1999 interstate, I need help to figure this out. Gas odor while riding up steep grade fixed throttle position, also when I slow down and under med acceleration. Did try and use wd 40 on the gas cap gasket, not much help, will try and add thin gasket under old cap gasket. any other suggestions appreciated. thanks

I had a gas odor and discovered it was a leaking shut off valve. Replaced shut off valve and problem solved. I seriously doubt that you going up or down a hill has any relevance. Just my two cents worth.

The Intake runner O-rings had to be replaced on my tourer when I smelt gas while riding.

My gas leak smell was leaking fuel rail on the carbs. Check that out too.

Check all your carb boots clamps, I noticed the same thing when I first got the I/S. Every boot clap was loose.
