Now, this beer is super clean tasting! Can’t go wrong with the scotch either!

I have never, in the history of ever, had to tell a bartender that's enough, stop pouring.

After my flight was delayed, possibly rerouted, maybe canceled, they didn't know yet I decided to order a Jameson to take the edge off before waiting with a hyper 10 year old in the terminal yesterday...

Jameson, with two ice cubes please.

$9... at an airport bar!

This was NOT a tiny shot glass cup, but at least a 12 ounce cup, and this is at the point I had to tell him to stop pouring please, I needed to be able to make sure I could handle getting myself and the spawn on the right plane...

Yes, his tip was very good...

Maybe at 9 bucks a pop, the bartender felt guilty and over pours.

Or maybe his pay is low, and he can get away with over pouring to get better tips.

I was a bartender for awhile.  99% of my bidness was beer.

If a mixed drink was ordered (beyond the ordinary), I snuck in back and looked it up in the book.

If it was some exotic crap requiring 4 or more ingredients, I told them we didn't serve those.   Grin

For instance a slow gin fizz, was regular gin, poured slowly... with fizz.

I'm guessing you haven't ordered a drink at an airport bar lately... I was honestly expecting double that price...  Lips Sealed

I would normally think that, but the spawn was saving our seats out of view of the bartender. I did open with "I wasn't planning on getting a drink, but after they just announced my flight is delayed, maybe canceled, I need one now please", maybe that helped...

I'll post the full story later, and it's quite a story, but the spawn boarding her first ever flight is kinda cute... Being her first ever, we sprung for 1st class, cute kid moment: "Daddy... Why isn't that nice man offering drinks or snacks to the people behind us?"

Dang I hate Costco!!

You could always immigrate to Texas! I love 99% of the things about The Republic of Texas but.... Liquor sales are banned on Sundays, AND ONLY stand alone dedicated liquor stores can sell liquor. No liquor in Wal Mart, CostCo, Sam's, etc...

Kinda the same here but the big box stores get around that by building a completely separate store outside the main store so you have to go to the other side of the parking lot kinda thing …… even on a Sunday.  cooldude

I always have a problem spending extra bucks on bourbon but I seem to be doing it lately out of boredom I think. To me, unlike scotch, bourbon is bourbon although some definitely are tastier but still taste like bourbon if that makes any sense.
The Yellowstone at 46.5% tastes more like a 40% due to a lighter bourbon taste IMO. It’s an excellent sipper for sure straight up. I had a couple last night while watching the hockey game and quite enjoyed it. Next time, I’ll add a bit of water to see how it opens up. At $50 Canadian I’d buy it again but, as bourbon goes, for less money, Makers, Buffalo Trace and Old Forester are bottles you’ll never go wrong buying.

Agreed. I was pleasantly surprised, really enjoy it straight up.
I wouldn't buy it again for the same reasons. Plenty of good inexpensive bourbons to choose from. It would be my go-to if it was half the price. Grin

My go to Bourbon is always Woodford Reserve, with Makers mark as a back up.  I'm as picky about my bourbon as I am my scotch.  That being said, I find the Member's Mark spiced rum from Sam's Club to be almost as good as Captain Morgan and much cheaper. Mixed with a bit of Sprite it tastes a lot like cream soda, only with a kick.

Okay…. I bit! $78 Canadian and never seems to go on sale.
Very dry and woody. Can easily go to Bourbon from here but I think you have a hard time doing the reverse.

Best Brown Ale I have tried and I have tried many and made a few myself. Dukes brown ale is named for the Brewery dog when the brewery first opened. It is brewed in Jax. Fl. at Bold City Brewery.

I think I met those guys while driving to eastern Turkey along the Black Sea once (in Trabzon).   Grin

I wanted to get farther east to the the Russian boarder of Georgia, but the regional Jandarma (army) said that was prohibited (and they all carried machine guns, so I believed them).

I've found myself dipping too deeply and too frequently into the hard stuff, so tapering off with depleting some of my older wine stock lately instead...

Tonight a lovely 2015 Shiraz from South Africa is wetting my whistle.... LOTS of berries, red fruit, jam...

Some "tax free" local moonshine.

Tastes like Werthers caramel. Very dangerous as the caramel flavor disguises the 90 proof content.

Just a short glass is plenty. Detn8er seemed to like the taste  Cheesy

First stationed in AL at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, I had the pleasure of serving with two retired enlisted men (as civilians): an E9 Chief and an E7 MSgt, who ran a very successful claims division, and they taught me the business.

So I asked the MSgt if there was any local shine to be had, and he said there was (if I could keep my mouth shut, which I could).  He lived a fair piece away in Selma, but kept a small trailer right outside the back gate during the work week.  Upon my arrival, he produced a jug of clear shine, and said he liked it with Mountain Dew, so I had mine that way too.  Three or four libations later, I was entirely sh!tfaced.  That stuff sneaks up on you.

He said:  Lieutenant, you cannot risk the gate tonight (I lived on base), so sleep on my couch.

I said:  Something unintelligible...... but in agreement.

Good times.    Grin

Feeling like a little Irish tonight.  My wife got me a glencairn with our clan crest on it so now I don't have to drink my whisky in an uncivilized manner (although the old jelly jar was growing on me).

What, did everybody quit drinking?

I have some potentially devastating news.  Serk, you may want to take a deep breath before reading.
There is a shortage of peated barley on Islay.  Its to the point where Diageo is limiting orders from Port Charlotte to non Diageo distilleries.
We can only hope this is a temporary development.

In all seriousness, I severely curtailed my consumption; it had gotten out of hand. So I'm still here, but far less than I had been...

I'd read about the peated barley shortage, there's been threats of that here and there over the years, hopefully this time turns out to be nothing too, but we'll see...

I took a jar of Bluberry "revenue free" moonshine to the FCR this weekend.

I didn't hear any bad words about it and some came back for more.

Friday night I also tried this.

https://www.sugarlands.com/products/blueberry-muffin-moonshine/

It might be good for cleaning road tar off an engine and that's all I've got to say about that.

Flask had some apple pie shine. Pretty good.

Blueberry and apple pie.

Then Saturday I tried their

https://www.sugarlands.com/products/maple-bacon-moonshine/

So much better. It's hard to believe the same distillery produces both.

Another tasting was the

https://olesmoky.com/products/mango-habanero-flavored-whiskey

Had some heat if you like that kinda thing.

Well, with all that tasting going on I didn't even get to open my bottle of Jose Gold.

Home and lots of H2O being glugged.

Texas does most things right.

Texas does ALMOST every thing right.....

ONE thing Texas has WRONG..... Costco can't sell liquor, so we can't get the Kirkland Scotch.....

Gives me a sad.....

So anyway.... Tonight, I'm having a Usquebach 15..... Very lovely blended malt Scotch, if you ever try it, take a sip with a bite of dark chocolate, the two together are.... *Chef Kiss* WONDERFUL!

Great day today as we went over the Highwood Pass today! Snowing like crazy up there and the mountains are spectacular. Fabulous ride in the summer. So decided to finish the day with a little smash of bourbon.

Jury’s out on this one. At least on the first couple sips. Wine barrel finish. Could account for the dry finish. It’s definitely different which is a good thing.

Glad this one was a gift as I tend to agree with you! Kinda nice though to have a little variety.

Now on the other hand, this is mighty tasty! For me, I think I’d take it over Michters which I like a lot. Considering the price for each, this is a definite winner IMO.
