no, not worth the higher cost, much better oils out there for less money. the purple is just a dye.

It is overpriced, but it won't hurt your bike.  I have not used it, I'm a mobil 1 user. However, everyone has an opinion about oil, as you are about to find out.  Grin Cheesy  Hoser

All oil it seems is either not for motorcycles, overpriced, unusable in a wet clutch, has high metal content on analysis after use, or is absolutely the incorrect viscosity.  Therefore after reading all the negative aspects of such in motorcycles I have made the decision to discontinue using any motor oil in my bike and will immediately drain current oil before it destroys my engine.  I'll let everyone know the results after a few thousand miles of use.

Hey I run Honda oil and Honda oil only.
Is it over priced? He'll yes! Has it caused any problems in 100k+ miles? No!
So if it ain't broke why fix it?

I have used Royal Purple, for 1 oil change interval. I can say without any doubt, the trans shifted better on Mobile 1.  I switched back to Mobile 1, price had nothing to do with my choice.

I am the only owner--My '97 Tourer now has 276K on her and I can say that I've tried about every oil on the market and I never noticed any performance change due to the oil, good or bad!!  Having said that, I will add that I've been buying (and using) Walmarts Cycletec 15/40 for the last 10 or so years.  Not only that, I've been addeing 4 ounces of STP to every oil change. I change the filter (a Purolator from Walmart at about $3.00 per.) every 4000 miles, then I change the oil and filter (with STP) after another 4000 miles.  I DO NOTICE a difference with the STP.  The transmission is quiter and she shifts smoother.  The engine has never been opened for repair, execpt the valve covers for valve adjustments) the radiator is original, the clutch and transmission are untouched originals.  BUY ANY DECENT IN SPEC. OIL AND FILTER AND CHANGE THEM AT LEAST AS OFTEN AS THE MANUAL SAYS.  My bike does NOT use or loose any oil. She doesn't smoke and there is no clutch slippage.  Just ride her like you love her.

Yep on the STP.  If you use the whole can. I did the same thing when I used a whole can in my '66 Honda 305. It took three quick oil changes to get the clutch back.  However, I use less about 3 oz. with 3.9 quarts of oil, I've had no signs of slippage. STP used to be cans, but use plastic now-a-days.  I just checked an STP "bottle" and it's 15 oz.  I've been using about 3 oz.  Please understand that I am just saying that I've used that small amount for the last 100K with no noticable bad effects, yet seemingly obtained a quieting effect & smoother shifting of the transmission.  The subject of oils has been beaten to death and everyone on the board or anyone that has even owned and run any internal combustion engine will have his/her own strong opinions.

One last thing:  I'm sure that I ride a lot less aggressively now-a-days than I did the first couple of years of my "Fine Ladies " life, so maybe that is what has extended her life so well.

Talked to a tech at Shell about the Rotella T synthetic vs other oils.  This guy knew his stuff and I picked his brain for about 30 minutes one day. Bottom line....Rotella T is great for the Valk and it is just fine for our wet clutch as it does not have the friction modifiers.
First oil change, it ran smoother and quieter. I've been using it since about 35k miles and now have 98k on the bike. Run intestate 90-95% of the time for 10k oil change intervals. And yes, I asked him about the 10k oil change. He said that using a water cooled bike, and not abusing it, 10k oil change would be no problem as the oil was designed for much heavier use conditions.

Cheers
