Hello there,

I have gotten many requests from Valkyrie owners for the shifter pivot I designed for the 1500 wing. I got a good look at a bike on Saturday and see that it is something that I should be able to make. I don't know how many changes were made to the shift lever area over the model years. Anyone willing to provide a bike will get the mod for free when it is done. I don't think there a anywhere near as many Valkyries as wings so I will need some feedback as to interest. Please PM or just post in the thread.

I was wondering if this is the reason that the Valkyrie requires a firm shift, and this would help with that.

Keep us informed when/if it is done.

I am interested in the brace. Already seen your Goldwing brace (shifter wobble brace) I think you called it and wanted to investigate using it on my Valk, but haven't got to it. My 2000 IS shifts smooth, but the shifter is sloppy feeling and I have replaced the seal once. So I will buy one when available.  Firefighter

I'm very interested in a product that would take the slop out of that shifter.

Cliff,

I called you a few months ago wanting a pivot for my Valk. I'm glad you are going to modify the device for our bikes. You have designed a great device.

I was about to order one and attempt to modify it for my Valk. The attachment bolt your Goldwing version uses is present on the Valk in the same location with respect to the shifter shaft. On the Valk it is used for the rear attachment point of the crash bar to the transmission casting. A +/- 2.5 inch pipe spacer thru which the bolt passes thru is used between the crashbar and the casting. My plan was to cut out a section of the spacer and insert the pivot hanger bracket in its place.

If I'm wrong about the location of the shaft and casting bolt, you still have a good place to attach a properly designed bracket. I really think you already have 95% of the work done.

I look forward to buying one as soon as it is available.

Is this what you are talking about (more or less)?
I think all valks and all years have the same shifter.

Funny, when I read about your brace for the 1500 Wing, I was thinking too bad it's not available for the Valk. I'd definitely be interested, but I live in San Diego so don't thing I can help, with your prototype.

Cliff, I PM'd you about a month ago on goldwingdocs.com asking if it would work on the Valk. Glad you are considering it, I would be interested in getting one.

I'm not sure I'm in need of this, but I'm in south central Mass just off the start of I-84.

I got a bike you can experiment with.

I'm in too Cliff. As a matter of fact, so much so  uglystupid2 that I PayPaled your account (oops). I got excited and jumped the gun not understanding that the present shifter pivot was not for Valks yet.

I must have an exceptional Valk.  To my knowledge, the shifter seal has never been replaced with 90,032 miles on the odo.  My shaft has hardly any visible movement, nothing like the GL1500 video.  I put a dial indicator on the shift pedal itself and only have .165" of vertical play, nothing horizontally.  To me that's perfect.

Perhaps the covers on the GW are causing the problem...    2funny

Like I said in the other thread regarding the shift lever modification.

A solution looking for a problem.

I was thinking the same thing. My shifter shaft as a wee bit of play in it, by no means excessive after 67000 miles. By the looks of it a 1500 wing as a different arrangement? A Valk IMO would if anything just require a bearing and a mounting bracket to work has a carrier bearing?

I'd have to agree here. Mine has a bit of slop but nothing too bad.

I will admit it's not the easiest bike to shift but that's due to getting to the shifter if you have floorboards and wear boots (have no problem when I wear tennis shoes).
I solved this by doing some "bohemian riggin" and extending the rod (part with the rubber sleeve on it) out about an inch.

Maybe I'm not seeing the whole problem and I do need one!!

Can someone explain what this is going to fix?

Went out and took a look at Lesa's Valk, with 115K as opposed to mine with 26K and there is a definite difference. Will be interested in this as well.

I just sent Matt in Derry, NH a PM. He is local. Hook is a good 2+ hours from here. I don't want to inconvenience anyone. Sorry for the delay folks. It has been a brutal winter for me in many ways. I developed full blown sciatica that may put a damper on my riding season. I really wanted this done before Phil popped his head up through the snow.
