Mine is mounted upfront on the engine guard on the right side. On my VTX I mounted it underneath by the swing arm. Is there any other place you guys have mounted your compact air horn?

Big BF has a quad kit you mount horns underneath.

I had one under the swing arm on my Interstate.  A plate of steel to mount it to, then the plate with horn attached, mounted under the swing arm with long radiator clamps (no interference with my wood jack adapter).  Well, two actually, they kept eating dirt and water and died.  I went back to a car horn.  I only use horns to pass inspections.

If you don't have the engine hanger covers/(tranny covers?), many have mounted it under the petcock.

On an Interstate you can mount it inside one of the radiator pods.

I mounted one just behind the ignition switch.

Had my Wolo here first

Then I decided to mount it in the pod facing forward Simple aluminum bracket using one of the rad bolts to mount. Looks like this with the pod on.

Good luck!

I  am having problems getting my air horn to work with the key on. It works great when the key is off, but as soon as the key is on - no deal. I have spliced into the horn wire inside the front faring by the handlebar, but am confident that I did something wrong.

thoughts?

Then take it all apart and do it right.  Hook the relay up just like the instructions say to.

Make sure you use a relay to the battery to power the horn using the OEM horn wire to turn on the relay. or the horn sound will be weaker.

I'm confused, not my first time either.

How is it that the horn even works with the key OFF?

As for not working when the key is on, try starting the bike. Sounds like there isn't enough power in your battery to run the lights and the horn at the same time. You need the alternator running to supply more power.

Like Chris mentioned, replace back to stock.

This time, unplug the OEM horn wire from the horn, and use that to trigger the new horn relay. Power goes from the battery-relay-horn. The horn wire works as the trigger for the relay, allowing the power to pass through.

Now, it sounds like you have the relay wired wrong, since there should be no trigger when the key is off.

I found this link to a relay and how to wire.

From the limited information provided, I would guess that there is an always hot wire hooked to one side of the horn or relay and the horn switch is providing a ground when the bike is off. With the bike on, there is 12v at the horn wire. As Kevin states, he is confident it is wired wrong. I could also be wrong.

I had a Wolo on the front of my Tourer attached to the right side engine crash bar.  I didn't like not being to get behind it to clean, and the way it cluttered up the front, so I purchased the Big BF Quad.  Let me tell you they are LOUD--they even give me a start when I hit the button.  Only had them on for a couple of months, but so far no problems--and they are under the bike and out of view.

I mounted my dual trumpet air horns under the headlight of my tourer. Out front where needed. Fabbed the bracket and mounted the compresser in the right windshield bracket.
