them at the Junction of Hwy 6 and 119 and followed them up to the intersection of Hwy 119 and hwy 46 where I have to turn off to go to the office. Was it anyone on this board? I was happily surprised to see another Valk out today!

Sounds like Mike and Tracy. They live in Ft. Collins.

Good ride yesterday, to Westcliffe and back via Hwy 9 & Evergreen Station. Always great twisties & views and minimal traffic (except the stretch of Hwy 50 with rain and traffic, had to ride slower than I like on 50; and Hwy 24 - 20 minute parking lot on Sun afternoon approaching Woodland Park caused by the stupidly timed traffic light at the Hwy 67 junction).
A shower then a thunderstorm dirtied up George, dang it - looks like a couple hours to detail him is in order. Got the key to his behaviors in detail from Chuck. Turns out the carb was set up by Lamont specifically for this Magnacharger. There's no better blower gearhead that I know of - don't know if the flat spot can be tuned out but it's behavior is learnable to avoid it while getting the best performance. If we had a tuner like Attic Rat closer... Likely revisit that after some higher priority stuff is done; maybe can call on one with blower expertise. Maybe I can even learn it...
We waited out the hail cell for another 20 minutes at Divide under the shelter, then when Myradar indicated the cell was mostly spent we went ahead and took 24 down to the Springs and headed home via the Black Forest. Ran into the road closed on Fillmore; more fun detours at the top of the hill near the abortion shooting site.
Checked the Delorme digimap - found the Foxtrot detour Pieman was talking about. Didn't find a dang church intersection tho. Think I can find Foxpoop next time with the help of my SNAFU'd Zumo - since Garmin saw fit to break Mapsource (which now won't run, crashes, EOL'd) and replace it with that hopeless POS Basecamp. What a useless pile of dung that software is. Now I have lost any planning capability; might as well forget ever using the computer with my GPS.
Thx to Damon (thx for the pie) & Dick & Ron and OK Junebug (even with her wine) for the ride yesterday. I needed a dose of mountain twisties. Almost didn't go with the iffy forecast which turned out to be right - or coulda brought Jade, or Deerslayer, or Marty, all easier to clean. Or at least can be cleaned to a dirtier standard.
Oh yeah I didn't get my mocha shake. Or 3-course dinner. June got her ice cream tho. Lots of it in the big freezer. By the time I got home after retrieving the truck & trailer and moving George into the garage to get ready for cleaning I was so pooped I fell asleep watching the olympics. Love to watch the floor exercises. Didja know those girls are TINY? Our superstar is 4'8". And underage. Except a couple of them from Europe, one is FORTY ONE! And competing with girls younger than her kids, and returning for like her FIFTH olympics. Man. Well preserved. I can't imagine flipping and jumping and spinning around the bars when I was that age! Or ever.

I will be working up in Denver next week. Would you like to meet up for dinner one night next week? I can invite some of the other VRCC guys as well.

LOL 2nd annual Darby Hagger The Horrible ride and loging info. For those north of me or near here we will be rolling from my place at 8:00 am Saturday September 3rd. We will meet Mark/June and anyone else riding 285 or 50 in Poncha Springs around 10:00-10:30. Roll out from there and hook up with Seth at the park and he will lead us to lunch. From there Seth will lead us through the Black Canyon of the Gunnison and through Crawford into Montrose. We will be staying at the Country Lodge. Their number is 970-249-4567 call now to reserve your room. They will fill up because of the holiday weekend. Don't wait. I was not able to get the price down because of the Holiday and the fact that we are only there for one night. There is a three bedroom cabin there that is a cheap route if some of you want to share that. It has a full kitchen and a nice living area also. Some that took this ride four years ago stayed there and liked it. When you call mention the VRCC and they are expecting us and can keep the rooms closer together. From there Seth will lead us to Creede over the Million Dollar Hiway to stay at the Snowshoe Inn. This is another great mom and pop with clean rooms and a homemade breakfast. Those that rode four years ago will remember how nice these folks are. There number is 719-658-2315 again don't procrastinate. These rooms are going to fill up. From there will will head back to Gunnison for a brief farewell to Seth/Cheryl and back over Monarch Pass. Hopefully the BBQ place in Gunny is open this trip. I've heard good things about it. The Horsefly in Montrose has some good chow also. If you could reply to this thread with intensions of making this trip we could get an idea of who's going and if some want to split a room. This is always a good ride and I look forward to riding and honoring a Good Good man. RIP my friend. Welcome to Colorado. Come ride with us.

Kinda late to post this, but we are going to lunch at the Country Kitchen tomorrow for their fabulous Gyros. The chef is Greek - these are positively the best gyros I've ever found since I lived in Greece decades ago. They close early, at 2:00. We will pass through Elizabeth about 11:10 (assuming George cooperates on starting) if you want to ride with us. I'll check at the Safeway gas station. We will ride CR17 S from Elizabeth (the road just E of the post office) to Elbert Rd, CR25. Pass through Peyton about noon - if you want to ride up 24 from the Springs, to meet us at the Peyton Post Office. From there Hwy 24 to Simla. After lunch, we will ride 24 to Limon, and return West on 86.
They also have pies at the Country Kitchen, Dick.
The forecast for tomorrow is perfect weather.
Post here if you want to sample these fabulous gyros on a small day ride with us.

Yeah, George is not your average bear -- rather dragon. And I've only seen him in pictures!
It was a good Colorado riding day. Cheryl and I took a jaunt to Salida and back. We ate a tasty but overpriced burger at a joint called Hwy. 50 Burger, and Big Bertha devoured Monarch pass. What a great old bike!
Can't believe we're two weekends away from the Darby "Hager the Horrible" ride. Really looking forward, fingers crossed for good riding weather.

Gentlemen,
Tailgate Tommy had a good idea that I would like to share with you. He is interested in buying a DayMaker Adapter Bracket and asked me to bring it on the Darby ride so he would have to pay shipping. Great idea! Please let me know if you would also like to purchase one so I can bring the appropriate number of brackets. I will also install it on the ride if you have your DayMaker in hand.

Please, please don't ever insinuate that I had a good idea. Stuff like that stays with a guy and can lead to unobtainable expectations I know that you really meant "so he would NOT have to pay shipping. Now people will think I'm cheap... What size is the bracket and or packaging? Just want to make sure it will fit in the IS trunk as I do not travel lightly

Can't wait for the Second Annual Darby "Hager the Horrible" Labor Day Weekend Ride! It looks like the rainy pattern we've been having is going give way to more settled weather. Gave 5B's BBQ http://www.fivebsbbq.com/a heads up to prepare for a large herd of meat eating motorcyclists shortly after noon on Saturday. They serve a bodacious slab o' brisket! We'll be looking out for everyone at the city park just past Mickey D's. Woo-hoo!

Check this video I just saw on 9News of the rain waterfalls on Red Mountain Pass yesterday. http://www.9news.com/weather/video-shows-terrifying-drive-outside-of-ouray-1/310604114I can picture Misfit saying, "Heck, that's just a little sprinkle"!

It was looking like it was going to dry up for the weekend, but I'm not so sure now. Rain gear is a must to ride the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Leaving my place at 8:00 with Chase, Ron, Bob, TT, Phil, and JP. Meeting up with George at the shell station where I always met Darby in CC at 9:00-9:15. On to Salida to hook up with Mark, June, Dick, Cory, and Cory's friends. I'm not sure where Josh is going to fall in. Last time he met up in Salida. I am thinking that we will be in Gunnison 11:30-12:00. Seth, I can call you when we are leaving Salida so you can have a better idea of when to be at the park. Josh, if you want to meet in CC we will be at the Shell station on the west end of town. South side of 50. Otherwise the next stop will be at the Western station near 50 and 285. Everyone ride safe. Can't wait. PS. Hey Mark do you want me to bring the helmet that you left in my garage?

Damon, yeah if you can tie it on the bike somewhere that would be good. I prefer that helmet when on Jade w/o weather. Sux on George as the wind sucks it up. Hoping the weather stays away but not betting on it.
We will be at the station just W of 285/50 W of Salida, S side of 50 by 10:00.

We are hosting a foreign exchange student from Germany for the next 4 weeks, and they have a busy full schedule for us. Leaving my wife to manage all this weekend events would not be right. I will be cancelling my reservations at both hotels later today. If there was anyone wanting to stay at the same hotel as the group but couldn't you might want to jump on this and grab my rooms before another weary traveler does. I will hope for a dry ride, and pray you all get back home safe to your families, and homes come Monday. Have a good time and have a Markarita for me.

I have to regretfully inform you guys that I won't be able to go on the ride this weekend. Bummer. Maybe you could bring the exchange student with you? Is there a better way to experience the USA than from a motorcycle? Thanks for letting us know and for the well wishes. A mans gotta do what a mans gotta do.

Bummer, Josh, you'll be missed. I'll catch up with you on a headlight bracket.

I'm thinking I can meet up with the group Saturday morning. Give TT his bracket and hopefully he will be able to bring one to you as well. TT is however currently upset with me for claiming that he came up with a good idea so we will have to play that one by ear.

I'll have plenty of room this trip as Damon said I should leave the kitchen sink at home this time

Had a great time on the 2nd Annual Darby "Hager the Horrible" Labor Day Weekend Ride. It was good seeing the familiar grizzled faces (that applies only to the men), and meeting the new ones. English Dave, Bob, JP, George, Deja, Cory, Adam -- it was mighty good meeting you all. Hope we get in more rides the future. We were blessed by nice roads, blazing fall colors, loads of quality BBQ, powerful evening Markaritas (and toast to Darby), decent weather and lots of lies and laughter. This eclectic bunch of yahoos are really good folks, I love them. It was a treat hearing Chase wailing and bending strings accompanied by the mandolin pickin' motel owner in Creede. Some of Chase's original material is as good as I've heard, in simple complexity and lyrical depth. Very unique music. Thanks to everybody for making it a great ride and fun time! Pioneer Point (Black Canyon overlook) Above Ouray, Switzerland of the Rockies! Hairpins
