Hi all,

I had my Valk dyno'd last weekend. Its totally stock with 59,000kms on it.

At the back wheel she delivers:

85.4 HP at approx 6,000rpm
94.1 Nm of torque at 5,100rpm

The air/fuel mixture is a bit lean between 3,000 and 4,300 rpm though, getting above 14 in that range.

How does this compare to other bikes? Any ideas or tips on the lean mixture?

I have heard the Valk is supposed to be a 100+Hp and 100+foot pounds bike. Seems mine isn't in that ballpark, but is that magical 100 number at the wheel or crank?

Thanks,

Mark

with those low numbers u have, u most likely have the R2 emissions cams, and/or the dyno operator caused the low numbers, the dyno is old worn out, etc., there can be many variables.
the '97 tested 100/101 at the wheel and had to have the non-emissions R1 camshaft.
All '98s have the R2 cams, I have even found some 49state '97 bikes which should have the R1 cam but actually had the R2.  found one bike that had an R1 and R2 cam from the factory. All calif bikes have the R2 cam.

Don't get stuck on those figures. There will be variations with Dyno's.
I pulled similar with a 98 but on the same day/same dyno a Blackbird made 130.(quoted as 170)
I only use a dyno for reference when tuning or if comparing to another bike and they are run on the same dyno and same day.
Unless you are into drag racing or the lean spot is causing you problems I would not worry about it too much, will help with mileage cruising over 3000 rpm

I haven't dyno'ed a Valkyrie.  But, I had a 1998 standard a few years ago.  It was strong but, I'm certain that my current 1999 Interstate is faster.  My theory is that the first Valkyrie, which I bought with the Cobra 6x6 exhaust never got the carbs rejetted.  My current bike was clearly cared for and, although it has big pipes it feels and is bloody fast.  It's going to get me into much trouble I'm afraid.

Agreed. A good friend of mine has a nice running road glide that I witnessed pull 110 h.p. on the dyno. He was confident he would finally out run me on my valk. Nope. I didn't whip him but a slow steady pull in any gear. I'm pretty sure I'm not making over 110 hp on mine.

About 7 years ago I went to a HD 'bike night' on my V65 sabre... only Honda there and got a lot of crap over it... well, they had a dyno trailer set up... everyone wanted to see what that "JAP" bike would pull... It got late and the crowd started to leave so the operator told me to bring my Sabre up.... It pulled 132 RWHP.... Stock from the factory, it was 121 HP @ the crank... and I had done a dyno pull at a SABMAG BBQ northeast of Dallas back in 05 where it pulled 98.9 WRHP with a worn clutch.... I told the dyno guy that his rig was hugged up... that's when he told me that he had a 27% fudge factor programed into the computer that ran his dyno... Also... NO ONE got 'pull sheet' that night... So... FYI....... cooldude
