I think I'm going to add a new pistol to my small collection...and now that I have my CCW permit, I haven't been carrying anything since I got it...kinda hard to hide a fullsized .45Auto.....I want to keep a big caliber gun, but something easier to hide during hot weather...I'm not going to spend $1,000+ on the Kimber Pro Carry .45....

.Brian posted some pics of what he recommended a while back, but I can't find that post.....A co-worker is going to ride to a gun show in Atlanta with me next month and get him something too...

I had a .380 once.....it might have hit a barn at 20 feet??....oppps, that's wrong....it was a little .22 target pistol I bought that had an extra longer barrel with it.....you couldn't have hit the ground with it if you aimed at your foot!!....lol.....I actually had the dies to reload the .380...they may still be around here somewhere.....

Scooter and I talked to a guy at a sporting goods store a couple of weeks ago and there was ONE box of .380....he said it was the first he'd had in months...

Opinions are like... Well... You know the rest...

But my main carry gun is a Springfield Armory XD 40 SubCompact... it's tiny, it's got night sights, it's reliable as they get, it's incredibly safe without having an external safety to hafta fumble with in a high anxiety social situation, it makes .40 caliber holes, and it can make 10 of those .4 inch holes without reloading...

Oh, and it's in the $500ish range...

You supply the bowling ball, and I'll supply the 500 S&W and even take video! Smiley

I've even got some nice 700 grain hand loads for that monster (1/10th of a pound of lead going super sonic... It's a BLAST to shoot!)

...but not terribly realistic for CCW... Cheesy

I still have that old bowling ball over at my Inlaws...and no, the .50 definately isn't a ccw gun.....I have thought about shooting that ball with my .44Mag with hot loads in it....someday maybe!

Ive got a Taurus. 40cal 10+1 in the pipe. paid $350 for it. They stand behind their guns. Nice little conceald carry with plenty of knockdown. Its 5 inches high 6 inches long 1 1/4 inches wide. The Taurus Unlimited Lifetime Repair Policy™ is just that. The lifetime of the gun...not the buyer. This is the first warranty of its type in the industry. No other manufacturer has the confidence to extend this kind of offer. Except us. We know how good our guns are, and we are not afraid to stand behind them...for a lifetime.

Hey Stan, I sold my Ruger, LCP. Never did care much for mouse guns, but that is a nice one. .380 is just so hard to find.  My every day carry guns are one of these two:

S&W 642, .38 Special +P rated

Or the Kahr CW40 ......

I really like my Kel-Tec p-32. It’s not  large caliber or good at 50ft but if I have 50ft… I’m getting out of there and If close…. eight .32 cal hollow points will do some serious dammage.  It’s small and I can carry it everywhere and the best thing is…. It meets the first rule of a gun fight… having a gun.

CZ-82:  Eats 9x18 Makarov ammo, which is readily available.  (Approx $200 / 1K rds)  More punch than the .380, less than 9mm Luger ammo.  Has a 12 rd magazine.  They can be had used from about $150 -200.

(18v battery is optional.)  Cheesy

I'll second the CZ-82 too, or even a Russian Makarov... That was my CCW gun before I got the XD... Decided I wanted something with a lil more punch than the 9x18, but the CZ-82 makes a fine gun with slightly more power than a .380 in a round that's far easier to come by these days...

Taurus Pt series comes in a 45acp also--- PT145 but as for mouse guns I LOVE my Keltec P-3AT. Could always carry the Magnum research BFR 45-70gvt revolver , but the trench coat is a lil too much in the summer time! 2funny

I'll second the Keltec P3AT .380.  I put a hundred rounds through mine this morning, no hangups, no FTF, has a laser sight and it leaves no imprint when I carry it in my front pocket.  6+1 in the pipe.

Just one question from a man  who doesn't know anything about weapons:

you mean, that you can carry guns like those in the street? Or you only can have them at home, for protection?

Yes, we are talking about pistols for concealed carry (CCW). Most states require a permit, except Vermont and Alaska. Some states allow open carry, that is unconcealed, like on your belt in a holster with no permit.

Your english is fine.  You can carry concealed with a permit (license) on the street in many states.  FBI crime statistics show that the states that allow for  legal concealed carry have a lower violent crime rate than those who ban carry of firearms.  The bad guys have to wonder dont they..  Muhahahahah!

Back to the topic.  I love autos, but for deep concealment I have to admit that the revolver like the S&W 638 I mentioned and the S&W 642 that bsnicely mentioned have one advantage.  They can be fired from within a pocket if needed and will function flawlessly.  The autos (which I carry when I can 1911, 40xd, etc... ) cant do that.  They would be a one shot gun in that senario.  Just food for thought.

That's gonna be my next one. I have a 6 shot 4 in barrell now but it's a little too big
to hide. Get a smaller one and load it with 38's when the wife carries it. I'll probably
go with a Taurus or Rossi. Love the sound of a 357 when it goes BANG!! cooldude

P.S. I also like the 44 Special, but ammo is kinda hard to find.

P.P.S. I forgot to mention, my current carry is a Taurus PT111, 9mm. Feels good,
shoots good and it ain't too heavy. Also, I'm still better looking than Steamer uglystupid2

Look at the KAHR PM 40. It is small and most impotantly when you pull the trigger it works,, unlike alot of the cheap subcompacts. It will hide easily in a vest pocket or t shirt holster. If you want something a little bigger look at the Glock 27.

40 cal holes will slow the guy down alot more than a .380 and this gun is as small as most .380.

I had a KelTec .380.  I never quite trusted it in spite of a lot of ammo through it.  I went back to old standbys a .38 special Centennial airweight in a pocket holster,  and a Glock 27 with Corbon 135 gr HP's ( the equivelant of 125 gr. HP .357's) IWB.   I have a Ruger SP 101 snubbie but it's too heavy for pocket carry.

I'm left handed so every handgun except a single action is a hassle for me. Holsters are even worse.

I have the SA XD40 Compact. Not bad for CCW, but if I had it to do over again, I'd go with the above-mentioned XD40 SubCompact. I'm not a big guy, and even with an IWB holster, I tend to print a lot. Other than that, I love the piece. Oh, and ammo supply hasn't been any problem.

Wow. . . .  You folks are some serious gun nuts  Grin I guess I loose in the handgun collection department; even counting my wife's and the target guns, I only have 8.

I like most handguns these days, even the eastern european ones that have flooded the market. . . .  but my persoanl peference are 40 cal. Glocks. I won't get into the round balistics, because it still boils down to "what you like" and are familar/comfortable with. I have two Glocks I carry. A model 22 (full size; 16 rounds. Shoulder hoslter when I wear a jacket) and a model 27. The 27 is small and can easily be carried in your pocket or a ankle holster. The draw back on the 27 is it's only 10 rounds (9, with one in the pipe) and has a much smaller grip area. I have very large hands, but have never had a problem keeping it on center. Most of my buddies use a model 23 however. It's in between the 22 and 27.  Based on your video of the 50 Stanley, I'm thinking you know your way around a gun. Whatever you pick, will work, eh? (Man, I'd love to shoot one of those mini-cannons! A guy I know has a 45-70 wheel gun. He's offered, but it's never worked out. Didn't they use to kill buffalo with that round  Shocked )

Tundra,
How do you like that lazer sight on one of your semi-autos? Any issues with it? Just curious. . . . and, yeah, very nice collection. We're not too far from you in Florida (in the winter. Snow bird. Sorry.) We have a Webster address, but we're right off 301 about 17 miles north of Dade City (near St. Catherine.)

The Kahr also comes in 45 auto with six shot clip.  I personally prefer the 40 S&W in this gun or a Glock mod 23 which is rather difficult to conceal.  For the last 25 years I have carried a S&W mod 36, but it was stolen from my pickup about 10 days ago.  I always felt that the 38 sp with +P ammo should be sufficient, but I'll probably go with a 40.

+1 on the Bersa. I have the Thunder 380 Plus. 15 round clip. Carry it everywhere. Does fit in my vest pocket but is a little hard to pull. I think I got mine for $250 new, at a show from dealer that had it in his personal collection.

When in Az for the winter I carry a Taurus Featherwight .38 Spec with low-flash high-expansion bullets. Big caliber, close range offers the chance of overpenetration and  big lawsuit. Lasergrips are IT. No one-eye aiming, all large muscle memory. For desert hiking the first two rounds are snakeshot, the next three are lead semi-WC's. Open carry is a S&W 99, 9mm, again low-flash, high-expansion. I'm an American ex-pat living in the Socialist Paradise of Kanada where we are not allowed the right of self defense. In the event of home invasion or attack we have a "duty to retreat". If you are armed and break into my home and I slam you with a ball bat I may be in trouble, since kicking in my front door is not a sufficient reason to assume you mean to harm me. Firearms must be secured, IF you allowed to own one, and locked in one place, ammo also secured and locked in another. There is no 4th Amendment so police can "inspect" your home at any time. I could go on, but you get the picture........ Is it November yet?

Joe - On the price of the Kahr, it is my backup gun so when or if needed it must work beyond all else. That confidence is worth a little OT at work to pay for it. I have gone the Kel-tec (paperweight, never would shoot a full mag) route and decided to spend the extra $.
