All, It is getting to be that time when we start thinking of cooler temperatures and fall colors. I have done my scouting and think I have a decent route picked and a good hotel selected for this year's Missouri Fall Colors Ride. This year, I have selected the Northeast Corner of Missouri to hold the Fall Colors Ride...ground zero will be Hannibal, MO. The terrain is a mix of rolling hills, farmland, wooded areas, rivers and creeks, and even a lake or two. I have a stop planned at the Mark Twain Lake in the morning and an afternoon stop about 1/2 way back to Hannibal. Several of the towns in this part of Missouri date back to the late 1800s. We will be riding through a several of the older small towns. Below are is the maps for the ride: Missouri Fall Colors Ride 2014 MapRide date is Oct 11th. Stands up Saturday morning at 9am. The hotel information is as follows: Motel 6 Hannibal 123 Huckleberry Heights Dr Hannibal, MO 63401 (573) 221-9988 Rates quoted was: $45 for one person, $51 for two. (When I booked my room this morning for 2 people, it was $49 a night.) Mention "VRCC" to add you name room list and get the discounted rate (hopefully). Let me know if you have difficulty booking your room and I will talk to the manager. I do suggest calling the hotel and booking directly with them instead of booking online. You don't need anything special to make the reservation. If you are opposed to a Motel 6, there is a Super 8 just across the road. I didn't check with them but both places looked decent for the money. There is a restaurant in front of the hotel where we can have breakfast. Lunch will be at a BBQ place in Macon, MO called Hawg Fathers. I am planning on having dinner at Drakes Steak and Ale in Hannibal, MO. We have set up a registration page just so you can see who all is going to make it. Please sign up if you plan on coming. Missouri Fall Colors Ride 2014 Registration PageHope everyone can make it! It will be a good time for sure.

Got a room, This is going to be another good ride with some good people. We ride some of the roads in this area when we get a chance. Good for our area. And Hannibal is a very historic , old town, Home of Mark Twain. Joe does a great job of finding good roads.

I spent a few nights in Hannibal Mo back in the 1990's, was out on a little ride and just happen to stumble on it. If I remember right there was a look out point that looked out over at the Mississippi River. Some real nice riding there also.

I had been hoping for Hannibal as a Mo fall ride. Hannibal has some cool history. Some neat things to see in town and just out of town. I enjoy traveling the river road to get there, nice rolling farm land with good views of the river. That being said I have been trying to figure out how to get a family member to change her wedding date so that I can attend. Seems my motorcycle habit is not important enough. I will still be working on her,and monitoring this post.

Since moving to Iowa, Robbinsville NC is to far to get the days off work for the FCR. Sure will miss the wild bunch but looking forward to some new territory to enjoy the fall riding. Hope to meet some new faces and see the old ones again. Looking forward to this

I'm extending an open invitation to any riders that are coming to the 2014 Missouri Fall Color Ride and passing through the Kansas City area on the way. We'll be heading for ground zero in Hannibal, MO but with a relatively short detour to visit the restoration-in-progress of my great, great, great, great Uncle's log cabin restoration along the Mississippi in Hamburg, IL. This picture is early in the process. Much more work has been done. The owner will be there to give us a cooks tour. We'll be leaving around noon, Friday, October 10th. We're mustering at the Big Biscuit restaurant located at 530 N. 7 Hwy,Blue Springs, MO 64014. Departure is noon so get there early if you arrive hungry. We'll stop in Columbia, MO and Louisiana, MO for gas. If you can meet up with our ride in Louisiana, MO we'll be there about 3:30pm. We'll stop just before crossing the Mississippi river on Mansion St. at one of the 3 gas stations clustered right there. The ride south to Hamburg is about 30 minutes from Louisiana. The ride to Hannibal is about an hour from Hamburg. Please let me know if you'll be riding with us so we won't leave anyone behind. PM me your name and handle, and a cell phone number, just in case things change due to weather or late arrival. http://www.bigbiscuitrestaurant.com/blue-springs-mo

BonS, The cabin of your Uncle's that you going to is a very unique cabin. Gary & I have been riding past it for year, It's only 45 miles from our house. At first you could only see it when the leaves were off. Then they started clearing trees and brush. We were afraid they were going to bulldoze it But the we noticed they started doing some work on it. THANK GOODNESS!!!! It is a awesome cabin. In fact, that will be on our route to the Mo. ride. We will be eating in Kampsville at the Inn about 12:30 or 1:00 and going to Hamburg after that. There should be 8 of us, 4 bikes. Might meet up with you or pass you along the way.

The owner of the cabin, Mike Vazis, has extended an offer to literally truck us up the hill behind the cabin to an overlook with a view of the Mississippi river that extends 15 miles North, 15 miles South and with a great view Westward. The trip up the mountain along with picture taking will take about 45 minutes.
I'll need somewhat of a head count for the truck ride to the overlook.

Looking at the weather forecast for Saturday, it is supposed to be very nice. High of 77 (with sunshine) after a low of 56. That sounds like riding weather to me!!! To be fair, they are calling for rain on Friday morning but hopefully it will come and go and not linger around. The ride home on Sunday could have spotty rain with the temps in the mid to upper 60s. As of right now, there will be 24-26 folks at the ride. More is always welcome. If you are on the fence about the ride, you need to go ahead and make your plans to make this ride. I haven't been in up to the Hannibal area since I done the pre-ride a couple of months ago, but the leaves are starting to change in the St. Louis area. We should have some nice color in the Hannibal area in two weeks. If not...then we will still have a good ride and great visiting with new friends and old!! Hope to see you there!!

I'll need somewhat of a head count for the truck ride to the overlook. Last call for the Friday afternoon way point for the John Shaw Cabin and scenic overlook tour. So far we have 5 coming from the KC area. I haven't heard anything from the Illinois or Kansas riders. I'll be giving the cabin owner, Mike vazis, a head count this weekend so there is still time to join us. Also, as a reminder, a group of KC area riders Will be leaving around noon, Friday, October 10th. Another great ride is in the books. I want to thank everyone who came out and made this an awesome weekend. Monica and I had a grand time and it was a wonderful day for riding. Who would have thought it would have turned out that nice after riding up in the rain on Friday...and home in the rain on Sunday. Below are the pics I was able to snap off while riding and parked. 2014 Missouri Fall Colors RideNext year...I am thinking Northwest Missouri. Hope to see everyone there!!! Joe

Rain going up Friday-about 170 miles and rain-only about 60 miles-going home Sunday BUT Saturday was as close to a PERFECT day to ride as we could have possibly wanted and received. Plus the fact we had like ZERO problems. The B B Q jernt in Macon was good as was the Steak and Ale for supper. And I would be proud to share wind again with all that I had the pleasure of riding with. Joe-you picked some nice roads and I enjoyed the Mark twain Museum. Looking forward to next years Mo. F C R. I KNOW you will pick more good roads BUT yer gonna play 3 different kinds of hell gittin another day like we had Saturday. RIDE SAFE.
