This thread was the start of this discussion but did not offer the definitive answer.

In removing the IS tips I did encounter rusted threads on the side stand side. So loosen carefully and use "liquid wrench" to assist in getting them out. IS had 30,000 miles and tips had never been removed.
You must either bend the "piggies" to fit though the triple tips or shorten them.
The minimum cut is approx 3.5 inches, I elected to cut 5 inches so no "piggie" would be partially blocked by a triple tip edge. Your bike you decide.
Yes as reported only 2 retaining bolts will line up and they are enough, or you can drill the third by using the IS tip as a pattern.
When installing the triple tips they did touch the saddlebag heat shield. The interference was with the inside rear beads and drains (2 on each side). I elected to remove about 1 inch on each of the rear 2 inside beads.
That gave me about 3/16 inch clearance from the bags to the exhaust. I positioned the heat shield by gently bending the rear so that I had nothing touching. The heat shield is about 1/8+ from the exhaust and the saddle bag is 1/16+ from the heat shield.
To me 1/16 is to close so I used some heat insulation tape between the heat shield and saddlebag to protect the paint and so far no blisters or scorched paint. Painted black the heat tape is not seen and also blocks the 2 enlarged drain holes from the bead removal.
If you cut the "piggies" 3.5 to 5 inches expect a slight increase in sound. The sound increase is caused because now you are dumping the exhaust into a echo chamber (the triple tips).
I do not find the slight increase in sound to be problem. If you want to listen to one before doing this simply find a standard with triple tips and listen to it. The sound is almost exactly the same.
The sound is a very low constant tone. And from a few feet away insignificant.
